Tynecastle to host Cup Final It has been announced that the 2019 SSE Scottish Women's Cup Final will be held at the home of Heart of Midlothian FC. Tynecastle Park, which has previously hosted Scotland Women's National Team matches, will hold the final for the first time in its history on Sunday 24th November.

Scottish Women's Football's Executive Officer, Fiona McIntyre, said: "We're delighted to be hosting the final here at Tynecastle. We've been working closely with Heart of Midlothian and they've been very supportive. They have invested in their girls' and women's section in recent times and their values align closely with our own in terms of their ambition to see the girls' and women's game flourish in Scotland, so it's a brilliant fit all round."

SSE's Head of Sponsorship and Reward, Colin Banks, said: "The final of the SSE Scottish Women's Cup is deserving of a venue that matches the ambition of the women's game and Tynecastle epitomises that.

"Hearts too are actively developing the women's game, and the appointment of Manchester City's Kevin Murphy as Girls Academy & Women's Manager underlines their commitment to nurturing and attracting the best talent."

Heart of Midlothian's Girls Academy & Women's Manager, Kevin Murphy, said: "It's a great honour for everyone at Heart of Midlothian Football Club to be hosting this year's SSE Scottish Cup Final. With our Girls and Women's teams set to become fully integrated into the club in November, hosting a game of this magnitude generates even more excitement, not just at Hearts, but across the entire women's game."

Last year the SSE Scottish Women's Cup had a record attendance of 1,943 at Firhill Stadium for the Final between Hibernian and Motherwell. The record attendance has been broken every year since SSE started its sponsorship in 2016 and McIntyre hopes this will continue.

"We had just under 2,000 in attendance at last year's final," she said. "We're confident that we can exceed that again this year with the help of SSE. The venue is truly impressive and has world class facilities with great transport links so we believe it is fitting stage and venue for our national cup final. We would encourage people to get along on the day and experience what we believe will be a fantastic occasion and a showpiece event at the end of the Scottish Women's Football season."

Murphy added: "We hope that a record number of fans will come along and enjoy the matchday experience at Tynecastle Park - one of the most iconic venues in Scottish football."

The SSE Scottish Women's Cup Final is guaranteed to provide a fun family day out and give the crowd at Tynecastle Park unmissable entertainment.

Tickets will be available on the gate, priced at £7 for adults, £3 for concessions, and U12's go free. Tynecastle Park also hosted the draw, which was conducted by Heart of Midlothian FC CEO and Chair, Ann Budge, and SSE Head of Sponsorship and Reward, Colin Banks.

Late Parris penalty salvages draw Belgium 3 (Telford og 38, Van Kerkhoven 45,55) England 3 (Taylor 22, Mead 26, Parris pen 75) Nikita Parris scored a penalty with fifteen minutes remaining to salvage a draw for England following a fightback by Belgium in Leuven.

Jodie Taylor and Beth Mead had put England two goals ahead during the first half but poor and sloppy defending contributed towards the home side turning the game around and going in front but Parris’ late rescue act.

Lucy Bronze, the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year for 2019, was deployed in midfield and Rachel Daly occupied at right back. Abbie McManus partnered Houghton in defence and Taylor was given the nod up front.

The game exploded into life midway through the first half with Tessa Wullaert’s pass releasing Janice Cayman whose shot was saved by Carly Telford. The resulting corner was cleared and England swiftly counter attacked, a quick move ending with a slide rule pass from Georgia Stanway playing in Taylor who lifted her shot over the oncoming Nicky Evrard for the opener.

Before the home side could recover, Taylor burst through with the chance for a second and although her shot was parried by Evrard, Mead was left with the simple task of tucking the rebound into the empty net.

Steph Houghton then hit the post with a 20-yard free kick but Belgium began to settle down after the double setback and brought themselves back into the game as half time approached.

Wullaert’s corner was met by Tine de Caigny who rose highest and although her header was blocked on the line by Bronze, Heleen Jaques reacted quickest to the loose ball and her shot struck the post and went back into the net off the unfortunate Telford, despite Bronze’s efforts to keep the ball out.

Belgian tails were now up and they were back on terms on the stroke of half time, the crossed ball again causing England problems. Davina Philtjens overlapped down the left and fed Cayman whose cross picked out Ella Van Kerkhoven, who nipped inbetween Houghton and McManus to steer her header past Telford.

