Year 1 spent the day at Harewood House last Friday exploring the Bird Garden and running through the willow maze in the Winter Wonderland. They particularly enjoyed watching the penguins swimming and jumping around.

Pre Nursery are enjoying their theme of animals at the moment and are looking at the Dear Zoo story making their own messy Dear Zoo tray. They also went on their very own bear hunt around the garden, taking it in turns to find the different hiding bears.
Pyjama Party Fun
Thank you to the ABA for organising some fantastic Pyjama parties last week.
Pre-Nursery also enjoyed a lovely sing and sign session last week in their PJs for their pyjama day.
Year1paintedsomefantasticpicturesof Nibbles this week! He is the naughty monster from the class book, 'Nibbles The Book Monster', who likes to nibble all the books he finds. Lovely work Year 1.
Year 2 have been on a materials walk around school to spot different objects and what they are made of as part of their science lesson.
Knitwits Knitting Club are very busy at the moment knitting some Christmas decorations; Christmas puddings and little Santa hats, that contain a treat!
Art Lessons
In Year 3 Art, the children are designing and painting their own Egyptian headdresses inspired by the work of contemporary Egyptian artist Alaa Awad. Next week, they will add further detail by writing their names in hieroglyphics.
As you can see from their faces, Year 4 were slightly surprised when a slinky was used to demonstrate how sound travels!
Year 6 completed their Classifying Critters topic this week with an investigation to find out the optimum conditions for yeast to reproduce. This required them to draw upon their knowledge of fungi from the Linnaean Classification System.
Year 5 are also busy in Art, piecing together their Rousseau inspired jungle scenes. They have worked with a range of different media and practised new skills, including acrylic dip-technique, to create pieces for their final collage. The final flourish of 3D paper flower sculptures should make them look AMAZING!
Congratulations to Rebecca Chapman, Year 6, who represented her riding club at the STARS Champion of Champions event at Aintree Racecourse. Rebecca came 2nd out of 53 competitors in the ‘Young Handler Finals’ with Connor, her beautiful Dartmoor pony companion.
