When I realized medication could not cure the constant and debilitating anxiety, I added healing tools to my toolbox, and it made all the difference.

A Spiritual Perspective for Strength and Healing

The topic of mental health can sound very clinical. Doctors and mental health professionals abound in their advice, diagnosis, and prognosis And it can be easy to get lost in the midst of a mental health decline, unclear how to move forward, or how to turn the cycle of pain and anguish into wellness and empowerment. There can be so much shame around having a panic attack, not knowing why we feel 'off', or knowing we feel triggered beyond the norm, yet being unable to stop the devastating and overwhelming thoughts, emotions, and body sensations. While following a doctor’s advice is important, there are other tools and explorations that can bring much relief and healing beyond medication and talk therapy.

It is of course important to seek proper medical support, but after your mental health

stabilizes, there is often a void that remains despite the gratitude to be feeling better This is where the spiritual perspective can be most healing and supportive When I realized medication could not cure the constant and debilitating anxiety, I added healing tools to my toolbox, and it made all the difference.

According to many healing modalities and traditions, anxiety and depression are a sign from the soul that your spirit is trying to get your attention Depression can be a deep sadness of the soul, one that can be released over time with deep, nourishing soul care, changes in patterns of behaviour or unfulfilling work, and developing the skills to listen to your soul.

Here are the top five things you can do to turn the downward spiral of mental health decline around >>

Prevention is always better than intervention

When it comes to your mental health, physical fitness and a health-conscious lifestyle always help As we have seen when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, it is always better to be in our strong and resilient zone than allow a state of sub-optimal mental health to continue without seeking the proper support at the earliest signs

Give yourself the time and resources to stabilize your condition I personally experienced my ups and downs with anxiety, and I know there are times and experiences that can suddenly make it acute. All it takes is one sudden event, and we can feel thrown into the deep end overnight When in the acute stages, it is particularly important to work with a qualified mental health professional to stabilize your mental health Seeking help is in no way a sign of weakness, even if it is due to a relapse The kindest thing you can do for yourself is to have selfcompassion amid your suffering. You do not need to see the entire journey from the start Take the journey one step at a time until your body and mind are able to see and plan more long-term again.

Remove toxic people from your life

In fact, give yourself permission to let go of all that is toxic. Unkind habits, compulsions, addictions, anything that keeps you in a repetitive pattern of chronic stress, isolation, and pain. And that includes people and jobs. Statistics show the staggering health costs of workplace harassment, bullying, and incivility. In some environments, these things are tolerated, and normalized And it can be scary to leave a job even if it’s hurting your health. But do not allow the fear of losing income to be the only factor you consider. Your health is also wealth, and without it, you may not be able to work At the very least, get the resources to strengthen yourself internally until you can leave. Whether it is in your personal life, or your work life, you never need to tolerate and accept being abused Ever

Unlocking Authentic Empowerment

Empowerment is like the frosé of personal development - it's everywhere, and everyone's talking about it But what does it really mean to be empowered? Contrary to popular belief, It's not just about “doing anything you set your mind to” or “using positive thinking to solve all your problems,” it's about taking control of your life and environment in a way that feels authentic and fulfilling to you.

This is an essential aspect of our overall wellbeing, and authentic empowerment can play a significant role in improving it When we feel empowered, we have a greater sense of control over our lives, which can lead to increased self-esteem, self-confidence, and resilience This, in turn, can lead to improved mental health outcomes such as reduced stress, anxiety, and depression.

Now, let's talk about the difference between authentic and false empowerment Authentic empowerment is like that perfect, little black dress that you can wear anywhere and always feel confident in. It's rooted in your internal sense of self-awareness, self-efficacy, and values

"Takingcontrol ofyourlifeand environmentina waythatfeels authenticand fulfillingtoyou."
THEPOWERWITHIN
EMPOWERMENT 16 / WOMEN THRIVE

False empowerment, on the other hand, is like a cheap, knock-off purse that might look good from a distance, but ultimately falls apart and leaves you feeling unsatisfied It's based on external factors like status, material possessions, or social validation, which can be fleeting and ultimately unsatisfying.