The comeback was completed ten minutes into the second half and England were left to rue more disappointing defending. A Wullaert cross was miscued by Houghton, whose clearance went straight at Van Kerkhoven who fired the ball into the roof of the net for her second goal.

England responded by bringing on Fara Williams but they made little impression until literally being handed a reprieve with fifteen minutes remaining. Cayman handled in the area under little pressure and a penalty was awarded. Parris, who had missed her previous two spot kicks during the World Cup, showed good nerve to find the top corner and bring her side level again.

Beth England, making her debut as a second half substitute, forced a save from Evrard with a header but the Lionesses had not done enough to win on the night. McManus was fortunate to only be booked for a late foul on Kassandra Missipo as England’s frustrations became evident and they will be looking for a much improved display, especially at the back, when they take on Norway in their next friendly in Bergen on Tuesday night.

FA Women’s Championship continued their good start to the season on Sunday and their 2-1 victory over leaves them on top of the FA Women's Championship on goal difference.

Palace started the game well and went ahead in the ninth minute through Ashleigh Goddard but Lisa Robertson brought the Wildcats level early in the second half with a 25-yard strike. The game looked to be heading towards a draw but in injury time, Sarah Robson bundled in a late goal following a free kick to hand Durham their second win in successive matches.

Joining Durham on maximum points are who recorded their second 3-2 win . Amy West gave Villa a tenth minute lead on the trot, this time away to but Elizabeta Ejupi equalised for the Lionesses on the half hour and, five minutes into the second half, she put them ahead for the first time with her second goal. FA Women’s National League League Cup Determining Round , beaten finalists in the League Cup last season, booked their place in this season's competition in the Determining by winning 1-0 away to Round. A closely fought match was expected and it turned out to be so, heading towards extra time until Naomi Cole scored the only goal of the game with six minutes left to play. 's first ever match in the competition ended in a fine 2-1 win over . Dannika Purdham grabbed both for Durham, one in each half, with Emily Scarr replying for 'Boro. played their first League Cup and it resulted in a victory, 3-1 Likewise, away to . Beatrice Fitzsimmons, Charlotte Gillies and Megan Tonks scored the goals for Cambridge, Megan Fox netting Chichester's consolation (see match report). emerged as 4-3 winners from a thrilling local derby tie against . Anthea Kaptein gave Exeter a first half lead which was cancelled out by Amber Pollock, with Kaptein netting her second ahead of the break. Jessie Jones scored another equaliser straight after half time but Abbie Britton quickly restored Exeter's lead and Kaptein went on to complete her hat-trick with a decisive fourth goal, despite Pollock having given Argyle late hope. claimed a notable 2-1 victory against from the division above. Laura Bartup netted Brighouse's goal, with the Foxes' reply coming from Becky McGrother. were another team to beat higher division opponents, . Nyci Thorns bagged a brace for Norton along with Victoria running out 6-2 winners over Burton, Shannon Reed, Maddy Atkinson and Sacha Millward, whilst Rachael Ackroyd and Emily Smith scored for Hull. travelled to and returned with a 4-2 victory under their belts. Albion took a first half lead through Trina Greaves, Barnsley hitting back with a Sophie Crosby brace and Melissa Woodhouse netted the third in the opening minute of the second half.

Jade Arber gave Albion hope when she pulled one back with four minutes remaining but Sophie Bell sealed the win for Barnsley in injury time.

Lucy Sowerby was the heroine for as they came from two goals behind at the interval to win a thrilling tie 4-3 against . Precious Hamilton's early strike for Forest was cancelled out by Kate Mallin but Isabel Sullivan quickly restored Forest's lead and Hamilton netted her second on the twenty minute mark. Sowerby then proceeded to hit a second half hat-trick to turn the match around in Town's favour, including the winning goal five minutes from time. , but they were pushed The North East derby tie went in favour of favourites at the Stadium of Light. In front of an all the way as they won 3-2 against impressive crowd of 1,168, Beth Gardener gave Newcastle an early lead but Jessica Brown brought the Wearsiders level with a spectacular strike. Brown then put Sunderland ahead on the stroke of half time with her second goal but midway through the second half, Imogen Longcake equalised for Newcastle. The game was settled with fifteen minutes remaining and this time, Brown turned provider as she set up Bridget Galloway to score the winning goal from close range.

