There have been many amazing trips this past term at Brontë House. If you would like to see any photos of these, they can be found on our Flickr or click here.
Ashdown Lodge have been busy...
Last week we enjoyed a fantastic afternoon at Ashdown Lodge Sports Day. We managed to dodge the rain and enjoyed a super event for our 2-5 year olds. Thank you to all the parents who came to support!
Reception have been thinking about summer fruits and did fruit tasting. They tasted a variety of fruits including strawberries, nectarines and apricots. At the end they voted for their favourite with strawberries being the top pick.
Just before half term, our brave and intrepid Reception children took on the challenges of Herd Farm to enjoy a day of outdoor pursuits and team games.
Year 1 enjoyed a lovely day at Harlow Carr, where they took part in a workshop linked to their current science topic of Plants. The children learnt about the basic structure of plants; then carefully measured each one. They even planted peas which will, hopefully, flourish in the Harlow Carr garden!
Year 1 have been busy designing and making London vehicles. Boxes were painted, axles carefully measured and wheels attached before adding the final details. Then the children evaluated their finished models thinking of ways they could be improved. Overall they were very pleased with their models.
Our talented team of Brontë Knitwits have been busy making some colourful tulips in recent weeks - with excellent results!
Year 2 have been enjoying using 2Paint a Picture on Purple Mash in their ICT lesson to recreate a painting by the impressionist artist Monet. They were then able to create their own impressionist style pictures.
Year 2 were imagining what it would be like to experience a storm at sea in English this week. They pooled their ideas writing descriptive phrases based on each of their sentences. Their ideas brought the storm to life and helped them to imagine the storm in our book Grandad's Secret Giant.
Year 3 arrived at Robinwood and launched into their activities enthusiastically. They enjoyed canoeing, raft building, trapeze, night line, the giant swing, knights quest and the long anticipated pirhana pool, among lots of other thrilling activities. They all pushed each other to achieve things they did not think possible; their communication skills and teamwork were honed and banked for use in future tasks.
Year 3 and 4 had a fantastic afternoon at The Maths Roadshow last week. They loved taking part in the different maths challenges and enjoyed working through the various puzzles with the Year 10 mathematicians. Thank you to the Maths Team at WGS for a fun afternoon!
Year 4 had a jam-packed lesson in the science lab. They investigated the affect that different of drinks had on your teeth with some shocking results! They also studied the differences between our own teeth and that of a horse. Thank you to The Farrow family for supplying the resources. They rounded off the afternoon with a fun teeth-themed quiz!
Recently we saw our Year 5 boys playing a friendly cricket match against our Year 6 girls, with lots of learning and a huge amount of fun. All overseen by Mr Randhawa, our Head of Cricket, who was delighted to see first hand the progress the younger children are making. Well done to you all, what a fantastic afternoon!
Year 6 completed their 'Evolution and Inheritance' topic this week with an activity called 'Beaks and Birds'. This was based on Charles Darwin's theory of Natural Selection and his studies on Finch species, which he found on the Galapagos Islands.
Recently, we have had 22 new computers installed in our IT suite. This week, Year 6 children have enjoyed using them to practise their programming skills. They have explored turning a micro:bit into a functioning compass.
Recently in Taskmaster club the children battled for who could create the best theme tune music for the club. They all did a fantastic job and we were very impressed!