Cultivating personal empowerment is like putting together the perfect outfit - it can take time and effort, but the end result is totally worth it.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Reflect on your values, strengths, weaknesses, and goals

This might involve journaling, meditating, or talking to a professional Whatever it takes, get to know yourself and be honest about your thoughts and feelings

Invest in yourself

Empowerment often involves gaining new skills and knowledge. Whether it's learning a new language, taking up a creative hobby, or advancing your career, investing time, energy, and resources in yourself can increase your sense of control and influence. Start where you are

Connect with others

Authentically empowered women recognize the interconnectedness of all beings Building meaningful relationships with others can help you feel more connected and supported and creates a safe space for showing up as your true self. This might involve joining an online community, volunteering for a cause you care about, or simply reaching out to friends and family members for support and connection.>>

Heal from your past

According to the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, 70% of adults in the U.S have experienced some type of traumatic event at least once in their lives. Most of us are walking around with unresolved wounds that sabotage us and limit our ability to feel in control of our lives Working with someone to thrive beyond past trauma can help improve self-esteem and confidence, and enable you to experience more fulfillment.

Take aligned action

At the end of the day, authentic empowerment is about using your voice and resources to influence positive change in the world. This means advocating for yourself, honoring your needs, and taking daily action that aligns with your personal goals and values.

Empowerment isn't just a buzzword - it's a way of life. Becoming authentically empowered impacts our mental wellbeing by giving us a greater sense of control and agency over our lives To cultivate authentic empowerment, it's important to show up like a woman who knows her worth. This means, developing self-awareness, investing in yourself, cultivating healthy relationships, healing from past trauma, and taking aligned action.

So, if you're ready to take control of your life and live authentically empowered, start by following the steps in this article. The world is yours for the taking

Shedding Light on the Mental Health Blindspot THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND

Ihad been in the thick of yet another bout of insomnia bordering on manic doing homework months in advance to pass the time, running on empty. That night, I had a passive, conscious thought. So I asked a faithful ally at the time, Google, typing, ‘Do I have an eating disorder?’ into the search bar.

Before long, I found myself stumbling into an on-campus meeting about eating disorders, completely panicked, lost, and alone. My attendance that day was informed by the wise, conscious, choosing brain. But despite what I learned, I remained an obedient victim to the voices in my head and out of options, thanks to the involuntary and dominant subconscious

This is a part of my story, but it’s not solely mine See, every 52 minutes, someone loses their life to their eating disorder In fact, eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses When coupled with other comorbidities like depression, anxiety, and/or PTSD mental illness is the perfect storm of chronic woundedness and agonizing, unresolved questions: Why? What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I fix this? Why can’t I just feel better?

Mental illness is the invisible struggle of invisible wounds, yet a whopping 298 million people struggle with anxiety worldwide, followed

closely by 246 million who battle depression. These numbers are unacceptable and could easily shift with greater implementation of root cause healing using the subconscious mind. Though the brain can be summarized with a simple statistic it’s 5% conscious, 95% subconscious the current mental healthcare system neglects the latter This is not a ploy to substitute or replace the current model, but simply to include (and build) other and more effective integrative ones The mental health conversation cannot (and should not) happen without looking at both the benefits and limitations of current protocols and systems As it currently stands, mental illness is conventionally treated by and through a Western lens And while the Western system is absolutely appropriate at times, it’s also notorious for treating symptoms, not root causes Additionally, Western medicine is diagnostic in nature Again, while this structure is helpful in moments, it can further complicate our relationships with ourselves, others, and the world at large For that, Western medicine should always be an option, but perhaps not emphasized as the only option

HowSharingYourStory CanChangeYourLife

Nearly a billion people are suffering from mental health disorders worldwide.

From the outside looking in many wouldn’t know that I’ve struggled with my mental health for as long as I can remember I look happy, “successful” and full of life. I post pictures of my husband and three kids. I dress my cat up for photo shoots in my backyard I share periodic photos of the hair salon I have owned for 11 years and video clips of my family and me traveling around the world. I even did a TEDx talk. I look like I have it all together. The truth is I am very happy (most of the time) I love my life, and at the same time I still have mental health challenges… Looks can be deceiving and mental health is often invisible.

There are so many different types of mental illnesses and I am one of the 280 million people in the world who suffers from depression Everyone’s journey is unique and there are many methods of healing or managing these diseases. What works for one person often does not work for another.

Multiple things have helped me along my journey I tried yoga, spiritual practices, exercise, journaling, therapy, dietary changes, and more. All of those things helped me. However, I found the most healing when I embraced my truth and shared my story.

According to Psychology Today, there is power in sharing our stories, even the things we may feel are taboo. What does sharing your story mean? It could be open conversations with family and friends, a blog, writing a book, podcast interviews, or speaking on stages all over the world. There is no right or wrong way to embrace your truth and share it with others.

Acceptance

The more I opened up about the things I have been through, the more acceptance I gained for myself and others. I was able to see how my challenges shaped who I am and in turn gave me many gifts I could not see at the time (strength, perseverance, and empathy among others).