Only of the Determining Round ties went all the way to penalties, at where visitors emerged as winners from the shootout which followed their 2-2 draw. Emily Atkinson put Lincoln ahead early on, with Natasha Baptiste equalising, with Abigail Murrell netting Lincoln's second and Faye McCoy replying. Extra time could not separate the two teams and it was Stoke who triumphed 4-3 from the spot.

Two late goals helped to a 4-1 victory at , in the clash between two former winners of the competition. Molly Johnson scored twice in the dying minutes to secure the win for Sheffield, who earlier found the net through Tania Marsden and Milly Wortley, with Jasmine Saxton replying for the Belles.

Cheltenham's consolation goal was scored by Sally Buckland Athletic defender Jana Richards clears from Butterfield.

Annys Turner of Keynsham Town. continued their strong start to the new season as they defeated 8-0. Laura Cooper and Jessica Lundie each bagged doubles and they were joined on the scoresheet by Jade Grove, Elizabeth Steele, Tanya Dickinson and Ashlea Hargreaves. were the day's highest scorers with a 10-2 victory over . Beth Donoghue led the scoring with a hat-trick whilst Ellie Mills contributed a brace, with a goal each from Grace Vella, Rebecca Kemp, Charlotte Marshall, Jodie Pilling and Megan Searson. Ella Bridges and Michelle McCormack replied with consolation strikes for Leafield.

Things were considerably tighter at where the home side were narrow . Katherine Long gave Enfield the lead after seven minutes and Laura Baker sealed the win with the second goal, ten minutes into the second half. 's first venture into the Cup finished in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of . The sides were two tiers apart last season but are in the same division this time and it was Basildon who triumphed on the day, Poppy Binding giving them a twentieth minute lead and an own goal sealing the victory. fared better on their debut, netting six times without reply past . We talk to‌..

Annie Ward (Barnsley)

Barnsley have got off to a good start to the new season and will be in the League Cup following their 4-2 victory over Northern Premier Division side West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

We talked to Barnsley defender Annie Ward, who was full of praise for her team mates for their win over higher division opponents and is hoping to be among the contenders in Division One North this season:

AW: It was a great result for the team who had to work hard for the result. We had a game plan and everybody executed it, although we have performed better in other games.

AW: West Brom were applying the pressure towards the end of the game and started to knock on the door. We dug deep and everybody kept focused until the end. Sophie Bell’s goal took the pressure off and we knew we were over the line at that point.

AW: Of course, I think any team would always prefer to play at home and we are excited for the next round.

AW: Yeah, it would be fantastic to have a good cup run and get further than we did in last year's Plate competition. We know what this squad is capable of and look forward to challenging ourselves against other teams.

AW: We know that both games will be tough. Stockport are new to the league and Brighouse will be challenging for promotion, so both present their own challenges. The squad will prepare properly for both games in the coming week.

AW: We know what this group is capable of and how hard we have to work to achieve our targets for this season. We have a fantastic squad and have strengthened areas of weakness. There is also a brilliant team spirit within the group which will also be invaluable throughout the season.

AW: There are several strong sides within the league such as Brighouse and Liverpool Feds etc. which will make for a very exciting season.

AW: I think with the current team and management, the club is capable of great things. Everybody knows we have to work hard every week and keep pushing to be better. The sky is always the limit!

Cambridge win City battle Chichester City 1 Cambridge City 3 Cambridge City scored a historic first win at National League level with a deserved 3-1 away win at higher division Chichester City in the FAWNL Cup Determining Round.

Well organised and with great commitment, Cambridge saw off the challenge of a much changed and youthful Chichester team who put them under great pressure early and late in the match.

The middle third belonged to the visitors with three unanswered goals either side of the break. reward for good attacking play down the Chichester City skipper Megan Fox on the attack wings. A late goal for the hosts was, however, well (Sheena Booker). deserved for keeping their spirits high in adversity.

Cambridge City, outstanding Eastern Region League Champions and League Cup winners last season, showed to no fear in an even opening period. Chichester threatened an opening goal on several occasions down the right through Lucy Cook and Sharna Capel-Watson. Skipper Megan Fox then delivered two dangerous corners from the right which were scrambled away.

Just after the half hour Cambridge took the lead through Beatrice Fitzsimons and doubled the advantage two minutes later with a clever move down the right and crisp finish by Charlotte Gillies. It took a fine save to deny Cambridge an immediate third before some order was restored to the home defence.

