Editor's Note
Welcome to September's Issue of the Women Thrive Magazine. In this issue, we are talking about back to school, back to business For most, September is when school's back in session and, for many mompreneurs, this is the time when we say goodbye to school-aged kids and hello to business opportunities.
This month, we feature Allie Hill, a writer, speaker, and certified life coach who helps empty-nest moms adjust to their new season of life. The truth is that many empty-nest moms feel a heaviness and emptiness that follows them when kids leave the nest, and Allie says this is a completely normal feeling. Being an emptynest mom is a journey - one that is to be taken at your own pace
We highlighted this cover story because it isn't a topic that mainstream media platforms are talking about; we felt that we owed it to our audience to bring this into the spotlight and showcase that it's okay to go through these emotions, especially this time of year Whether you're sending your kids to school, are going back to school yourself, running your business, or simply working through the journey of empty nesting, we hope this edition brings you joy, comfort, and insight
In this month's issue, we also talk about communication, burnout, marketing strategies, freelancing tips, seasons of transformation in the menstrual cycle and entrepreneurial journey, and more.
With Love,
Raimonda

Beat the PostSummer Blues
Simple Tips to Ease Back to Work
Ilove the month of September It reminds me of all those years ago when the summer blues would start and summer was coming to an end and my mother and I would go back-to-school shopping I loved getting new clothes for school, but my favorite thing was picking out all the new school supplies It felt like a new beginning, a fresh start!
I still feel that way! I view the month of September almost like January 1 but without all the expectations and pressure It's a wonderful time to evaluate where you are now, and what goals you’d like to set for yourself for the upcoming year
For many working women, being able to take time off during the summer can be a double-edged sword For some, it feels like a welcome opportunity to reset and enjoy time with family and friends But for others, taking time away from work brings up feelings of dread as they anticipate returning to a huge mountain of unanswered emails and tedious tasks, creating an overwhelming feeling of being behind before they even begin.
I have found that, with some careful planning, the return to full-time work can be accomplished with ease and can even result in heightened productivity if you bring to it a renewed sense of commitment and enthusiasm.
Your mindset greatly influences your return to the workplace. How you spend the last few days of your summer holiday sets the tone for the coming weeks and months. Take the time to make sure that you are squeezing out every single moment of joy possible, by being present and grateful for the time you had away from work and/or the children's school schedule and activities.
Make sure that you are taking time to absorb the summer vibes of refreshment, replenishment, recharging, and relaxation, especially when the summer blues hit. Make the decision before you return to work that you will bring this same sense of rejuvenation back to your workplace >>

SPECIAL FEATURE
"I am always encouraging my clients to take small actions that ultimately lead to big change. ”
At the same time, it's important to acknowledge any feelings of melancholy that the summer blues are starting and vacation is coming to a close It is always best to allow your feelings to pass through you so that you can get to the feelings that help you create what you may want: motivation, focus, and desire in your 'real life' What has worked best for my clients and myself is to get organized ahead of time Screeching in the day before school begins or work resumes are surefire ways of setting yourself up for problems If possible, plan your return a few days in advance so that you can get a head-start on cleaning out your inbox, unpacking, and creating a sense of order Taking a few days as transition time will help you ease into your first work week
Make a to-do list, along with an estimate of how long it will take you to accomplish each task and schedule each task accordingly by putting it on your calendar This will give you a sense of relief by providing tangible evidence that you are organized. Plus, crossing things off your list feels very satisfying!
September is a wonderful time to think about setting new goals. Goals that are small, attainable, measurable, and specific are best. For example, last year I knew that I wanted to write a book, but the thought of writing 150 pages or 80,000 words seemed impossible. So I broke it down into manageable chunks I determined that each month I would need to write approximately 7,000 words (2,000 words per week, or approximately 300 words per day) I knew I could do that! Less than a year later, I completed the first draft of my book You too, can take what may feel like an impossible goal and make it possible by breaking it into micro-steps that lead to macro results
What is your goal for the year? How can you break it down into manageable chunks? Think about what you can accomplish each quarter, each month, and each week, as well as what you’d need to do daily
Breaking your goal down into small steps is essential to ensure you avoid burnout and being overwhelmed
As an empty-nest life coach, I am always encouraging my clients to take small actions that ultimately lead to big change For example, when my client Sarah shared with me that ever since her kids went off to college, she wanted to get in better shape This is a pretty common goal among empty-nest moms >>
A
WOMEN THRIVE / 09
"Plan your return a few days in advance so that you can get a head-start on cleaning out your inbox, unpacking, and creating a sense of order.”
Once we determined where Sarah was when it came to her current nutrition and exercise habits (she admitted she ate like a teenage boy and exercised like a sloth her words, not mine), I suggested that she commit to walking 10 minutes a day This sounded so manageable that she doubted it would create any significant change But since 10 minutes a day equals 70 minutes in a week, it was still more walking than she was currently doing, and she easily lost two pounds Next, we looked at her hydration She surmised she was drinking two to three cups of coffee a day and maybe one or two glasses of water, in addition to one to two glasses of wine in the evening I suggested that she drink four ounces of water or herbal tea, every two hours By the end of the first day, she had consumed approximately 24 oz of water and told me she felt more alert and energized, and actually wasn't as hungry as she had been in the past.
If you are having trouble coming up with a goal, come up with three simple tasks that you will accomplish The key is to ease yourself back into your work life with tiny tasks that will give you easy wins, which will lead to a feeling of accomplishment versus overwhelm These can include chores that need to be done around the house as well You might be surprised by how accomplished a well-organized closet or junk drawer makes you feel
As a writer, another trick I use is to leave myself with breadcrumbs so that I’m not facing a blank page every time I come back to the computer If I am in the middle of writing a chapter, for example, I don't complete it I leave off in the middle so that I have an easy entry point when I start back up the next day The same approach can work well as you ease back into a work schedule If you have client work to do, begin by outlining emails so that when you return the next morning, they're already halfway to completion. You can also use this tactic to organize your work week. Do a brain dump at night on a legal pad, and the next day, peruse your list of things to do and appointments to make and plug them into your calendar.
As you wind down this summer, think about what goals might improve your overall life. It’s always important to know the WHY behind your goals too. Why do you believe a particular goal would improve your life? How will you feel when you’ve accomplished this goal? Lean into that feeling; that’s your beacon of inspiration.
If you're not feeling inspired about the prospect of tackling a project, try taking a 20-minute walk. Don't get on your phone or listen to a podcast or music. Simply be in the moment, noticing the colors, the smells, and the sounds. Inspiration is only available when we are open to receiving it. Taking time out in our day to create space so that we are aligned with our values and goals will help to ensure that we are living our life on purpose.