My first suicide attempt was when I was nine years old, and my second attempt aged 16 My challenges continued and escalated into full-blown addiction and homelessness by the time I was in my teens. A lot of things happened along that journey that I was not proud of and, for a long time, I tortured myself with those memories. Once I accepted that I couldn’t change the past so I might as well embrace it, my whole life changed

The energy we give ourselves often extends to other people as well. So as I removed the need to be perfect, I unconsciously gave others the same grace. We are all moving through life, doing the best we can. With that perspective, I literally felt a weight lifted off my shoulders

Challenge:

Begin a gratitude journal

Writing down all the things you are grateful for will help you accept all the layers of your journey.

STORYTELLING
22 / WOMEN THRIVE
"I found the most healing when I embraced my truth and shared my story."

Challenge:

Think about one thing in your life that you overcame and share it with another person It could be through a social media post, phone call, or 1-1 conversation.

Empowerment

I realized my own strength when I overcame things I never thought I could and survived situations that almost broke me. I reached a new level of empowerment when I learned to stand unapologetically in my truth

I remember the first time I stood in front of a room full of people and opened up about some of my most personal experiences. I was absolutely terrified. However, when I finished I felt a strength I had never known I had fully accepted my past and it didn’t matter what anyone else thought.

But you know what’s amazing? People are almost always rooting for you. You will usually be met with warmth, kindness, and encouragement when you share your personal story.

Opportunities

Most new chapters start with a yes. Yes to new experiences, yes to being vulnerable, and yes to seeing where life will take you. I have seen so many lives changed when they said yes to sharing their stories. In turn, they helped others overcome their own challenges

A client of mine went through my 90 Day Book Writing Challenge and wrote two books in our time together. One day, we were on the phone and she broke down in tears telling me how amazing it felt to speak her truth. It was a healing journey for her and her own gift to the world.

I said yes to sharing my story and it led to me writing a book, speaking on stages, and connecting with women all over the world.

I was absolutely terrified but said yes to telling very intimate parts of my life on one of the biggest stages in the world. My 1st TEDx- 3 Keys To Being Unstoppable came out recently.

I’d like to ask you- what part of yourself have you been hiding? What part of your story would you like to share with the world? And finally, where could saying yes take you?

REIKI (PRONOUNCED RAY-KEY) IS AN ANCIENT PRACTICE OF HOLISTIC HEALING THAT PROMOTES WHOLENESS, BALANCE, HARMONY, AND CONSCIOUSNESS

It is a Japanese technique involving energy healing to balance the mind, body, and spirit. By releasing any blockages and promoting a feeling of calm and relaxation, Reiki can help to alleviate the adverse effects of anxiety and depression and enhance wellbeing.

Enhancing Emotional Healing

Emotional wounds can be just as crippling as physical injuries and can significantly impact an individual's mental health. People can easily see the hurt when someone experiences a bodily injury, like a broken leg. Unfortunately, people often ignore emotional wounds because they are not as visible or tangible and tend to be overlooked or brushed aside, despite their substantial impact on a person's wellbeing.

Reiki can be a helpful tool for emotional healing, allowing you to release past traumas and move forward with a more positive perspective Reiki is beautiful for healing emotional wounds because it gently and noninvasively works its way through, ensuring that it causes no harm while going where intended

Another fantastic way Reiki can aid your mental health is that Reiki's healing energy can help free negative emotions and thoughts, allowing you to experience more joy, peace, and contentment.

Every day, since she was very young, she dressed in the same outfit As she grew, the outfit grew with her It was comfortable, familiar, she knew how to wear it and it pleased everyone around her Seeing others' delight encouraged her to wear it more and more Despite it occasionally causing her distress, pain, and upset, she continued to wear it for the benefit of others It was a powerful outfit

It prevented her from seeking her own goals and desires and still, it adorned her every single day Sometimes, on very rare occasions, if she was feeling brave, she would try on another outfit, only to be met with resentment and frustration by others and so she would resort back to what others liked It was a powerful cloak This cloak is known as the people-pleasing cloak It is quite popular in society and is traditionally more often found among the women of the world

I wore that people-pleasing cloak daily for many, many years I wore it so well, that I honestly thought I could never take it off It was who I was, it was part of me, or so I thought I had been a people pleaser for as long as I could remember, perhaps from about five or six years old It felt so natural to me I did not know how else to be

Then in 2018, when I was having therapy to rid myself of people pleasing I was challenged to start saying no to other people’s requests That first time saying no was unbelievably uncomfortable My stomach churned, I was wringing my hands, my heart was racing, and my throat was dry I took a deep breath, uttered the word no, and waited for the response I honestly don’t think that the word no was even in my vocabulary Of course, in a typical people-pleasing style, I had been overthinking their reaction In case you’re wondering, when I said no that first time, their response was ‘Oh, ok, no worries ’

As a lifelong people-pleaser, it was hard for me to take off that cloak and, if I am honest, I find myself occasionally, inadvertently wearing it again However, I have developed my awareness and I now know when I have slipped back into it and immediately take it off and remind myself that it no longer fits the woman I am today

When was the last time you told someone ‘No, I can’t do that’, or ‘I have a different idea?’