After the break, Cambridge soon extended their lead when Megan Tonks found the corner of the net taking an early shot from distance on 49 minutes. For a while, the Division One South East newcomers looked likely to extend their lead but Chichester regrouped in the final half hour in good style.

Loulou Robson had gone close with a header from a corner, Tash Wild was just wide with a cross-shot just after the hour but it was skipper Fox who reduced the arrears with a fine 30-yard effort in the top left corner to give Chi some hope.

Chichester piled forward in a brave attempt to salvage a draw and extra time but the impressive Cambridge back line and keeper were equal to the task and saw the match out comfortably for a fine win to take their place in the FAWNL Cup draw whilst Chichester will contest the Plate competition.

Harding hat-trick as Wales hit six Faroe Islands 0 Wales 6 (Harding 4,58,79, E.Jones 6, Arge og 67, Roberts 93) A Natasha Harding hat trick helped Wales on their way to an opening win in the UEFA Women Euro 2021 qualifying round after an emphatic 6-0 win against the Faroe Islands in Torshavn.

Manager Jayne Ludlow made two changes from the side that beat New Zealand in June, welcoming back midfielder Angharad James while Emma Jones was selected up front.

Wales started on the front foot from the kick off, with Harding getting her first goal with a header in the sixth minute while Emma Jones doubled the lead 90 seconds later.

Jones scored her first goal for Wales with a guided strike into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

After a strong start, Wales could have made it three after Harding was taken down in the box, but Kayleigh Green, the side’s top scorer in the previous campaign, saw her penalty sail over the crossbar.

Ludlow made one change at the start of the second half, bringing on midfielder Josie Green for her first Wales match in five years. Early on in the half, Wales extended their lead, with Harding scoring her second goal from the penalty spot after Kayleigh Green was taken down in the box.

Harding’s fine performance continued and was rewarded once more minutes later.

A mazy run into the box saw her unselfishly square the ball towards team mate Emma Jones but a touch from Arge in the Faroe Islands defence guided the ball back into her own net.

The hat-trick for Harding eventually came with ten minutes remaining with what was the goal of the game. Harding weaved between the Faroe Islands defenders once again and, almost on the by-line, produced a stunning chip over the opposition keeper and delicately placed near the far post.

With Wales 5-0 up, Ludlow saw the opportunity to give fifteen-year-old Carrie Jones her first senior cap. Having previously captained her country at Under-17 level, Jones slotted into the forward three for the closing stages.

The sixth goal came with the last touch of the match with a superb set piece move.

Rhiannon Roberts bagged her first goal for Wales as the defender beat her opposition at the far post from a corner kick and her looping header found the back of the net to cap off an impressive performance from GROUP C P W D L F A Pts GD Jayne Ludlow’s Wales.

Aberdeen claim another scalp are through to the quarter finals of the SSE Scottish Women's Cup after they claimed their second successive SWPL scalp with a 3-1 victory over .

Highly rated youngster Bayley Hutchison opened the scoring for the Dons and Francesca Ogilvie increased their lead on the stroke of half time. Colette Fleming reduced the arrears for Killie early in the second half via a free kick but Ogilvie secured the win with twelve minutes remaining when she scored her second goal. also booked their place in the last eight but needed to be patient when winning 2-0 against . The visitors defended stoutly against their higher division opponents but the deadlock was broken on the hour when Chloe Craig scored from the penalty spot. Craig went on to seal matters when she rose highest to head home an Emma Black free kick.

A strong first half performance saw to a 4-0 success away to . Holly Napier, Hannah Robertson and an own goal gave them a three-goal lead going into the interval, with Shelley Campbell adding the fourth during the second half.

The Regional Leagues...

Eastern Region League stay as leaders of the fledgling Premier Division table after goals from Adrienne Milton and Samaira Khan gave them a 2-0 win . Rachel Carter, away to Dionne Manning and Rebecca Wilson-Kane were all on target for as they defeated 3-0 and they sit in second place, just ahead of won also won 3-0 , Grace Birchall against netting twice along with Kate Pasque. meanwhile notched up an emphatic victory in which Becky Shephard, over Olivia Steele and Georgia Box all bagged hattricks. Tayla Handscombe and Kaydee King both netted doubles and the tally was completed by Frances Gamble, Amy Nash and Beth Chambers. Setor Acolatse, Jasmine Ajayi, Priya Bhatti, Mathilda Fidler and Charlotte Demmon ensured that defeated 5-1 whilst were 3-0 victors away to thanks to Leah Cudone, Emma Pollard and Katie Steward.

