Dina Nayeri: Author Visit
Last week, older students attended a presentation from Dina Nayeri; an asylum seeker, refugee and now award-winning author with an incredible story to tell. She was 10 years old when she left Iran with her mother and 7-year old brother. After spending a great deal of time in a refugee camp in Italy, they ended up in the United States.
Pupils learned how Dina must have felt to leave behind her father, and her friends and go to a strange country on the other side of the world, because her life was in danger.

Coronation Page 2023
Reception have been learning about King Charles III and what a Coronation is. They painted portraits of the King and wrote some facts about him.
Some pupils have been making coronation art and looking at a coronation souvenir book from 1937 as well as a telescopic coronation memento from Queen Elizabeth's coronation in 1952.
Year 4 and Year 6 also researched the weight of the coronation crown!
Pre Nursery their decorated crowns. Year 3 preparation for his coronation.
Everyone enjoyed their Coronation picnic!!
KS1 Music Appreciation Club have been learning about and listening to The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens. They talked about the different instruments the composer wrote the music for and Miss Campbell brought in her cello for the children to look at. Theia even had a go at playing it!
They also took part in a quiz to guess which animal each piece of music might have been written about - listening to the tempo or speed of the notes to see whether it gave them any clues. Was it slow like a tortoise or jumpy like a kangaroo?
Year 1 enjoyed a super trip to Harlow Carr last week, where they took part in a workshop learning about what plants need to grow.
They measured and made observations about different plants, created tree bark rubbings, completed a spring flower hunt activity and enjoyed sketching many different plants.
They also planted Nasturtium seeds which they are going to care for in the classroom. Fingers crossed for some colourful flowers!
Year 2 have been painting African Animal patterns. They colour mixed the different colours and studied the patterns and shapes carefully.
Year 2 have also been learning about urban habitats in science and walked around the school grounds to see whether they could spot different things that were living, dead or never been alive. They had to use their knowledge of the life processes learnt last week to decide which category each item would fit into.
They also went on a mini beast hunt, looking for lots of different micro
Year 2 have been very creative working on their African art silhouette paintings.
This week, Year 3 have been busy finding out about light and reflection in science. This week they had fun experimenting with shadow puppets!
This week Year 4 tried Extreme Sudoko! as one of their maths challenges. Resilience was key; true Grovians!
Year 5 have been getting to grips with money. In an age when we use plastic cards or phones to make payments, children often don't handle cash. So, Year 5 have been totting up pocket money, calculating change, and applying mental arithmetic skills to solve money related problems.
Year 5 and Year 6 enjoying their climbing option during games last week.
Year 3 and 4 were completely engrossed in the maths roadshow on Thursday afternoon. They worked collaboratively to solve as many problems as possible you could hear their cogs turning!
In Year 6 art, the children have been practising their observational drawing skills and using watercolours to paint tulips with delightful results!