I understand if it feels risky I dodged it because doing so would leave me feeling vulnerable, concerned that I would be seen as being difficult and I had a strong desire to be liked, to fit in, and to belong

MINDSET 26 / WOMEN THRIVE

It was only a few years ago I discovered that adopting the disease to please meant that I was sacrificing myself, my goals, my dreams, and my plans It was self-sabotage at its finest Deep down, I guess I knew all along because I was becoming increasingly frustrated at the demands placed on me and yet it was a clue that I ignored for so long Are you doing the same? Are you thinking too much about others and their needs and feelings and much less about yourself? Of course, we do need to think of others, this isn’t about being completely selfish Other people are important but so are you We need to stop suppressing our own wants, needs, and desires for the benefit of others

We all have needs

Are you ready to step out of the confines of people-pleasing? Are you ready to say goodbye to the good girl? Are you ready to rise as an empowered woman? Are you ready to use your voice and regain your power?

Ladies, grab your journal and write these questions down and let your answers flow

If you were not afraid of what others will think, say, or do, what would you do?

What would this mean to you?

How can you balance your needs and the needs of others?

What stops you from asserting yourself?

How will you comfort yourself if others dislike what you say/do?

How will your relationships change with yourself and others as you begin this new way

OvercomeNegativeSelf-Perception byTappinginto

Your Inner Game of Success

This article is inspired by Timothy Gallwey’s The Inner Game of Work

The biggest obstacle we face as humans and entrepreneurs is a negative self-perception It is how we perceive ourselves that determines how we perform in life and in business and gives us permission to choose what to do or not do. Take note of this: Negative self-perception is a larger obstacle than money or timing.

We must improve and then fuel our positive self-perception

Even if we have limited resources and time, when we see ourselves as capable and worthy, we view every situation as an opportunity to rise to the challenge. Those challenges help us reach our potential If we have a clear enough vision we are working towards, we will maximize two hours a week and use it to our advantage. If we believe we can change the world by writing, we will find the time to put those words on paper

If we think we can change the world by starting a non-profit, we will find the time to bring it to fruition.

Working on how we view ourselves is the key Affirmations from others don’t permanently reframe how we think about ourselves. External voices can encourage us but that will only provide a temporary disposition. When we see ourselves as capable and powerful, we can live out the vision we see for ourselves with or without external motivation

We can change our self-perceptions

To change the negative thinking, we first need to understand the conflict of our Inner Game described by Timothy Gallwey author of The Inner Game of Work. Self-1 is the conscious mind, “the teller”, who gives direction Self-2 is “the doer”, the subconscious mind that completes the goals. Ninety-nine percent of our actions are controlled by Self-2.

The conflict arises when Self-1 doesn’t trust Self-2 It’s called selfsabotage for a reason Our inner selves compete internally for control. Self-2 says it’s time to take action, but Self-1 says, “I don’t have enough time or resources I’m not smart enough, etc ” This is why understanding and leaning into our Inner Game is so important! It is the key to improving our self-esteem.

SELF-PERCEPTION
28 / WOMEN THRIVE

Removing the interference will help us reach our peak performance

Timothy Gallwey articulated this so well when he broke it down in The Inner Game of Tennis He described in four steps how we can change our self-perception.

Step 1: Observe existing behavior BUT from a non-judgmental place

Step 2: Picture a desired outcome, through mindfulness without fear and doubt, of your peak performance potential.

Step 3: Let it happen! Trust Self-2, the doer When the doer and the teller trust each other, you will begin to succeed.

Step 4: Practice not judging yourself through all the steps. Calmly observe what you’ve been able to do

What obstacles did you run into? What recurring patterns or thoughts have been a part of success or failure? Address these from a position of development and growth and keep growing.

The Inner Game formula: Performance = Potentialinterference

As women, we wear so many hats We show up in the world as career-driven women, entrepreneurs, wives, mothers, daughters, students, and friends, yet we can be filled with self-doubt or overly critical of ourselves because we can’t seem to juggle it all The Inner Game can teach us how to navigate our inner ecosystem.

