In August of 2012, we began contributing a monthly column to the Meadville Tribune covering topics relevant to our community and the work we are doing here at Women’s Services. All told, the Meadville Tribune has published more than 55 of our commentaries in the last five years.

This year, in honor of our 40th anniversary, we have compiled what we think are the “best of” those columns and put them together here in this commemorative volume one. We hope you enjoy them. If you have a topic you’d like to see us cover, please let us know.

“Regarding the column “Focus on the culture of classism — not the culture of poverty” by Julie Hunter (Dec.8): What a brilliant essay! The right-wing mob in this country has made a lot of political hay beating up on the poor and the weak for decades. Regarding the column “Gaslighting is a truly insidious form of psychological abuse” by Julie Hunter (Feb. 13): To find a great example of gaslighting, look no further than America’s gaslighter-in-chief Donald Trump. He uses a variety of truth -blurring techniques. His goal is to exert power and control by creating doubts about what is real and what isn’t; it is a favorite ploy of narcissists, abusive spouses and dictators.

Example: Did Trump mock a disabled report, or did your eyes, and the Hollywood elite, make you think he did?”