Welsh Premier Women’s League This Sunday, the Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s League gets underway again for the new season.

The first round of fixtures in the league’s tenth season will be in the League Cup, which has adopted a new format this time with the teams being split into two groups which will be played on a round-robin basis.

Aberystwyth Town return to the league for this campaign following their Welsh Women’s League title success but the league will once again be operating with nine clubs after Rhyl Ladies withdrew during the summer.

Jamie is new Swindon boss Swindon Town Women Football Club are delighted to confirm the appointment of Jamie Lloyd-Davies as the new First Team Manager.

Jamie who joins the club for the 2019-20 season has held a number of roles within the female game and was in the dugout for last weekend’s home FA Women’s National League Cup fixture with MK Dons.

On his arrival, Jamie said: “I am honoured and delighted to be named manager of the club and I am excited to be able to take this opportunity to help the club achieve its full potential.

“The club is evolving and showing real ambition with operations behind the scenes that will see the club grow and develop and now it is also right that we get it right on the pitch.

“During such a difficult period of transition and being able to retain and acquire some exceptionally talented players shows the lengths they have gone to.

“I would like to take this time to thank the committee for giving me and my coaching staff this opportunity, the club have managed to secure some excellent signings in the interim period whilst creating a great spirit and togetherness.

Scotland Under-19 squad Following the Euros, Pauline Hamill has named her Women’s Under-19s squad to take on Northern Ireland twice, away from home this week.

Hamill’s team competed well against strong opposition at the Women’s Under-19s Euros over the summer and now they are looking to kick on with a fresh squad.

SPAR extend Scotland partnership The girls’ and women’s grassroots football game in Scotland has been handed a significant boost thanks to a new deal between the Scottish FA and SPAR. The two-year partnership will see Scotland’s leading convenience store group extend their existing deal with the Scottish FA to support girls’ and women’s grassroots football across the nation.

Earlier this year, SPAR committed to supporting the Scotland Women’s National Team ahead of their historic inaugural appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which saw Shelley Kerr’s team narrowly miss out on qualification for the knockout stages.

SPAR’s commitment to supporting girls’ and women’s grassroots will see them act as title sponsor of a brand new schoolgirls’ cup competition, Future Stars SPAR Football Cup. The introduction of the new cup competition is designed to encourage young girls to participate in the sport and build on the positive momentum in girls’ and women’s football generated in recent years by the success of the Scotland Women’s National Team.

England Under-21 squad England Under-21s have got their 2019-20 campaign under way by entertaining Sweden, USA and Norway in the Nordic Tournament at the end of August.

Rehanne Skinner will take charge of the Young Lionesses for this annual round-robin competition, assisted by former Everton manager Andy Spence.

Fifteen of Skinner’s 20-player squad ply their trade in the Barclays FA WSL with Aston Villa midfielder Emily Syme and Sheffield United loanee Aimee Palmer representing the Championship.

Six of the squad were involved in the UEFA Under-19 European Championships which were held in Scotland last month.

England opened up their matches against Sweden on Wednesday afternoon and are then due to face the United States on Friday. They round things off against Norway on Monday 2nd September. All three matches will take place at Loughborough University.

Welsh team receive poetic support The Football Association of Wales, in partnership with Literature Wales, have released a poem written by school children supporting Wales’ UEFA Women's Euro 2021 qualifying campaign.

The inspirational Welsh language poem, written by Year 6 pupils from Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Teyrnon in Newport, is the result of a unique partnership between the two organisations, formed through the Bardd Plant Cymru scheme.

The Bardd Plant Cymru scheme (Welshlanguage Children’s Laureate) introduces literature to children in an energetic, dynamic and exciting way through workshops, performances and activities. Through working in partnership, FAW and Literature Wales have been able to introduce both creative writing and football to children through an innovative special edition of the programme.

As part of the project, thirty schoolchildren aged 10-11 joined the Wales squad at an open training session and press conference held at Rodney Parade ahead of Wales’ friendly fixture against Czech Republic in April. The schoolchildren also had the opportunity to meet with the players before partaking in their own football training session led by FAW Trust coaches.