If we look at an area that is not going well, like family life, education, entrepreneurship, etc , we can identify the beliefs and interferences in each area. Interferences like procrastination, making excuses, overthinking, lack of patience, and discouragement chip away at our ability to reach peak performance. We don’t have to live with the negative results of those interferences. We can observe what is happening and make intentional changes that will eventually become part of our inner ecosystem.

As entrepreneurs, we should focus on being courageous and giving ourselves permission to learn through failure The Inner Game teaching is about learning how to live in the present. Rather than allowing the history of failure to influence our choices today, we must focus on the now, show up, and move forward Michael Jordan missed many shots before he became “Air Jordan ” Steve Jobs was fired from Apple, but then returned and took that company further than anyone imagined. As entrepreneurs, we must have the resilience to keep moving forward

For example, I had a child at 15. I can’t beat myself up over how I raised my first child or compare the teen mom I was to the mother I was at 26 I gave myself permission to see how I’d grown as a mother. Letting go of the interference helped me see clearly that I am worthy of the love of my children This was a game-changer for me Now, I am living in the present moment, not in my past mistakes. I have an interferencefree mind because of my faith and these Inner Game principles >>

WOMEN THRIVE / 29
"As entrepreneurs, we should focus on being courageous and giving ourselves permission to learn through failure."

When we change our negative selfperceptions, the result is inner stability

We can’t let our inner selves stop our outer selves. Where there is conflict, there is chaos. When we can reduce or eliminate conflict, we will have more peace, and therefore productivity and progress that supports the type of success that we were always created to achieve.

Inner peace opens up opportunities for us We can overcome anything and be more productive by showing up every day and being present. A lot of people don’t realize their dreams because they are holding themselves hostage to the last time they tried and didn’t succeed The Inner Game gives us the freedom to start over, to try again. We are worth a million tries.

The bottom line with the Inner Game is this: if we want to increase our output (aka, our success), we need to ensure that our internal foundation is solid. An Inner Game is exactly the type of foundation that we need to build true and authentic success.

Have you ever been scrolling through Instagram or TikTok and found yourself watching reel after reel of women living the ‘perfect’ life, running the ‘perfect’ home, raising angelic children, working six-figure, stay-at-home jobs, and making their own cereal all with perfect hair, makeup, and nails? And has an hour of scrolling left you feeling completely inadequate as you look around your home with pots on the side, never-ending laundry, a maze of toy dinosaurs and Lego to navigate, working in a job that you do mainly because it pays the mortgage (just)?

Yeah, me too. Sat wondering how these women manage to ‘have it all’ without so much as a blemish on their skin while I’m running around like a headless chicken trying to make sure we don't run out of milk and bread on the daily, breastfeeding a newborn, lucky if I’ve managed a shower at all this week Media pressure has forced women for generations to present a facade of perfection

The introduction of social media has exacerbated this need for apparent perfection and our need for external validation. Now, intimate details of our lives can be presented with whatever bias we choose to a worldwide audience for them to comment on unreservedly from their own perspective

No wonder the majority of us only want to present absolute perfection

However, the InstaPerfect women are (largely) fictional creatures, and believing they are presenting permanently attainable standards is hugely damaging the psyche of the average woman ‘Average’ is a term that has come to have negative connotations and has become synonymous with terms such as ‘mediocre’ or ‘sub-par’ but in actual fact, the definition of ‘average’ is as follows: Average: noun - an amount, standard, level, or rate regarded as usual or ordinary. Qualities that are seen as typical of a particular person, group, or thing. A value midway between two extremes

The truth is, life is hard Whether you had a good upbringing or a challenging one, whether you are single or in a relationship, whether you work or not, have kids or not - life is hard And that’s ok That’s NORMAL. Maybe it shouldn’t be, it would be nice if life was easy, but it's hard and that’s normal. Why are we making it even harder for ourselves by setting unattainable standards for each other and dragging each other down when we seem to fail to reach those standards? Why are we pretending that all our lives are InstaPerfect in a cycle of toxic femininity and criticising the way other women are living theirs?

SOCIAL MEDIA
38 / WOMEN THRIVE

It’s time to support each other in our struggle to keep it together and normalise the normal Here are 10 things I learned in my struggle (and failure) to achieve perfection

1 It’s ok to work, it’s ok to be a stay-at-home mum, and it’s ok to work when you have kids No justification for either option is required, it’s just ok

2 There will always be pots to wash

3 Kids have tantrums - and Sod’s law dictates they are more likely to have them in a public place or in the middle of that important Zoom meeting

4 We all will have freckles, or cellulite, or wrinkles, or grey hair, or stretch marks, or some loose skin - or in my case, all of the above I’ve had two kids and my body has done a remarkable thing, but it has taken a toll on my body and I’m not going to apologise for that to anyone I’m simply going to buy bigger jeans

5. Nothing is certain, except death, taxes, and laundry. If you’re one of the women that can’t wear the same outfit twice - it’s time to invest in a washing machine and stop feeding the pockets of the fashion industry. Unless you work in couture fashion, no one really cares what you’re wearing providing it’s appropriate. I highly recommend trialing a capsule wardrobe - it's amazing how less really is more. You can get a lot of outfit variations from a simple capsule wardrobe and getting dressed will become effortless.