Is Your Communication an
Asset or a Liability?
by Kawtar El Alaoui, LL.B, PCC
How often do those words pop in your mind after a meeting or conversation?
Though training on communication abounds, unresolved misunderstandings and tensions continue to grow in the world. It can feel like we are speaking endlessly to say little of substance. Being shuffled from meeting to meeting for things that do not require our presence, time, or effort. Leaving us feeling frustrated, wondering how do we say no? How can we be clearer and more efficient?
Given the importance of a leader’s ability to communicate effectively, it is hard to understate the critical importance of devoting time and resources to gain and practice the essential skills for clear and effective communication
While communication programs teach you how to communicate, they often fall short of conveying the importance of the source of your communication: awareness of the internal state of being you communicate from In short, you are conditioned to communicate from your unconscious And the unconscious contains much of what you suppressed to protect yourself from painful situations
What you suppress, though, can bubble up in full force at the most inconvenient times, turning simple conversations into painful encounters This is how conflict begins
BUSINESS 12 / WOMEN THRIVE
“That was a total waste of time.”
"While communication programs teach you how to communicate, they often fall short of conveying the importance of the source of your communication."
But here is a secret I learned years ago: “You do not have to attend every argument you are invited to ” This one single line is so profound that it shifted my attention and energy toward peace each time a conflict was imminent But I also had to learn the vital distinction between avoiding conflict, and developing the ability to stay centered and clear long enough for a peaceful resolution
The truth is the quality of your communication is determined by far more than the words you use Our body language often mirrors the gap between our thoughts and our words But far beyond that, here are just some of the differences that challenge our attempts to communicate effectively:
Personality differences
Values
Cultural norms
Gender experiences
Trauma responses
Personal stressors
Time stressors
Environmental stressors like organizational culture
Regardless of the roles you play in life, your ability to communicate literally shapes the relationships around you, hence, making your communication the vehicle for your sense of connection, your boundaries, your influence, and your impact.
Here are 5 skills to cultivate that will sharpen your communication skills:
Collaborative listening ®: While active listening helps you listen with presence, collaborative listening brings the heart into the listening It speaks to the intention with which you listen, and it supports you in looking for win-win outcomes, from a place of clarity, and alignment
Self-awareness:
As the leader of your life, and your vision, your self-awareness opens the doors to success. Developing and practicing the ability to recognize the emotions, needs, values, and wounds that drive your behavior gives you the ability to interrupt harmful patterns. For example, if you are an overly empathic leader, you will likely have difficulty holding people accountable for their actions. And instead, overgive to exhaustion to compensate. Becoming aware of how this pattern translates in behaviors, actions or inactions, helps you interrupt it, and instead communicate your real needs.
Emotional regulation:
While self-awareness gives you the recognition of your patterns, emotional regulation allows you to shift your emotional state quickly and effectively from reactivity to response.
Developing emotional regulation, though, is no easy feat when you are wounded. Whether it is about receiving feedback or going into the fightflight response due to a past trauma, being triggered emotionally and having the ability to self-regulate is generally the outcome of many hours of mindfulness building practices. >>

Communication is only the surface layer of much of our own inner world It acts as an outer manifestation of our unseen pain, and our healed patterns. As a leader called into steering your life and working with a deep sense of purpose, alignment and clarity, mastering your communication is a necessary endeavor, if not a spiritual practice.

The Practical Guide for Successful Women to Thrive
How to Avoid Burnout
by Carmen Benton
In the fast-paced world we live in, burnout has become an all-too-common phenomenon, affecting individuals across various walks of life However, for successful women who juggle multiple responsibilities and strive for excellence in every aspect of their lives, burnout can be particularly prevalent and detrimental The relentless pursuit of success often takes a toll on their mental, emotional, and physical well-being
To break free from the cycle of burnout, it's crucial for these women to explore and heal their inner child wounds, the deep-seated beliefs and experiences that hinder their ability to maintain balance, joy, and fulfillment In this practical guide, we will delve into three essential steps successful women can take to heal their inner child wounds and achieve sustained success and well-being
Step 1: Mindfulness Connecting with Your Inner Child
The first step towards healing inner child wounds is cultivating mindfulness, which involves developing a nonjudgmental awareness of the present moment Mindfulness enables you to become attuned to your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations, allowing you to uncover the root causes of burnout By dedicating regular time to selfreflection and introspection, you can reconnect with your inner child - the part of you that carries unaddressed wounds and unmet needs from the past
Start by finding a quiet space where you can be alone with your thoughts Breathe deeply and observe your feelings and thoughts as they arise, without judgment or attachment This practice will create a safe environment for your inner child to express itself and be heard Over time, you'll develop a deeper understanding of your emotional triggers and patterns, empowering you to take proactive steps towards healing

Step 3: Inner Child Healing Seeking Support and Professional Help:
While mindfulness and self-love are powerful tools for healing, it's important to acknowledge that healing deep-seated inner child wounds may require professional support. Consider seeking guidance where you can be provided with a safe space for you to heal past experiences. There are several techniques currently used to help the process of healing your inner child; the one I recommend is energy healing in combination with mindset coaching because it’s safe, fast, and practically painless, where you are not prompted to re-experience any traumatic event.
Achieving sustained success and well-being requires a holistic approach that goes beyond surface-level self-care practices. By delving into the core of your inner child wounds, you can address the underlying causes of burnout and create lasting change. The three practical steps outlined in this guide - mindfulness, self-love, and seeking support - serve as a foundation for healing and growth. Embrace these steps today and unlock the secrets to sustained success and well-being. Remember, your journey toward healing your inner child is unique, and progress may take time. But by prioritizing your own well-being and investing in your inner child's healing, you're taking a significant step towards a more balanced, fulfilling, and thriving life.

