Action Projects Workshop This workshop looked at Tree’s £500 fund for local groups to run a youth led project in partnership with the local community to have a positive impact. We first looked at the key criteria of an action project that the youth panel use to judge whether to reward the money or not. These are: Youth Led Positive Impact Community Partnership Thought out and planned Then members of the groups spoke about their experiences of action projects and top tips were noted down from these. The group then broke up into their local groups to either map their local community to see who they could do a project with or used the top tips and ideas to plan their own action project. Use any contacts you have in the local community Make sure you have a strong plan so you can use your time well. Use any “inside information” you may have. Split up your planning into bite size parts to make it easier for the groups to cope with, either across group nights or into smaller working groups. Use the community map activity in the activity pack as a way to work out local community partners. The group’s ideas for possible action projects Geocaching Day as a part of the Cache In, Trash Out programme (http://www.geocaching.com/cito/) lead by the Ventures. A possible follow up projects is to get the Ventures to support the a groups of Pioneers to run a similar event. Set up a joint project with the local PHAB (http://phab.org.uk/) groups, who are just setting up in this area. Venturers teaching parachute games and circus skills to local youth groups as a practice run for an international visit to Kenya to teach them similar skills.