Following a day which increased the children’s appreciation for the Welsh squad, Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Teyrnon pupils joined Bardd Plant Cymru, Casia Wiliam at Dragon Park to engage in a poetry workshop, which created ‘Cymru ar Ben y Byd’, a poem on the nerve wracking and exhilarating experience of a Wales match.

Lleucu Siencyn, CEO of Literature Wales said, “It’s fantastic to work in partnership with FAW to inspire the children of Wales. Literature Wales, the FAW, and the FAW Trust are committed to engaging with children and young people to increase participation in and enjoyment of literature and football respectively, and to support and advocate the various ways literature and sport can contribute positively to the nation’s health and well-being.”

“Seeing the film play in front of a full Rodney Parade in September is something the children can be proud of for years to come and is an experience to treasure.”

On writing the poem for the Wales squad, Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Teyrnon pupil Louis said, “I feel very proud because I love my country and football is one of my favourite sports.

I really hope we’ve made a great poem for the team that will represent them.”

When discussing the Welsh language used throughout the Bardd Plant Cymru project, Ian Gwyn Hughes, Head of Public Affairs at the FAW added, ”It shows that Welsh is a living and modern language that’s not just for the classroom. We look forward to working together with Literature Wales on future projects to offer exciting and varied experiences to youngsters across Wales, especially in connecting with difficult-to-reach individuals and communities.”

The Bardd Plant Cymru scheme, established in the year 2000, introduces literature to children in an energetic, dynamic and exciting way through workshops, performances and activities. The project promotes creativity, communication skills and self-expression through the love of literature. The scheme is run by Literature Wales with the support of Welsh Government, S4C, Books Council of Wales and Urdd Gobaith Cymru. Bardd Plant Cymru is a national ambassadorial role that is awarded every two years to a Welsh language writer.

Lionesses programme launched again After the success of year one, Worcestershire FA is proud to be launching the Lionesses Programme for a second year running. The Lionesses Programme, which will run throughout the 2019-20 season, is a ground breaking opportunity for females looking to begin their journey in grassroots football.

The Lionesses Programme is for learners who do not currently hold any football qualifications and will run throughout the season for one evening per week, term-time only with and will start in September 2019. Learners who complete the course will gain qualifications in FA Level 1 Coaching (usually costing £230) and FA Mini- Soccer Refereeing. Learners are encouraged to be actively coaching and refereeing throughout the duration of the course and beyond, however, previous playing experience is not required.

There will also be workshops within the programme focusing on: Respect and Discipline, Managing Conflict, Coaching Youth Players, Coaching Goalkeepers, and Managing Difference.

Tori Fletcher, one of the 2018/19 participants in the Lionesses Programme said: “I have really enjoyed putting my Mini-Soccer Refereeing qualification into practice during Worcestershire FA’s Mini-Soccer Festivals, supporting the younger players in some of their first ever fixtures!”

Eve Pearson, another participant from 2018/19, added: “The programme has been fun and informative with a nice variation of classroom theory and outdoor practical-based learning in an environment which is relaxed but keeps us challenged. It is good to know we will be making a difference to local female football and have the opportunity to volunteer and work in something I love.’’

The programme will cost a total of only £100 including both qualifications and with kit provided for each learner. The course will begin on the in early September and run throughout the season, up to the end of April.

Jade crosses hundred mark!

Striker Jade Cross took her Wolves Women goal tally past the 100 mark in style – with a hat-trick! As we reported last week, she went into Sunday’s National League Cup Determining Round tie against Sporting Khalsa needing just one goal to bring up her century.

Not content with one, however, she struck three times in the 4-2 victory to make it 102 goals in just 137 appearances for her home town club.

The 23-year-old striker said: “It was a fantastic feeling to get to 100, that took away the pressure I’d been feeling and I just carried on from there. I’d tried hard not to think about the stat coming into the season, but I suppose it was inevitable that it was in the back of my mind.

“So it was relief as well as jubilation I felt when that first goal went in – now I’m hoping I can keep scoring to help us have a great season.”

Cross was last season’s Golden Boot winner in the National League Division 1 Midlands with 29 league goals in an overall total of 32 in all competitions. Now she is aiming to repeat the feat, though helping Wolves win promotion is her top priority no matter how many goals she bags.

The lifelong Wolves fan, brought up and still living in the East Park area of the city, said: “The most important thing for me is to make a solid contribution.

