Congratulations to everyone.
This week, merit badges were distributed to those pupils who have attained six or more excellent effort grades on their Autumn Term report.
Particular congratulations to our ‘Full Congratulations Many congratulations to Mr Gallucci and his wife who welcomed a baby girl into their family during the Christmas holidays.

Ashdown Lodge

This term Pre Nursery are looking at Construction and Transport and turned the outdoor sandpit into a large construction site complete with builders dressing up, bricks, tools and diggers. Pupils have also been painting with blocks to see what patterns they can make.

At snack time, this week, Reception pupils have been peeling and chopping their own fruit, key skills to help them to learn to become more independent.

This half term in Nursery, looks at people who help us. The children painted different people who help them around the school. The children have also been on a winter's walk and looked at the changes this season, looking at the apple and pear trees and talking about when things will start to grow again.

Key Stage 1 Learning

Year 2 have been learning about the early life of Florence Nightingale. They took part in a finding challenge around the classroom to try and answer questions about her and

As an introduction to our new English writing text, Year 2 were shocked to find their classrooms had been ransacked and a strange looking egg left behind.

After examining the evidence and making detailed notes, using expanded noun phrases, they concluded that the suspect was probably a dragon!

They created some lovely paintings of what they thought the visiting dragon might have looked like.

Key Stage 2 Learning

Year 3 are loving their new Pathways text this half term The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. They have drawn some predictions of what they think the Iron Man might have looked like.

have been learning all about circuits and electrical components this week. They worked together to produce a lemon battery which reinforced their knowledge of positive and negative terminals. They had to ensure that the electrical circuit was complete to illuminate the LED light.

Year 3 have also been studying Roman sculpture and experimenting with a range of pencil grades to create different tonal values to make their 2D drawings appear 3D.

Year 4 have a new topic, ‘Incredible India’. In RE, they have been learning about Hinduism and using their maps skills to locate where Hinduism was founded and the countries it is practised today.

Members of Year 3 and 4 Textile Club have been introduced to the technique of batik. They designed their flowers and then applied wax-resist to the cloth. They are in the process of painting them, using special batik ink. We can’t wait to see how they turn out.

In geography, they have been busy locating and researching the different mountain ranges of India and making beautiful presentations using the IPADs.

The Year 5 & 6 'Lego Engineers' are off to a flying start, this term. They were challenged to build a famous landmark. Their creations, built in just half an hour, included Mecca, The Statue of Liberty, The leaning Tower of Pisa and the Kennedy Space Centre.

A Guide toOnlineSafety andGaming

Congratulations to Maya, Year, 6, swim captain, who has been talent spotted by the coach of Bradford Rising Stars Swimming Club. Maya will have the opportunity to train with City of Bradford Swim Club to hopefully start her competitive pathway.

The SWGfL has published a pamphlet on how to best keep safe whilst using online software and games. With advice on reporting and blocking, online socialisation and the considerations on online gaming, the pamphlet can be a useful resource for anyone wanting to understand more about various games.
