Pre Nursery enjoyed lots of fun activities to enhance their learning after their recent Autumnal walk. They painted with the conkers and looked at the different marks they were making; they used the apples to make bright patterns and carefully chopped them to build on hand eye coordination. They also made an Autumn themed sensory tray with a collection of things they found, and enjoyed feeling the different textures.
Reception were very lucky to have some visitors from Slovenia in class this week. These students specialise in Early Years’ Education and were gaining work experience in Ashdown. Pupils looked on a map to find out where Slovenia was and our visitors told them about their country. They taught the children how to say 'hello' and 'goodbye' in Slovenian and helped to make
have been practicing their balancing skills in PE and also using the outdoor climbing frame.
Ashdown have also had visitors from Year 6 who have been helping our youngest Ashdowners in Pre Nursery with their PE lessons: improving fundamental movement skills and matching beanbags and hoops together by colour.
Reception have been enjoying looking at books together in lots of different places. They shared information about their books and talked about which parts were their favourite and why. They have also been on Autumn walks collecting various items for the classroom.
Year 1 and Year 2 have been enjoying some gymnastics this week in Body and Balance. Some vely balancing poses, well done everyone!
The children’s coordination, creativity and patience were put to the test in this week’s STEM club challenge. The children were introduced to the effects of a chain reaction when one event sets off a chain of similar events. They used dominoes to form a shape and enjoyed watching them fall down, even if some were by accident!
Year 1 have been learning about animals in their science lessons this half term. This week they learnt about the diets of different animals and worked together to sort animals into groups of carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. The children enjoyed putting themselves into one of these
There has been a lot of food in Year 2 this week! Pupils have been peeling, cutting and grating to create salads in their DT lesson, learning how to use the tools safely. They tasted and evaluated root vegetable salads including, coleslaw, potato and beetroot salads with very mixed reactions!
In their pathways reading lessons, Year 2 are thoroughly enjoying Julia Donaldson’s The Troll and are finding lots of synonyms.
For Year 1’s topic on portraits they created some facial artwork. They drew around a template onto felt, then cut out a face shape. Using a running stitch, they joined the felt face to a hessian background and then attached collage materials for the facial features.
Year2 joined in an interactive live lesson organised by the National Farming Union. They learned about the different parts of a plant and met Farmer Hannah to learn about cereal harvesting.
Year 3 are really enjoying PSHE lessons with their Jigsaw friend Jino. They have written a Jigsaw charter together for PSHE lessons and agreed some goals for the year ahead. They all like the 'calm me' section of the lesson where they spend a

Year 4 have been learning about the importance of taking good care of their teeth and gums. A willing volunteer demonstrated why it is important to use toothpaste to clean our teeth. The plaque disclosing tablet generated an interesting discussion about how and when is the right time to brush your teeth. The children completed a Kahoot quiz on the IPADs which challenged their scientific knowledge about teeth. It was noisy but fun!
Year 5 enjoyed a day out to Flamingo Land to deepen their understanding about animals of the rainforests. They met some of the creatures and learnt about their habitats, adaptations, and how zoos help with conservation.
In recent Year 6 art lessons, the children used water colours to re-create artwork in the style of World War I artist Paul Nash with some very impressive results!
Our Taskmaster Club teams were challenged to create the best bridge for Eeyore using resources they found in the classroom. There were some fantastic ideas coupled with excellent teamwork. Bridges were fashioned out of rulers, keyboards, books and glue sticks amongst otheritems!