6 Normal houses have marks on the wall and shoes by the door By all means, redecorate regularly, wipe the walls down, and have plenty of storage (if your modern new build allows for it) but it’s perfectly normal to have shoes by the door

7 We are all getting older There has been a lot of noise lately about the difference in media representation of celebrities embracing signs of aging. George Clooney was celebrated for becoming a silver fox whereas Andie MacDowell was condemned. God forbid a woman ages at all. Kudos to Andie and all the others for embracing their natural selves

8 We are a long way off from true gender equality

To be honest, I’m not sure we will ever achieve it In order for there to be true equality, we would need to acknowledge that differences between the genders aren’t opportunities for superiority. In addition, the insecurities that the current ‘balance’ impresses upon both genders pay into multi-billion dollar industries.

9 ‘This too shall pass’ (Abraham Lincoln) It was in my 30th year that I found comfort in this phrase I used to always say ‘nothing lasts forever’ but I learned the hard way I was inviting negativity into my life at every turn Now, instead, I have the attitude that ‘this too shall pass’ and I apply it to all circumstances, both good and bad. It reminds me that the bad times will pass and to enjoy the good times while they last. Another good one I use in times of stress or disappointment is ‘it is what it is’. When you understand both phrases, you will obtain a level of emotional resilience that is very powerful

10 None of us have it 100 percent figured out We are all making it up as we go along, trying our best and learning as we go Social media perfection is just the staged highlights we display to try and fool ourselves into thinking we have it all sorted. Don’t fall into the trap.

4 Tiny Habits to Break Your

Ialways knew that I wanted to write a book I have loved writing all my life and figured it would be easy. As I got closer to completing the first few chapters, I started finding reasons not to work on the book. It was always so easy to put it off until 'later'. When I submitted my first draft to the editors, and got their feedback, my procrastination became ever more pronounced.

We all occasionally put off doing something. When waiting becomes a habit and pattern in our lives, it becomes a problem.

I don't feel like …

I don't want to …

I'll

do it tomorrow…

With the demanding and busy lives that many of us women have, these phrases naturally come out of our mouths sometimes! Especially when faced with a challenging task to be done.

Procrastination happens to everyone, even those who are highly productive. Throughout my life, like many business owners, I have been known to suffer from procrastination. In the last few years, however, I have made great strides in overcoming this behavior.

In my journey to become a more productive person, I began to gain the ability to recognize procrastination and the excuses that would creep up from time to time when a deadline was looming. Learning to beat procrastination using a calculated approach that included understanding why I procrastinate. Then, applying strategies to overcome and beat it!

Procrastination is more than just poor time management or laziness. It often comes from negative emotions that keep us hostage from taking action. People put things off because they're not in the right mood. Then they distract themselves with other tasks. Then when they realize their avoidance, feelings of guilt arise for wasting so much time. Your mood worsens because you feel guilty. Your task deadline gets closer. The cycle makes you feel worse.

""It keeps us hostage from taking action."

Why Do We Procrastinate?

Fear of failure: Many people procrastinate because they are afraid of failing They may feel that if they don't try, they can't fail, so they put off taking action

Lack of motivation: When people don't feel motivated to do something, they may procrastinate instead of forcing themselves

to take action

Overwhelm: When faced with a large or complex task, it can be easy to become overwhelmed and unsure where to start This can lead to procrastination

Perfectionism: People with high standards may procrastinate because they want to do things perfectly They may feel it's only worth doing something if they can do something perfectly Distractions: In today's world, many distractions can lead to procrastination, such as social media, TV, and video games

Step 1: Identify the Task You Want to Complete

The first step in using the Tiny Habits method to overcome procrastination is identifying the task you want to complete This could be anything from writing a report to cleaning the house Once you have identified the task, break it down into smaller, more manageable steps

Step 2: Choose a Tiny Habit

Next, choose a tiny habit related to the task you want to complete This should be something that is easy to do and doesn't take a lot of time For example, if you want to write a report, your tiny habit could be to write one sentence If you want to clean the house, your tiny habit could be to put away one item