"Set clear boundaries and learn to say no when necessary. "
Our journey through life is filled with choices to make I used to be afraid of making decisions and relied on others for even the smallest things like movies or meals in restaurants. I wasn’t aware of the power I was giving up. I didn't realize that every choice, whether in relationships, careers, or daily routines, shapes our future. Understanding the true potential of choice unlocks endless possibilities. With practice, making choices becomes easier and even more enjoyable. Instead of handing your choices to others, you can harness choice as your superpower.
by Kasia Krasucka
CHOICE Your New Superpower!
Are You Giving Your Superpower Away?
Do you ever say, "I have no choice"? In certain situations, it's easy to believe that circumstances control us But here's the truth: even by not making a choice, you are still making a choice Instead of feeling helpless or trapped, we must realize that our choices have a significant influence on all aspects of our lives Every decision you make shapes your path, and it's up to you to seize the opportunities that come your way You have the ability to make empowered decisions as long as you don’t give up on your Superpower
Embracing Freedom in Choice
I want you to imagine that you have two choices: earning 1 million dollars or impacting 1 million people Which would you pick? While you are considering your answer, observe the thoughts and feelings that arise, and take note Our response not only reveals the beliefs and interpretations that influence our decisions, but also highlights how we often fall into the trap of believing that we must choose one thing over another But here's the thing: often we can actually choose both Reflect on the choices you've made recently Have you limited yourself or held back? By opening yourself to the idea of choosing more options, you automatically welcome more experiences You don't have to stick to one path when there are many opportunities to explore
18 / WOMEN THRIVE MINDSET
" You don't have to stick to one path when there are many opportunities to explore."
Awareness and Conscious Choices
Be aware of the power of choice in shaping your life Take a moment to reflect on the choices you make daily Even reading this article is an empowering choice you've made, a step towards personal growth and self-improvement
But are your choices conscious? For instance, think about what you had for breakfast Did you consciously decide what to eat, or was it a habit? Awareness is key When you are more aware of your choices, they become more meaningful and empowering Remember, every step you take, from your level of engagement to your commitment and attitude, is guided by your own choices Empower them with awareness to become a conscious creator of your life
Taking Responsibility for Our Choices
One crucial aspect of choice is taking responsibility for the decisions we make Life doesn't simply happen to us; we actually have the power to shape our experiences through the choices we make When we embrace accountability, it empowers us to learn from our decisions, make adjustments when needed, and feel in control of our lives Remember, every choice you make is an opportunity for growth, even if things don't turn out as expected Embracing responsibility brings valuable lessons Celebrate the wisdom gained along the way I talk more about this in my Transform With Kasia YouTube series
Empowering Language
The words we use affect how we see the world. Notice how often you say, "I have to”. These words can take away your power without you realizing it Instead, try saying, "I choose to” This simple change helps you take control and recognize your role in making decisions Pay attention to what you say out loud as well as in your thoughts, and feel the difference when you make choices consciously rather than feeling forced This small change can have a big impact on how empowered you feel
Choice is truly your superpower. It is the key that unlocks the doors of empowerment and self-discovery. When you choose consciously and take responsibility for your decisions, you gain the incredible ability to create a life filled with intention and purpose. Nelson Mandela once said: "May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears." So dare to embrace this power, and let it lead you into a world of limitless potential. Every decision shapes your path, and it's up to you to seize opportunities. Don't give up on your superpower. Make empowered choices, and embrace the bountiful possibilities that await you. Your choices transform your life. Choose your Destiny and become the greatest creator you can be.

The Age of Authenticity
The Innate Power of Just BeingYourself
by Nicole Washburn
For the past 15 years, the novelty of instant visibility and rapid connections through social media has fascinated us. For sheer marketing purposes alone, these online spaces have been very generous to business owners who wanted to get attention quickly.
Social media platforms have rewarded the bold, those who got over their initial shyness and instinct for privacy and regularly shared intimate details of their life. Showing up day after day, week after week, became a full-time job for those who could stomach it.
Here's my dog, here's my dinner, here's my trip to New York City, here's my partner, this is me in my bathing suit, my purple toenail polish, here's me having a cup of coffee on the back porch. It may seem dreary now, but for a long time, this kind of engagement got lots of attention and led to lots of sales. NO MORE!
A new era in marketing
Everything shifted when an overpopulation of the “Look-At-Me” humble brags took over social media Then it shifted again when Covid sent everyone online for work and we quickly lost interest in all the superficial navel-gazing. It all started to feel, if not fake, then highly stylized and selected. What was once novel & exciting had become boring. The ground was fertile for another shift.
The “rules of engagement” have changed because your audience has changed. This new demand for authenticity, tells us: “Relax. Stop trying to look perfectly put together and perfectly cool.”
It's not your hair, your boutique website, or your wardrobe that interests them anymore. It’s YOU.
It’s truly your time to stand out and turn heads just by being yourself. Your authenticity is the new gold standard. Why? Because potential clients need to see if they like you before they buy from you. It’s as simple as that. Connecting with you is their top priority. So, the first thing they do is vet you - to decide if you’re the real deal or not. (They know B.S. when they smell it.) Which is why your authenticity is their gold standard.
Show them who you really are
Potential clients want to see your natural quirks. They will love you and choose to work with you because of them! Show what makes you different everywhere in your marketing content - emails, videos, opt-ins, sales pages, and training
MARKETING 20 / WOMEN THRIVE
The age of authenticity is here
What all this means is, it’s truly your time to stand out and turn heads Your biggest sales asset is now YOU Sales are now WAY MORE about you-theperson delivering the service than the service itself
In today’s market, real-life human connection is everything Your clients are looking for guidance from someone who has been there, walked the walk, and knows what it’s really like to be where they are now
So, give them a real taste of YOU Focus on everything you uniquely bring to the table right now Share your story Now, that’s interesting Your voice Your vision Your WHY Your unique perspective Your beauty and inspiration
Ask yourself questions that reveal your best sales content: What have you mastered? What do you know? What do you love? What habits have made all the difference? What demons have you conquered? Why are you doing this? What inspires you in a BIG way?
Connect these gold mine answers to the services you provide and the specific benefits your clients enjoy
These ‘little details’ make a big difference for your audience Ultimately, they’ll choose to buy from you BECAUSE of those details They’re the specifics that allow them to connect with you and intuitively know they can trust you
The only way to gain their trust and their business is by being real so they can decide for themselves if they like you Expose thyself, Lady Godiva style By which I mean in an empowered way!
Name the unique benefits of working with you and they’ll want to buy from you. Show them what they get with YOU that isn’t like the others. Perhaps you’re an amazing listener, you don't let anything rile you up, you're peaceful, you truly love yourself, you meditate regularly, and it shows. What’s super cool about you? What charities and projects do you support? What’s your life mission on the planet and how does your work connect to it?
Being real requires a lot of self-care
Feed your soul with habits that nurture you Make exercise, meditation, and mindfulness part of your daily routine Do not compromise on this
Getting vulnerable is exciting Authentic expression brings more vitality to your life and business than the coolest photo shoot in Bali ever could But it comes with a responsibility to be true to yourself, so stay connected to your soul and your source
Deep diver, it’s truly your time You've been waiting for this moment The stage is set Lights, Camera, Action: show us who you really are! This is how you thrive

