Sheffield University Talk
On Tuesday, we welcomed Ms Messenger from the University of Sheffield. She presented to a group of Years 11 to 13 about alternative degree and career options in healthcare. It was interesting to learn about the broad range of research, patient facing and engineering pathways
National Netball Finalists! ☺
Congratulations to our amazing first VII (and staff) who after a great win today are through to the final of the National Netball Cup. It was a truly incredible semi-final against Brentwood School, where they gave absolutely everything and went on to win 36-40 - an epic performance by an exceptional team of athletes.
Recent Fundraising
"The Battle of the Bands" event last half term raised £635.73 for ZARACH, a Leeds based charity supplying beds to families in need. Thank you all for your support. Please see the poster later in this issue about our next charity event, our Easter Concert.

Individual Successes
Congratulations to Vincent, Year 12 who travelled to Pennsylvania as part of a team who presented their published research at the Biophysical Society Convention. During the Summer, Vincent worked on a project that looked at stem cell development to help with cardiac research.
Congratulations to Austin, Year 8 who has once again qualified for the English Tumbling Championships in June in Telford. We wish him all the best with training.
UKMT Maths Challenge
Y7 Maths Roadshow Winners
In last week’s Year 7 group assembly, George, Gus, Duncan, and Sam were awarded prizes for being the two winning
89 students from Years 9, 10 and 11 entered the UKMT Intermediate maths challenge last half term and we now have the results. 20 students were awarded a bronze certificate, 18 students were awarded silver with Will O'T and Connie D being awarded the best scores in Y10. There were five gold recipients; Adam K (best in Y9), Zac N (best in school and Y11), Will H, Liam M and Shreya N.
Adam and Jacob G have been invited through to the next round, the grey kangaroo and Will, Zac, and Liam have been invited to compete in the pink kangaroo, the follow-on round. Congratulations to all who participated and especially our certificate winners.

Inspired A-level Drama
Y13 students, Finlay and Grayson, performed their Paper Birds inspired devised piece 'Time' in the Drama Studio last week for their Component 2 A-level Drama exam. The piece raised questions about how we use our time and explored different beliefs about the afterlife. Their scripted piece 'The Dumb Waiter' by Harold Pinter, captured the tension of two hit-men, waiting for their next job. The reviews from audiences members were fantastic.
Understanding Asylum
Last week, we engaged with the School of Sanctuary initiative which aims to provide a welcoming environment for individuals seeking sanctuary.
Rose McCarthy from Horsforth Town of Sanctuary and Horsforth Chaplaincy Project, along with asylum seekers Noori from Afghanistan, Nelson from Cameroon, and Mohammed from Yemen, shared their experiences with the students. This initiative will help students in Years 12 and 13 gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by asylum seekers and our aim is to foster a more inclusive and
Online Safety:What is Palworld?
Palworld is a new game similar to Pokemon and Digimon with a PEGI rating of 12 for fantasy-character-style violence. Given its similarity to Pokemon there's every likelihood that younger children will be playing this game and so Internet Matters have compiled some advice and guidance for parents about the game: what it is, how it works, safety settings etc. You can find the article HERE.
Cross Country Events
Tomorrow, the Grove will be hosting the fifth Leeds Schools Athletics Association race of the 2023/24 season. The course opens at 12:30, first race is 13:00 for U9s and U11s; secondary school runners to arrive at 13:30. It would be great to have lots of athletes taking part and representing the school. Also on the radar is House Cross-countryafter school on Tuesday 16 April for Years 7 to 10 and in games on Wednesday 17 April for Seniors. Please see your Head of House if you are interested in taking part.
Police Education Programme
Last week we welcomed Sergeant Regan from the West Yorkshire Police Education programme to observe our Head of PSHCE, Mrs Vernon delivering the resources they have provided for our students. Our work with the police is very beneficial in encouraging a positive, inclusive and lawful society.
Empathy Week
During Empathy Week, our junior librarians, Amaya and Darcy were busy creating our library display, finding links with our Grovian values of 'Kind and Generous' whilst also supporting our application as a School of Sanctuary.
Cricket Success
Huge congratulations to our U13 boys & girls teams who were both crowned West Yorkshire Indoor Champions.
Grove with
Krakow for her final international cadet
best ever international result, as well as being the highest ranking British competitor. Kira finishes her time as a cadet ranked 8th in Great Britain before she moves up to the U20 category. This weekend, Kira was also the highest placed U18 female at the Merseyside Open.
Rugby Update
A great day of learning and development for our U14 sevens squad at Sedbergh School sevens competition last weekend, winning 2 of their 5 matches. The coaches are really proud of their progress and looking forward
The 1st VII won a tournament at Ripon GS
Well done to Callum, Alfie, Tom and Archie who all played key roles in the U18 Yorkshire Academy team this season. The league culminated in a finals day at Gloucester Rugby Club, with three of the four scoring tries in their win against Harlequins.

A lot of brain power has been used by Years 11 to 13 in this week’s Senior House chess competition. The tournament took place every lunchtime over five days. Each house fielded two players and every house played each other. Overall winners were Vinter