Step 3: Anchor the Habit to an Existing Routine

The next step is to anchor your tiny habit to an existing routine This means choosing a time and place to make your tiny habit that is already part of your daily routine For example, if you want to write a report, you could write one sentence after opening up your computer for the first time in the morning If you want to clean the house, you can put away one item whenever you walk into a room

Step 4: Celebrate Your Success

Shortly after completing my book, I knew that I wanted to continue to overcome my procrastinating tendencies After reading Tiny Habits by Dr BJ Fogg, I became a certified Tiny Habits Coach with the goal of stopping procrastination in its tracks The Tiny Habits method is a simple and effective way to break bad habits and create new, positive ones Developed by BJ Fogg, a behavior scientist at Stanford University, the method involves starting with small, easy-to-do habits that can be built upon over time. Here are the steps to using the Tiny Habits method to overcome procrastination:

Finally, celebrate your success every time you complete your tiny habit This could be as simple as saying "Good job!" to yourself or doing a little happy dance By celebrating your success, you reinforce the habit and make it more likely that you will continue doing it

Over time, you can build upon your tiny habit and make it bigger and more challenging For example, start by writing one sentence and gradually increase to writing a paragraph or a page By starting small and building up gradually, you will find that you too can overcome procrastination, leading to confidence in all areas of your life. I’m not here to convince you whether you’re a good parent or not I am here to convince you that it is possible for your child to be confident, authentic, and fulfilled!

I am here to tell you that I am living proof of a child who struggled with confidence who struggled with limiting beliefs, self-doubt, wanting to give up, thinking I’m not good enough… According to Dictionary.com, purpose is “the reason for which something exists” and my definition is, “Your reason to exist is to give God glory”.

So what type of parent do you want to be?

Would you like to be a parent that partners alongside your child to guide them in discovering their purpose? Would you like to be a parent who not just notices but appreciates the gifts, talents, and abilities of your child and will do everything in your power to enhance their full potential? OR would like to be a parent who allows their child to simply get by in life Once they achieve good grades, then they’re successful in your book? Have you ever thought about what activities make your child feel alive? What type of character do you want to instill in them today? What gifts, talents & skillsets do you want to see them soar in?

As the parent, isn’t it part of your job description to meet these needs? We all know that children want to be loved, and appreciated and have their basic needs met. But what about being the force of nature that ACTUALLY spends quality time with your child; connecting, bonding, and listening to their hearts? Instead of just picking them up from school, asking them about their grades, driving them to their extra-curricular activities, and doing it all over again for the next four days without a personal connection or bonding moments

To tell you the truth, raising children today is harder than ever. They are faced with being on screens all day long, whether it be their phone, the TV, the iPhone, their iPad, video games, or a Gameboy And once on their screens, especially if they are on social media, they are prone to comparing themselves and their lives to friends and even complete strangers

Some of our children also struggle with negative body image, poor and unhealthy thoughts, and emotions such as Guilt, Loneliness, Anger, Sadness, and Shame (GLASS)

But what if there was a way your child can push through these negative emotions and become the superhero that’s inside of them waiting to be unleashed?

Parents…how do you raise a child to be confident by overcoming limiting beliefs and self-doubt?

1 / Encourage a Growth Mindset

This is the belief that one's abilities and intelligence can be developed through effort and learning Encouraging your child to adopt a growth mindset can help them overcome self-doubt and limiting beliefs. Praise your child's effort and progress, rather than just their achievements Teach them to view mistakes as learning opportunities and encourage them to persist through challenges.

2 / Foster Self-Awareness

Do this by helping them identify their strengths and weaknesses. This will help them understand that they are capable of improvement and can take steps to develop their skills and abilities Encourage them to try new things, explore different interests, and provide positive feedback and support along the way.

3 / Be a Positive Role Model

Children learn by example, so it's important to model positive behaviors and attitudes towards oneself. Avoid making negative self-comments or engaging in self-criticism in front of your child Instead, model selfacceptance and self-compassion.

How

do you raise a child to be authentic by beginning their adventure in discovering & identifying their identity?

1 / Encourage Self-Discovery

Help your child explore their interests and passions. Expose them to a variety of experiences and let them decide what resonates with them. Encourage them to try new things and take risks without fear of failure Provide them with the tools and resources they need to explore their interests and develop their skills.

2 / Emphasize Values

Help your child develop a strong set of values by discussing the importance of honesty, integrity, empathy, kindness, and respect for others. Encourage them to live according to their values and to stand up for what they believe in Teach them to make ethical and moral decisions based on their values.