Summer is the time when Mother Earth most urgently encourages us to enjoy her glory. Most people tend to be more active outside during summer months and with good reason. For one, it’s simply beautiful outside when the leaves are green and flowers are flourishing. It also is a time when people take more vacations and workloads seem to get lighter.
Many of us often feel so busy that we can sometimes neglect our physical health. Yet heart disease is the biggest killer in modern society. Walking can help reduce one’s risk for coronary heart disease, especially if done regularly and at a brisk pace. Walking also can help protect one’s joints because it helps strengthen the muscles that support the joints. It even has been shown to decrease cancer risk, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, improve memory, aid digestion, and boost immune function. Moreover, walking has a low rate of injury. With all of these benefits, walkers save money on medical care.
Secondly, because we wear less clothing in the warmer months, most of us think more about what the more visible parts of our bodies look like, and want to feel healthy. You can get toned by walking. One of my neighbors lost 30 pounds in short order when he started taking rigorous daily walks with his dog.
Walking can clear your head and boost energy levels I practice deep breathing when I walk, which re-centers me. My creativity soars when I have a clear mind. My mood also is elevated when I walk. Exercise in general improves one’s mental health and decreases stress, and there is no easier exercise than walking.
Some of my friends listen to podcasts when they walk. Most podcasts are free and they cover a wide range of topics. There is something for everyone. I enjoy listening to TED Talks when I walk. I strive to learn new things every day, and TED Talks provide excellent mental floss, like this Talk. An upbeat music playlist, on the other hand, may add verve to your steps.
Forest bathing has become somewhat popular in recent years. You can read more about this practice here. Walking through woods can be meditative. Meditation decreases our blood pressure and re-centers us. Although I live in a metropolitan area, there are parks and wooded areas. And the air feels cleaner and more refreshing out of doors.
HEALTH 22 / WOMEN THRIVE
" Exercise in general improves one’s mental health and decreases stress, and there is no easier exercise than walking."
All of us can benefit from walking, according to numerous studies, like this one Not only is it better for the environment than driving, but it is better for our bodies and our minds With a sedentary job, I need to make time to walk more My dog helps me build walking time into my days, but I also enjoy solo walks I have met more neighbors, discovered abundant gardens, and enjoyed the animal life I am able to observe when I am quiet
New Yorkers typically have lower body fat percentages because they live in a city where most people walk as much as possible Having a car in New York City is expensive and a hassle
The city is rich with attractions and interesting things to see and do Seeing it on foot offers many rewards When I visit New York, I strive to walk in a new neighborhood each time
Having a walking partner may help to keep you on track If I know someone is waiting for me or expects me to walk on a given day, I will make more of an effort, even if I am tired. If you do not know of anyone who would like to walk regularly with you, consider finding a meetup group or joining a walking club. You could even start one yourself.
Hiking is a terrific weekend activity Our national parks offer true treasures, and many are free More people discovered the national parks’ pleasures during the pandemic, so if you plan to stay overnight, look into reservations Once you build up your hiking confidence, you may even consider walking the Appalachian Trail, doing the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, or even trekking in the Himalayas.
Feel like you have no time for walking regularly? Park further away from your destination, get off of public transportation one stop early, and increase the distances you walk to get places. Do errands on foot. Try some high stepping in place when watching television. Some people are very motivated by pedometers or step trackers, which are built into iPhones and Apple watches. Ten thousand steps a day, or about five miles, is a common goal. A friend of mine does loops around her living room, dining room, and kitchen to make up steps to get to 10,000 if her regular travels do not yield enough steps to make her daily goal.
You need not join a gym to garner physical health benefits. Get outside. And start walking.

