DT skills from Year 5

Year 5 have been busy in the Grove's DT department again - this time, making personalized pencil boxes. The children loved showcasing their design skills in CAD to create lids for their boxes. There was also much excitement when they got to visit the workshop and wield some tools during the construction process.

Nurseryhavebeenona triptoHeskethFarm this week! Pupils enjoyed a tractor ride, looked after the guinea pigs, milked the calves, saw pigs and piglets and walked around the paddock.

This week in Reception, pupils have been learning a new song in music called 'I'm a miracle' which is all about growing.

Some of the children in have been taking their sports day training very seriously by making their own obstacle course in the playground at lunchtime.

Year 1 have been busy tracking the growth of the nasturtium plants they planted at Harlow Carr. Some plants have not been too successful so we also have some tomato plants growing in the classroom! We have recorded the number of leaves that have grown and measured their height in cm every week.

Year 2 were introduced to their new book, Grandad's Secret Giant. They listened to a short description and then worked in groups to draw their own giants.

This week in ICT Year 2 were creating impressionist paintings using the ‘2paint A Picture’ program. They were very effective.

Year 2 have been learning about food chains in their science lessons. They created some food chains on the carpet using cards before making their own concertina book food chains. They had to start with a producer a green plant and then add consumers into their food chain.

Inspired by their studies of the Normandy Conquest of England, Year 3 have been creating their own version of the Bayeux Tapestry in their art lessons.

Year 4 have been having fun revising spelling, punctuation and grammar rules ready for theirendofyearassessments.

Year 5 Calverley Hall Visit

Year 5 have been revisiting the Tudor era this week and undertook a range of practical workshops delivered by the Landmark Trust at Calverley Old Hall The children used primary and secondary sources of historical evidence to answer questions about the previous occupants of the hall. They re-created pieces of wall art, which had been discovered during the site's restoration, on miniature canvases, and constructed walls using wattle and daub. A fantastic time was