“Winning the Golden Boot last season was great, it was the highest number of goals I’d scored in a season so that was very satisfying. But we’ve got more strikers in our squad this season than last year, so the goals will probably be more spread about and I’ll be happy if that means promotion.

“After Sunday’s win we want to progress as far as we can in the League Cup and in every competition we enter – but promotion is definitely our main focus.”

SSE Women’s FA Cup Road to the Final BRIDLINGTON ROVERS v BRADFORD PARK AVENUE Our northern tie is between two teams who have been promoted to the North East League this season, with Bridlington Rovers playing host to Bradford Park Avenue.

Bridlington Rovers are entering their third season as a team. The first two seasons have been very successful, our finishing third in the East Riding County Women's League and winning the League Cup in their first campaign. Last season was extremely successful, as Bridlington did the League and League Cup 'double', also finishing as runners-up in the East Riding County Cup. They also enjoyed an excellent FA Cup run, reaching the Third Round Qualifying before getting knocked out by FC United of Manchester.

The team is managed by Mark Womersley and Kevin Drewry. They also have a strength and conditioning coach in Georgia Begbie, who works with the team on a regular basis.

Amy Thompson has been named as the new club captain this season. She has all the qualities required to be an excellent leader and was also an ever present last season. Last season's leading goalscorer was Amy Ward who scored 44 goals in all competitions and she will be hoping to add to that tally this time around.

"After taking promotion to the North East Regional Women's Football League this season, the squad has undergone a bit of change with some players not able to commit to the extra travelling and time," Mark Womersley told Women's Soccer Scene. "We have tried to bring in young, hungry players that want to play at a higher level with the determination to prove themselves. It's going to be a challenging season but it's a challenge we are up for."

Club Chairman Andy Potts added: "It's once again great to see Bridlington Rovers Ladies competing in the best domestic cup completion in the world. It just shows how far they have all come in such a short space of time under the hard work of Mark and Kev. We hope all the players have a great day and are able to enjoy a similar cup run to last season. We wish Bradford Park the very best but we hope that Rovers get the result that their hard work richly deserves."

Bradford Park Avenue are in their twelfth season since forming, originally as Farsley Celtic but club policies from their previous regime meant the ladies had to find a new home, which was met with open arms by then Bradford Park Avenue Financial Director Kevin Hainsworth who in turn bought the team a new kit and equipment out of his own pocket.

The team, at the time, had got to the top flight in the West Riding Women's League but had to start again at the bottom division. Successive promotions saw the ladies back in the Premier Division where they stopped until this season, where they have gained promotion to the North East Regional League.

The team is managed by Neal Asquith, with Rebecca Teale as his assistant and Nicole Chamberlain as Coach, whilst Jonathan Ball undertakes the role of Goalkeeper Coach.

Jade Nelson captains the team with Samantha O'Brien as the longest serving player, indeed she is the only ever present since the club was formed (Rebecca Teale is the other original player but returned three years ago after a spell away). Natalie Bell was last season's leading goalscorer, with Kirsty Russell having the most assists and Victoria Cullen was the recipient of the Players' Player award.

BIDEFORD v ST AGNES Our southern tie takes place in the South West and is a Devon-Cornwall clash. Bideford, newly promoted to the Premier Division of the South West Women's League, will be at home to St Agnes, who were one of their opponents in the Western Division last season.

Bideford Ladies began their football journey fifteen years ago in 2004. It all started when Vanessa Saunders took on the role of player, coach and manager to get a group of interested girls playing football (including her daughter). After a few games, they joined the Devon County Women’s League Division One and competed at this level up until 2012-13 when they finished second and gained promotion to the Premier Division. Vanessa stepped down and took on the role of Chairwoman at the club.

In 2016-17, Bideford won a historic treble – the league, League Cup and Devon Supplementary Cup. This winning season resulted in promotion to the South West Women’s League Western Division. In 2017-18 they finished a credible fifth but the following campaign was better and resulted in promotion to the Premier Division for the 2019-20 campaign.

Manager Roger Bonaparte and his assistant Jorgi Usher start their fourth season in charge and are looking forward to a new season and challenges at Tier 5. This is the club’s second year in the SSE Women’s FA Cup and being part of a national cup competition.

Half the team, including captain Sam Ayres and vice captain Caz Parsons, have been long serving members. The club enjoys the use of the same pitch and facilities as the men’s first team, which is rare in the women’s game. However, Bideford AFC is a community club with strong links to the community.