Women supporting women is a powerful concept that can lead to collective empowerment, growth, and progress. However, despite the importance of women feeling safe with each other, there are barriers that hinder this support system.
“Catty communications” between women can be problematic in corporate life and social engagements. This is a way of showing up in a world where women feel motivated to speak negatively about each other, as competition over collaboration is the driving mindset
In my own globally-diverse experience of training, corporate life, and teaching, I have experienced the ‘dark side’ of female engagement My journalism and coaching contacts have shared too many stories reflecting negative accounts of bad practices and abuse between women
1. Ego: The Silent Divider
The ego is an inflated sense of self-importance, which can create a wedge between any person, including female-to-female relationships. It's impossible to establish a supportive network when you feel that you are better than others and only see your progress expressed by belittling others. When women let their egos take control, it becomes difficult for them to genuinely celebrate each other's achievements. Instead of fostering solidarity, they may feel threatened by the accomplishments of their peers.
Language Example:
For instance, instead of praising a fellow woman's promotion, an ego-driven response might be, "Well, I have more qualifications; it’s ridiculous that people could see her as smarter than me!”
A less catty response would be, “I’m so interested to understand why I was not offered the role so that I can make a better application next time ”
I will share the three most common factors that I have understood to cause these problems - ego, scarcity complex, and insecurity It’s these core traits that prevent women from wholeheartedly supporting one another When we understand the way language shapes the culture around us, we can make better choices to create the best ecosystems for positive relationships
MIND

"Catty communications between women can be problematic."
"It's impossible to establish a supportive network when you feel that you are better than others . "
2. Scarcity Complex: The Fear of Limited Resources
The scarcity complex arises from a belief that there is a limited pool of resources, opportunities, or recognition available for women. This mindset creates an atmosphere of ‘me versus them’ at the expense of team spirit. Women may feel compelled to outshine one another to secure their ‘share’, inadvertently perpetuating a cycle of distrust and individualism.
Language Example:
A scarcity complex may manifest in language through statements like, "There are only a few spots for female executives, so I need to make others look incompetent to stand a chance.” Another supportive reframing would be, “Let me lead a group activity/event where we can pool our knowledge to grow our talents.”
3. Insecurity: The Self-Doubt Dilemma
Insecurity can undermine women's ability to support one another Deep-seated feelings of inadequacy or imposter syndrome may lead women to question their own abilities, making it challenging to uplift and endorse their fellow women
Language Example:
Insecure language can be observed when a woman responds to another's success with: “I don't know how she got that promotion; she's probably just lucky ” A less invalidating option would be, “I’d like to understand the work strategy used to get to where she is ”
Breaking the Barriers:
To overcome these mindset blocks and foster genuine support among women, it is crucial to address them head-on Here are a few strategies to consider:
1 Self-reflection and Awareness: Developing self-awareness about one's ego, scarcity complex, or insecurities can be the first step toward overcoming these barriers By recognizing and acknowledging these mindset blocks, women can consciously choose to change their perspectives
2 Collaboration and Mentorship: Promoting collaboration and mentorship programs can create opportunities for women to share experiences, knowledge, and resources By working together and offering guidance, women can break free from the scarcity complex and encourage a supportive environment
3. Celebrating Diverse Achievements: Embracing and celebrating the achievements of all women, regardless of their field or background, can combat ego-driven divisions. Recognising and uplifting each other's successes fosters an environment of encouragement and solidarity.

Understanding the mindset blocks that hinder women from supporting each other is essential for a more inclusive and empowering social ecosystem We can overcome these barriers by addressing ego, scarcity complex, and insecurity and creating a supportive network where women thrive collectively Let’s advocate for the positive points in this article and call out the negative trends In this way we can break “catty communication” patterns and forge a path towards a future where women wholeheartedly support one another, celebrating each other's achievements and inspiring a wave of mutual progress

Even when you love your job, sometimes, you just need a break. Maybe it’s the sandy beaches, the rolling mountains, or a calm lake. Regardless of where you are, one thing is certain, when you’re away from work you do not want to be thinking about work. Furthermore, taking time away is actually good for your productivity! So, how do you ensure your time out of the office makes your life better instead of worse?
Proactively Communicate Expectations
Before you leave for an extended period of time, let your coworkers, clients, or vendors know what you will and will not be able to do while away. If you cannot fully unplug, set certain times when you will be able to answer calls and emails and stick to those times!
Before you go off the grid, remind people when you will be gone and ask for any matters to be addressed before you leave. If there is another person who can handle matters in your absence, make sure to share their information with anyone who could need it before you leave. In whatever way you can, prepare others for your absence.
Delegate
Many of us worry about placing burdens on others, especially when we are out of the office The truth is, you should lean on your team when needed Not only is it useful in your time of need, but you also help them to see they can do the same, which creates a stronger work experience
Before you head out, assign your mandatory weekly tasks to employees or co-workers to ensure business continuity. Ask someone to manage any physical items in your absence such as snail mail or in-office voicemails. Inform anyone acting as your proxy how to make decisions in your absence and when, if at all, to contact you during this time.
BUSINESS
" Remind people when you will be gone and ask for any matters to be addressed before you leave."
34 / WOMEN THRIVE
Lean on Technology
Once you have set clear expectations for your absence, you can use automation to reinforce and protect your plan An automatic responder on your email and text messages is exceptional for communicating expectations at any time, in both a personal and professional setting
Whether letting senders know you will ‘check your email once per day’ or that ‘Susan is the point of contact until you return’ can be a powerful practice In addition to telling others what to expect from you while you are out of the office, this is a great way to reduce the perceived sense of urgency that many new emails or text messages can create for you
It would also be wise to stop or reduce push notifications while you are away The reality is you will sync your inbox or check your social media as soon as you have a spare second It’s better for you to do this on your time instead of at the beckoning of your phone The adjustments are simple to make and wildly effective You will be surprised what you don’t miss, what can wait, and what you seek out on your own terms
Remember, you deserve to take breaks and sometimes breaks in work cannot be avoided Thankfully, you are more productive when you take breaks and time away from work doesn’t have to stop the wheels from turning So, consider the step above to stop feeling anxiety when you take time for yourself and when you’re out of the office

