Red Nose Day
Brontë was awash with red today as children came in wearing something red in support of Red Nose Day. They were treated to some delicious red nose day buns. Thanks to everyone for supporting this event.
What’s The Crime Mr Wolf
Our Year 3 and Year 4 pupils were outstanding in their two shows of ‘What’s The Time Mr Wolf’. Despite a delayed start due to the weather, the children performed to a packed theatre both nights. The story was intriguing with both sides putting their case forward and Mr Wolf in the middle of it all. Congratulations to both staff and pupils on another fabulous show.
Science Week— Planetarium
What an amazing experience this week when pupils had the opportunity to visit the Aurora Planetarium.
Younger children learnt all about the solar system and the space race, with a brief stop over in the land of the dinosaurs!
The planetarium was a truly unique experience for our children! Who knows, perhaps we have a future Tim Peake or Helen Sharman in our midst! Other science work this week included;
Reception looking at connections between animals and their habitats. They also looked at the features of some animals to see why they might have big eyes, ears or long noses.
Key Stage Two children took a tour of the solar system and learnt how the earth orbits the sun.
It was a very busy week in Year 4 who considered the importance of protecting the connections in a food web which keep habitats healthy. They also completed part two of their STEM challenge.
Year 6 are learning all about 'Light' and although we couldn't take them on a field trip into space, a visit to the Aurora Planetarium and a closer look at the workings of a telescope was a fantastic alternative. They were also taken on an immersive trip through the human body!
Year 5 have been investigating the massive scale of the solar system using toilet rolls to measure out the distance of the planets from the sun. It took the entire length of the dining room, even though the first 4 planets were all within 2m of the sun.
Reception have been sewing fish. They took their time and concentrated to make sure they threaded the needle the correct way to make a loop stitch.
Year 5 had great fun with this year’s ‘connections’ themed Science Week.
Year 2 took part in a live NFU lesson as part of Science Week thinking about how tractors are connected to space. They thought about what materials a tractor would be made from, the jobs it would do and they learnt about how they are connected to satellites in space. They even pretended they were the satellite to guide the tractor back to the shed!
As part of their RE topic 'Why is the Torah Special?' Year 2designed and created their own Torah scrolls. They used some of the Jewish symbols and included the Ten Commandments in their scroll.
Year 4 enjoyed taking part in a cookery workshop run by our fantastic kitchen team. Linking with their Incredible India topic, they watched a demonstration and then made their own samosas with mouth-watering results!
Using Lego, Hot Wheels, and dominoes to create zip lines and Rube Goldberg machines. The activities set raised lots of scientific questions about tension, inclines and transfer of energy.
Year 6 discovered what happens when individual rays of light strike a mirror and bounce off. They quickly established that there was a clear pattern between the angle of the ray of light and the angle of the reflected light.
Year 6had an enjoyable day at Magna. They took part in two fascinating workshops - one all about light and the other involving analysing a crime scene, blood samples and fingerprints to work out 'who dunnit.'
Then they explored the elements of fire and air in the museum.
Grosvenor. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams came away with third place overall - with an amazing first place and course record for Kieran.
Well done to our swimsquadwho fought hard against Ashville College earlier in the week. Some excellent individual performances and some close finishes.
U8 and U9 netballers thoroughly enjoyed the netball festival hosted at the Grove on Tuesday. Some great teamwork and individual skill on show.
