The A‐level course serves as a broad introduc on to Psychology as an academic and medical science, with more than a passing nod to its roots in philosophy. Six key approaches (perspec ves) are covered – psychodynamic, behavioural, cogni ve, evolu onary, social and biological – and applied in a range of prac cal, ‘real life’ applica ons, from memory to conformity to rela onships to gender to mental illness. There is also a strong emphasis on the empirical methods psychologists use in research. Three, equally‐weighted exam papers:

Paper 1: Introductory Topics in Psychology Paper 2: Psychology in Context Paper 3: Issues and Op ons in Psychology

There is no assessed coursework.

Students may have the op on of taking AS Psychology at the end of the two year course as an alterna ve to the full A‐level. Why Psychology?

How does it work?

Subjects such as English and philosophy are similar subjects in their approach and skills set in terms of the essay based Lecture style note making, nature of the course.