How to Declutter Your Mind
by Krystle Hearley
MIental clutter is exhausting. “Clutter is an overabundance of possessions that collectively create chaotic and disorderly living spaces,” said Joseph Ferrari, a professor of psychology at DePaul University in Chicago.
Now, replace “possessions” with “thoughts” and “living space” with “mind,” and you will define mental clutter
Have you ever said, “My brain never turns off”? That’s a tell-tale sign you have a cluttered or messy mind If it’s hard to focus on only one thing, aka “mono-tasking”, or it’s hard to fall asleep at night, you are likely dealing with a cluttered mind
Lacking focus can be frustrating, as well as difficulty with sleep Modern society is so fastpaced that we can easily be constantly stimulated or receive input from the outside world for the entirety of a day (i e other people, tv shows, music, computer screens, traffic, kids, news, podcasts, exercise class instructor, etc ) Thinking about it that way, it’s no wonder that we have difficulty quieting or clearing our heads
If we are awake for 16 hours of a 24-hour period, we could be continuously stimulated for those 16 hours, from one source or another. Think through your daily routine. Is there ever a time that you are not engaged with something or multiple things throughout your day?
Clearing your head, or quieting your mind, is a skill - a learnable skill You can learn how to organize your mind so you no longer reach the point of a chaotic, ‘always on’, jumbled, muddled brain This skill is learned through the practice of mindfulness Now, stick with me Mindfulness is a household word these days, but it is not the one-size-fits-all practice you may be used to hearing about Mindfulness is an umbrella term for a variety of ways to clear your mind and focus
Mindfulness is the practice of focusing on what you choose to focus on in any given moment while letting distractions come and go, and returning your focus to only what you chose
There are some universal truths about mindfulness, but practicing it will look different for everyone Let’s start with two universal truths:
Less is more Come back to the present moment
MINDFULLNESS 36 / WOMEN THRIVE
"Clearing your head, or quieting your mind, is a skill - a learnable skill."
Less is more: Specifically less stimulation, less multitasking, less pressure We live in a world of more, more, more If we never turn off that mindset, it becomes our default mindset and we act and think on autopilot from a place of more, more, more, causing us to never feel content with where we’re at
The goal of mindfulness is to take a break from all that is coming at us in the outside world and check in with our inner world This is why mindfulness is often recommended to be practiced in a quiet space However, we can practice anywhere If we are walking down a busy street, with a variety of distractions, we can still practice ‘less is more’ by focusing on one part of the walk We can walk without any music or phone distractions We can tune out the cars and the rude people passing by We can focus only on our breath while we walk Oh, we’ll be distracted! But then we can practice coming back to the breath
Come back to the present moment: Our thoughts are so often (almost always) about the future or the past - even if it’s 5 minutes in the future, or what we just did a minute ago. So, right now, focus … on … this … sentence … that … is … in … front … of … you. Tell me, were you able to focus on that unique-looking sentence? That means you were being mindful while reading it. Now, while you were reading the sentence before that one, were you thinking about the sentence with all the dots? Did you just have to reread the beginning of the paragraph again because you don’t remember how the paragraph started?
The sentence with the dots was in the future in relation to the beginning of the paragraph, but the beginning of the paragraph was mundane and it’s easy to get distracted by something that catches our attention (more, more, more OR next, next, next). We know how to focus, but the muscle has weakened. We just need to practice.
Mindfulness is an expansive concept. We’ve only touched on the tip of the iceberg. You’ll notice that not once did I talk about taking 30 minutes out of your day to add in mindfulness practice. Mindfulness can be practiced during everything we are already doing in our daily life. This is why it will look unique to everyone.
Pick one thing you do every day and practice being mindful during it. Some suggestions are: while brushing your teeth, notice the physical sensations; in the shower, notice the temperature and pressure of the water; as you fall asleep, notice how the bed is supporting your body; before you get out of bed in the morning, notice the quietness in the room; while stirring dinner on the stovetop, notice the smell that’s intensifying.
In conclusion, mindfulness is the best way to declutter your mind and regain mental focus. There are a variety of physical and emotional benefits that come from the practice of mindfulness. But, powerfully, you’ll notice immediate benefits while doing it.
Because the practice of mindfulness is not a one-size-fits-all approach, it is helpful to work with a professional that can personalize the practice to fit best into your world and help you navigate obstacles you encounter when implementing it. I could talk about mindfulness all day! If you’d like to chat about introducing mindfulness into your life, you’re welcome to contact me