Some players in the squad have over 200 appearances! Beth Ellis led the goalscoring charts with an incredible 28 goals from 20 games in the 2018-19 season.

St Agnes AFC Ladies were formed seventeen years ago by Martyn and Mandy Kimmins and the club entered the Cornwall Women's League. They began to establish themselves as one of the strongest teams in the league and were crowned Champions in the 2013-14 season.

After finishing as runners-up the following season and third in the next campaign, St Agnes then lifted the title in 2016-17 with an unbeaten record and repeated the feat in the next season, winning 19 of their 20 league matches and finishing seven points clear of second placed Mousehole.

In 2018 they took up the option of promotion to the South West Women's League for the first time and entered the Western Division. They also launched a Reserve squad in the same season.

The first season with two teams was very positive, although the first team suffered some serious injuries which affected squad numbers and results but they fielded two teams for every fixture with the firsts finishing fifth and Reserves being runners-up in their respective leagues!

Pre-season has been exciting with new faces joining for training and both teams are really looking forward to the new season.

St Agnes, who play at the club's picturesque Enys Parc ground, are managed by Vicky Fisher with Jenna Borlase and Zoe Arundell-Lethbridge as captain and vice captain respectively.

The club hosted their 11th Annual Charity Tournament for Cancer Research UK during pre-season and a challenge event with proceeds for Soccer Aid. Eighth wonder is back!

Eighth Wonder is back and delivering a Development Day with Kent FA on Friday 25th October 2019.

The event, which takes place during half-term from 10am-4pm, offers 14-20-year olds a unique opportunity to break into the world of football.

In partnership with the Kent FA and K Sports, the programme will welcome its third batch of future female football leaders.

Since the programme launched back in 2016, hundreds of participants have benefited from the scheme. From development days to coaching courses, the upcoming event later this year should offer another day full of development sessions and workshops.

Those who sign up for the Eighth Wonder Programme receive a day of in-depth training and personal development, they will then be placed on a mentoring scheme, providing them with support and guidance to contribute to Kent's volunteer workforce.

Eighth Wonder participants are provided with unique opportunities to obtain experience; whether as a coach, administrator, marketer, journalist or any other role within the game. Founder, Charlotte Richardson, looks forward to welcoming even more young women to reap the rewards.

“Eighth Wonder has accomplished above and beyond what I expected,” she said. “Besides being able to support so many young, talented women across Kent, we’ve begun to foster an online and offline community of opportunity, support and empowerment.

"I've seen girls who have undertaken events with Eighth Wonder, go on to join full-time academies, selection onto the Kent FA Youth Council whilst others have got jobs within the pro game which is fantastic.

“I’m thankful to the Kent FA who have supported this ground-breaking approach to engage girls with volunteering and careers in football, to see the impact it’s having is pleasing and I really hope we can get another event full.”

Partners of the programme, Kent FA are hosting the day at their headquarters in Ditton this October. Football Development Officer, Katie Whitmore, hopes following the success of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, they’ll be a positive uptake to the event: “I’m really pleased to be hosting a third Eighth Wonder day. The women’s game is growing on the pitch and it is great to work with Eighth Wonder to help foster growth for activities off it.

“There has been demand to host another development day and I’m sure female leaders across Kent will be signing up to take part.”

Kindly note, a £10 fee is required to secure your space and help cover costs for the day. A maximum number is in place, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Mags’ new Army coaching role WO1 M F McAteer (Mags) has been appointed to the post of Army Reserve Men’s Football Team Head Coach.

Mags McAteer joined the Army in 1998 and was selected for an Army Football trial whilst still in training. Since then she has had over sixty appearances for the Army and also represented at United Kingdom Armed Forces. Mags started her coaching journey whilst still playing and qualified as a level 2 coach in 2005, she retired from playing shortly after this and was appointed assistant coach for the Army Women’s representative Team in 2007. In 2015 Mags was appointed Head coach for the Army Women’s team and stepped down at the end of the 2018-19 season.

Mags has completed her Level 3 (UEFA B) license, is the Senior coach for the Army Air Corps men’s side and a coach at Southampton Football Club’s Academy.

Of the new appointment Mags said: “I am super excited about the challenge ahead and cannot wait to get started." (www.armyfa.com)
