In English, Year 1 were introduced to a naughty little book monster called Nibbles who likes to eat his way through different fairytales. They created a wanted poster to help to catch Nibbles. This inspired the children to create their own monster designs as part of their challenges.
In their topic lessons Year 2 have been starting to learn about The Gunpowder Plot, King James 1 and the role Guy Fawkes played in the plot. They took part in a role play activity thinking about what the different characters might say.
Year 2 were also given the challenge of working out the title of our new English reading text. They were given jigsaw pieces and talked about what they could see on each piece before working out how they fitted together to create the front cover. Above & Below is a beautifully illustrated picture book which explores eight different habitats above and below the surface, with facts about different animals and plants.
This week in Greetings Card Club, pupils used quilling to produce beautiful Christmas cards. They will be learning different methods each week to create cards. These skills can then be adapted to produce a range of cards for different purposes.
Year 3 have been continuing to learn more about Ancient Egypt in their humanities lessons. Imogen in 3B brought in some canopic jars to show everyone and they will soon be learning what they were used for when we start looking at mummification. As part of this topic, Year 3 spent the day at Leeds Museum learning more about Ancient Egypt. They took part in a mummification workshop and also had the chance to see the real life mummy, Nesyamun.
The ability to make accurate measurements is an essential skill. In mathematics, Year 5 have been combining this skill, along with their creativity to produce a picture containing a variety of lines of different lengths. The children were then tasked with assessing their peers' work. They were very strict markers deciding each line had to be within 1mm of accuracy!
This week has been a busy week in the science lab for Year 6. They carried out an investigation to find out which conditions mould grows best in. They put their knowledge of microorganisms and fungi to the test. Following some work on plastic pollution the previous half term, Year 3 decided to recycle one of their old t shirts and made themselves a trendy shopping bag.