Seasons of Transformation in the Menstrual Cycle and Entrepreneurial Journey
by Bea-Marie Aning
As the summer sun gently fades, making way for the vibrant colors of autumn, and children eagerly return to their classrooms, there's an undeniable sense of transition and initiation in the air. Just as nature experiences the changing seasons, so too do our lives. As entrepreneurial women, we navigate through various phases in our personal and professional journeys, experiencing the ebb and flow of energy, and the powerful cycles akin to the seasons in our menstrual cycles. In this article, I want to delve with you into the profound parallels between the seasons of life, the phases within the menstrual cycle, and the transformative process of rebirth that awaits us at their culmination.
Embracing the Phases of Life: Seasons of Transformation
Like the seasons, our lives unfold in chapters, each representing a unique phase of growth and self-discovery From the youthful exuberance of spring to the flourishing maturity of summer, the reflective introspection of autumn, and finally, the stillness and contemplation of winter, we experience life's ever-changing landscape In the business world, we encounter the excitement of starting a new venture, the growth and expansion of our enterprises, and the challenges and lessons learned during times of transition and adaptation. Each phase is an initiation, an opportunity to learn and evolve.
The Dance of the Menstrual Cycle: A Metaphor for Entrepreneurial Journey
Just as the moon waxes and wanes, so does our menstrual cycle, guiding us through different phases that parallel the seasons of life The menstrual cycle offers us a profound metaphor for understanding the natural rhythm of change, energy, and creativity within ourselves
1. Menstruation (Winter)
This phase symbolizes a time of release, shedding the old to make way for the new As the body naturally detoxes, it's a potent reminder that letting go is a crucial part of rebirth In our entrepreneurial lives, this might manifest as reevaluating strategies, relinquishing what no longer serves us, and embracing stillness to listen to our inner wisdom
2. Follicular Phase (Spring)
The body prepares for a new life during this phase, much like the birth of a new project or idea As female entrepreneurs, we cultivate fresh perspectives, nurture creativity, and allow inspiration to bloom, just like the blossoming flowers of spring
WELLBEING 38 / WOMEN THRIVE
EmbracingRebirth
"
Like the seasons, our lives unfold in chapters, each representing a unique phase of growth and self-discovery."
3. Ovulation (Summer)
This phase represents the peak of vitality and energy, mirroring the vibrancy of summer It's a time of growth, abundance, and execution We seize opportunities, make bold decisions, and experience the fulfillment of seeing our visions come to life
4.
Luteal Phase (Autumn)
Similar to the harvest season, this phase is about introspection, evaluation, and preparation for the next cycle We may face challenges or setbacks during this time, but it also offers an opportunity to learn and refine our strategies, readying ourselves for the next cycle of growth
The Ultimate Rebirth: When a Baby is Born, a Mother is birthed
Among life's most profound rebirths is the experience of motherhood. The rebirth from a woman to a mother is the most life-changing journey that I have ever been on. It's a time of initiation into a new role, marked by intense love, responsibility, and growth. Motherhood embodies rebirth on all levels. Similarly, in our entrepreneurial pursuits, each new project, venture, or venture milestone births a stronger, wiser, and more resilient version of ourselves. With every challenge faced, lesson learned and success achieved, we grow as individuals and leaders.
To fully embrace the rebirth and transformative energy in our lives, it's essential to prioritize selfcare, mindfulness, and spiritual practices Taking time for ourselves, connecting with nature, and tapping into our intuition can help us navigate the phases of life with grace and resilience Incorporating meditation, physical flow (like yoga, Qi Gong, Tai-Chi), or journaling into our daily routines can provide a deeper connection to our inner selves and empower us to make conscious decisions during times of transition By honoring the seasons of life and the rhythms of our bodies, we unlock the full potential of our entrepreneurial journeys
Embrace the Journey of Rebirth
As female entrepreneurs, we are no strangers to seasons of change and the initiations that come with them. Embrace the profound wisdom of the seasons, the phases of the menstrual cycle, and the transformative power of rebirth in your life. Embody the essence of each season, learning from its lessons, and stepping into each new chapter with courage and intention. Just as nature transitions from one season to the next, so do you, as a powerful entrepreneur, embracing the cycles of life with grace and purpose.
Embrace the journey of rebirth, and let it empower you to thrive in both business and life. Remember, when you embrace your inner cycles and seasons, you'll find the strength to birth not only successful ventures but also a more authentic and empowered version of yourself. Consciously Creating Children
bySivaniIshaya
Are you putting as much energy into creating your children’s bodies as you did your business? What wise individual would want to start a new life, that will be completely dependent upon them for at least 18 years, that is beset with problems that could have so easily been avoided?
For a moment, pause and ponder the following thoughts to see where you fall on the consciouslycreating meter Even this small act will provide your future baby with so much more potential than if no conscious attention was placed on the act of creation My partner and I purposefully chose to face each other and ourselves before bringing a new life into the mix
We have chosen to first take care of our physiology in a way that results in the greatest possible health
I am willing to put the additional effort forward to nurture the amazing little body I wish to create
As a couple, we are able to converse and envision a lifestyle we are both enlivened by I know a huge red flag to my child's success is if there is endless fighting and discontent between my partner and me A developing child would then come into an environment that is conflicted and thus they would naturally assume that conflict and strife are the way of life Instead of gravitating to easy, uplifting choices, they will unconsciously always be drawn to conflict
Can you identify these statements as true for you? Or is it possible that you could prevent uncomfortable experiences by exploring further? Let’s take a look at health studies that connect with lifestyle stress and pregnancy:
“Uncontrolled hyperglycemia during pregnancy is potentially harmful to both mother and fetus, resulting in a greater need for Caesarian-section deliveries, delivery of larger infants with more excess body fat, a greater risk of infant death, and stillbirth, and an elevated risk of infant hypoglycemia immediately after birth (WJD)”
When we have to work for the things we want, we value them much more than when they were handed over to us As business women we know this to be true Ultimately, all we need for success is access to wisdom that allows us to make the best choices possible

Ayurveda offers the choice to be aware of the proper functioning of the nervous system and align the parents' lives to best support the health and wellbeing of their bodies first so that the child's life is naturally endowed with abundance and vitality Read more about Ayurveda from John Hopkins Medicine here
The way to restore or enliven proper functioning to the parent's body comes from the five-thousand-year-old wisdom also known as the science of longevity Strength and health are supported through the proper digestion of not only food but all experiences in the day to day life The imbalance of the five elements expressed through what Ayurveda calls the three Doshas, allows a consultant to discover where the individual could either engage with or refrain from certain uses of the senses It is important to note that each person is looked at uniquely in Ayurveda as this science considers this to be the ultimate truth We are each quite different and thus need a unique approach to health and longevity.
Consciously creating life doesn't just start from the preconception but is a continuous process during all three trimesters and after the baby is born Unsurprisingly, Ayurveda also considers the father/partner’s role in conception, pregnancy, birth, and life. There are a variety of ways to accomplish this and it is best to work with someone trained in this particular form of Ayurveda.
Through mindful consideration, Ojas (life force) grows in the parents’ bodies and will naturally give the very best to the child they desire to create. This is very much the choice to create from abundance and security, rather than haphazardly which often leads to insecurity and fear in the child. The balance of the three Doshas is essential to help prevent disease, promote good health, and improve the possibilities of a healthy conception, a healthy pregnancy, a normal delivery, and a healthy happy mom and child.
The most touching part is that there is still hope for those that may have chronic challenges. Ayurveda’s main function is to take healthful actions that give the very best to the parents’ bodies first, naturally resulting in more endowment to their offspring. This is most certainly the foundational desire of any wise mother and father to gi e the er best to their childre you rea aren’t set up Ayurve

