Grove Awards
Three more students have been presented with their Grove Awards:
Edward Burdett, Samuel Peterson and Benjamin Tariq, all from Year 7, two of whom are pictured here receiving their awards from the Headmaster. Their challenges ranged from learning to play the guitar and attending a cycling club to playing chess and writing a novel.
Autopsy Lesson
Year 8 have been learning all about lungs in an mock autopsy lesson with Dr Ingham. They had to figure out how the patient had died, as well as getting to see a cows lungs being inflated.

Year 7 stem club students tested the bath bombs they made this week. This is part of the CREST award that the stem club are working towards. They were investigating the effect of the temperature of water on their bath bomb fizz.
were working as police detectives to uncover the details of the crime committed in Robert Browning's poem, 'Porphyria's Lover'. After creating a police investigation board to answer initial questions about the crime, they braved the elements and ventured outside to create a photo storyboard to explore the narrative plot of the poem.
Netball
At the end of January our U16 and U19s qualified for England National Finals following an incredibly intense day at Sheffield EIS. We are so proud of all our girls and coaches - you are amazing! Our U19s and U16s are now ranked in the top 16 schools in the country and they head to National Finals on 11th March.
Boarding Adventures
On Monday, 26 of our boarders went to Clip and Climb in Leeds and took on a number of fun and challenging climbs. Well done to James Alcock, Y10, who won the 'beat the teacher challenge' up the speed wall with a time of 9.45 seconds!
Congratulations to Year 11 pupil Jess Strudwick, who has been selected to represent Wales at the U17 Netball European Championship and Challenge later this month in Ireland.
It’s been a busy couple of days for some of our Y8 netballers. On Monday, 3 teams went to the Leeds Schools Tournament. Over 30+ girls represented the school in this tournament. The U13a team finished winners of the day, going unbeaten and facing GSAL in the final. The U13a also travelled to Newcastle this week for the 5th round of the Sisters’n in Sport cup. A closely contented game against Yarm, winning 35-33! Our U19s also progresses to the 5th round with a win over Newcastle High School.
Cross Country Training
The last training session of the half term took place on Thursday, including a brutal hill, a historic folly and a spot of running in between. Next fixtures are: the English Schools finals, National XC, a home League fixture, and a few ParkRun visits.
Good luck to Matthew Robbins, Y11, who has qualified and will be competing at the Yorkshire Swimming Championships over the course of 3 weekends in February. He is competing in the 17 and over age group category, in both individual events and as part of the City of Leeds relay team.
Ski Trip
This morning our ski trippers set off to Andorra, we hope they have a fab time away and enjoy the slopes!
Fencing Success
It was a successful day for our fencers at the Northern Youth Challenge in Wetherby last week. It was the debut tournament for a number of our Year 7s, and medals were won by our Year 10s who are growing in confidence and ability. Well

Visiting Chapel
Early in February, the Chaplain and Mrs Crawford, welcomed a group of pupils from Holybrook Academy to Chapel. They spent time doing a quiz about what is inside the Chapel building, looking at church colours, dressing up, hearing about our chapel services and assemblies. Any Grove parents with children in other primary schools are welcome to speak with Rev Drost about class
Last week, Year 12 Language students were different transcripts to explore new data. Linguistics is the science of language and a lot of A-level English Language is analysis and investigation.

Grade 5 Guitar Successes
Well done to Aaron Ahmed, Y8, who achieved his Acoustic guitar grade 5 with merit last December and Thomas Howcroft, Y8, who passed his grade 5 electric guitar exam this week.
Akroyd Foundation Scholarship
Several of our students sat a scholarship exam in December and we are delighted to hear that Chloe Cater, Y13, has been shortlisted for the next stage. She is one of 8 students across Yorkshire who have been invited to York in March for interview. The examiner reports that he was impressed by the strength of her essay on whether political correctness and their analogues is a sign of society's lack of confidence in itself. We wish Chloe all the best when the time comes.