3/ Create a Supportive Environment

Do this while teaching your child boundaries, respect for others, and the necessity for proper corrective discipline. In this environment, help them to keep trying and pushing through even if they fail, as we know failure is part of the life experience, so during these times we must ensure to coach them to get back up and to try again. If they learn this early, it is the hardships that shape good character. >>

Help your child understand the importance of serving others and making a positive impact in their world. Encourage them to find ways to use their talents and skills to help others and make a difference in their community. Volunteer together as a family and encourage them to get involved in service projects that align with their interests

3 / Help Them Connect with Jesus

Lastly, how do you raise a child to be fulfilled by guiding them to live the rest of their life pursuing their God-given purpose and be the solution to the problem they were called to solve?

We are each born with a special purpose and the talents and passion for bringing that purpose to fruition If we don't do everything in our power to see those passions translate into reality, then we rob ourselves and the rest of the world of the beauty that only we can create

To me, being an entrepreneur means finding that drive within yourself to bring something powerful to life. It’s about being inspired by what you do Developing an entrepreneurial mindset is a practice, like yoga or ballet The more you flex your mindset muscles, the nimbler and more natural your responses become.

Any practice is based on exercises Ten exercises have supercharged my business and those of my coaching clients. You have nothing to lose by putting these hacks into practice to change your mindset and supercharge your business

1.) Believe in Yourself

You need to believe in yourself and your ideas. This may sound obvious, but it is crucial to get right because your beliefs hold significant power When you are confident in your vision, you operate in a way that will bring it to life and you are prepared to take risks because you believe in your ideas.

Developing an Entrepreneurial Mindset

2.) Think Big

Yes! Great entrepreneurs are not afraid to think big! Big does not necessarily mean money What success means to one person may mean something completely different to somebody else Thinking big means pushing your fears to the side and daring to pursue that dream business without allowing any excuse to hold you back.

3.) Focus

Big ideas require focus When you're pursuing an exciting new business venture, achieving a high level of focus is crucial for your success. The first part of this is eliminating distractions, procrastination, and excuses There will always be one billion reasons why you shouldn't start Behind that procrastination is fear. You're delaying action because the outcome feels scary or daunting. Learn to notice this quickly and pivot back to the main goal

4.) Make Quick Decisions

Emotions can become tangled up in our decisions. Successful entrepreneurs avoid emotion-driven decision-making Emotions are certainly a part of life, but when it comes to decisions, they can slow the process and hinder progress. >>

Entrepreneurs must act quickly, even if they do not feel ready. They trade a bit of discomfort in the hope that they produce something their target audience finds new, fresh, and daring

5.) Trust Your Gut

Albert Einstein, one of the most brilliant scientific minds, said, "The only real valuable thing is intuition " Learning to trust that inner wisdom is crucial to finding business success. Learn to be comfortable not having all the facts in front of you. Follow your gut instinct and let that guide you on your path

6.) Protect Your Time

The next step in developing an entrepreneurial mindset is to learn to value and protect your time As they say, time is money, and that's a big reason why I encourage entrepreneurs to conquer procrastination and eliminate distractions.

7.) Ask How You Can Provide Value to Others

Instead of asking how your business can serve you, ask how you can provide value for others. President John F Kennedy famously said: "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."

These aren't just good words for a political leader to live by; they are crucial for entrepreneurs as well Great businesses are not self-centered They focus on how to solve a customer's problem and make the target consumer the center of their focus. Great entrepreneurs never stop asking this question and always yearn to increase the value they offer their clients, team members, and business partners.

8.) Conduct Regular Mental Check-Ins

Ensure while you are providing value to others in your business that you don’t forget to periodically check in with yourself It's easy to think that you have entirely nailed the entrepreneurial mindset, but some behaviors or thoughts are sure to trip you up now and again. Check your mindset regularly. Sit down and ask yourself if you are focused. What is motivating you? Do you feel as confident as you could in your day-to-day decisions?

9.) See Failure as an Opportunity for Growth

When failures happen, see them as opportunities to learn and grow Entrepreneurs rarely achieve success without a few setbacks along the way, and if they let that stop them, they would never see success.

10.) Keep Your Eye on The Prize

Moving one inch a day is better than standing still If you keep your vision in sight, you can stay motivated enough to persevere through anything. Steve Jobs once said, "I'm convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance

Unless you have a lot of passion for this, you're not going to survive. You're going to give it up. So, you've got to have an idea, or a problem, or a wrong that you want to right that you're passionate about; otherwise, you're not going to have the perseverance to stick it through." Every time things get tough, redirect your eye toward the core reasons you started this endeavor in the first place.

Whether you are an entrepreneur in a slump, or a person with a big idea and the passion to power it, you can develop the mindset to become a successful entrepreneur filled with pride and purpose. Become stronger than the fears that limit you and achieve bigger success than you have imagined