Dare to Dream
by Emma Lewis
Isn’t it funny how when we ask a child what they want to be when they grow up, the answer is always anything but average? They dare to dream of being an astronaut, a world-famous musician, a popstar or a renowned sports star. The dreams of children have no limitations but, instead, endless possibilities.
After I settled into my career following university, I had endless amounts of drive. I was working in Human Resources, and I was thriving, taking strides up the corporate ladder. I have always been ambitious. If I do anything, I want it to be a success and I want to be the best. It is the very essence of who I am. However, after giving birth to my first daughter this trait became somewhat of a double-edged sword. You see now I was a mother, and in order to be ‘the best’ mum I could be, I made the decision to be a stayat-home mum, (a choice I have never regretted).
The reason I say this character trait was bittersweet? In order to fulfil my new role as a mum to the very best of my ability, I became utterly determined to give it 100% of me The downside of that? It becomes all-consuming
I see it happen a lot I write about it and speak about it We women almost have a shift in personality traits when we become mothers One minute we are confident in exactly who we are, the next we don’t even recognise the woman looking back at us The role of being a parent is considerable to say the least, I should know I have 7 children, under the age of 12 As mothers, we carry our family on our shoulders every day and, if we are not careful, whether intentionally or not, the driven, motivated, creative woman we once were, with dreams and aspirations, gets lost along the way
So my question to you mother, in the throes of your mothering journey is – do you still dare to dream?
I made a major change in my life a few years ago and decided I was going to reject the idea that motherhood was about survival I saw it everywhere Every Instagram post I clicked on, was a reminder that I should be congratulating myself for “surviving another day” of parenthood, and offered me 100 more similar messages each time I refreshed my feed. I was literally feeding into a negative mindset by absorbing this narrative. I decided to stop, change direction and chase more uplifting and positive social media accounts. One small change had a huge impact on my mindset.

Around this time, I read a powerful book called ‘Women Who Run with Wolves’ by Clarissa Pinkola Estes. It challenges women to reconnect with the fierce visionaries they are instinctually destined to be. The book ignited a spark in me and everything changed.
I began to set boundaries, with my children, my friends, and with myself. I became intentional with my time and acknowledged the impact my choices were having on the dynamic of my family. I set healthy habits and held myself accountable to them. The ripple effect of these small changes began to change the trajectory of my entire life. Suddenly I had time. ‘Me time’, in particular, became a precious commodity. Even if it was limited, I began to use it effectively. I felt the spark ignite into a fire in my belly. And just like that, I dared to dream.
Suddenly I was a mum of 7 working out, feeling strong, eating right, creating space and time for me. It felt so good to thrive in a season of life that should be overwhelming me. One of the threads that runs through the aforementioned book, is a woman’s refusal to regress once she has reconnected with her true fierce self. I identified with that. Even on the challenging days, I made sure I decompressed, even for a small window in the evening. I was determined not to drift back into that depleted all-consuming role.
I would sit in bed at night and let my mind wander What could I achieve, how could I challenge myself? Should I try and learn a new skill? I not only had more physical energy but I had a creative energy that I had never made room for
What is my passion in life now, I hear you ask?
Of course, my 7 children are by far my greatest achievement That aside, it is connecting with women, namely mothers, that I truly love I am now a motivational speaker, published writer and blogger I aim to inspire women to create, to invest in themselves, to conquer, to thrive I can attest to the fact some are doing all of this, in the throes of motherhood, surrounded by the demands of family life with little to no support This is called showing up for yourself!
Six months ago, I had a dream, piece by piece coming together in my mind It was to create a planner for busy mums And not just one to house the endless appointments and navigate rigorous schedules, but a space to organise life, thus, enabling us to create space and time to set goals and accomplish them The pages are brimming with self-help for mum, encouraging her to consider self-accountability, her general wellbeing, and her use of time It is both motivating and challenging in equal measure, with one purpose; Mum like a Boss and Thrive on the Journey
A few years ago, I was a mum of 7, barely surviving Then, I dared to dream Thriving as a mother, speaking, writing, creating my planner, and inspiring other mums is now my business The challenge – I dared to dream
Now I challenge you - dare to dream!

Thinking About Freelancing?
Here’s What You Need To Know
by Ruth Daniels
Every third person I meet chats with me about Freelancing and their opinion of it
to them it’s the quickest way to make money! Now as a freelancer, I know that it’s not that easy Let’s unpack what you need to know about freelancing
I must say it is the second hardest thing I have ever done - after becoming a mom, that is It’s literally like raising a child, and although my business is only 4 years old, it still has a long road ahead
As a freelancer in the social media field for 4 years and counting, the only way that I got this far was by remembering why I started You must have your goals written out, to remind you on the challenging days why you started
Growing a business on social media is easy (in my biased opinion) but running a business is the challenging part, especially when you have had no prior experience in managing a business. It’s the financial aspects of balancing sheets, paying workers, paying tools, and, of course, paying yourself that can seem daunting.
What helped me to stay focused on running and growing my business was the following:
Keeping A List Of Things That You Want To Achieve And Updating It Regularly
It’s surprising to see how many goals you can achieve when you put your mind to it. One of the things that I wrote about on my goals list was to buy a car, and 2 years later I bought a car. It was a refreshing feeling ticking off those goals as I went along and adding others to it.

Know Your Why
As mentioned previously, running a business without prior experience or knowledge feels daunting; there will be days when you ask yourself why! And days where you are head over heels for what it is that you are doing. The key here is to keep focus and write down your why. What kept me going for the past 4 years was the fact that I wanted to spend more time with my daughter and be able to have flexible working hours so that I could drop her off and pick her up from school, amongst other things Know your why and have this staring at your every day I promise it helps
Have A Plan
Write down what exactly it is that you are going to do – sell a product or service – and have a plan of execution. Think about what your target audience is going to look like. Think about how much revenue it is that you are going to make. Consider how much profit you want to walk away with monthly, so that you can see how much you need to sell/ or charge for your services or products.
Get To Know Marketing
You honestly don’t need to know everything Just start off small Start off by thinking about what channels you need to be on Is it TikTok, or is it LinkedIn? The answers to that would depend on your business goals and your target audiences Invest in social tools such as scheduling tools so that automation is part of your day to day I would suggest choosing 1-2 platforms at first and then add on other platforms to increase your online exposure.
Freelancing takes hard work and patience and, honestly speaking, isn’t for everybody and that is okay. Think about whether freelancing is for you –before you start trying it out. If you are interested in learning about becoming a social media freelancer, check out my social media profiles.
