These speakers are recognized for their expertise and leadership in the fields of finance, wealth management, estate planning, entrepreneurship, economics, healthcare, mentoring, nonprofit leadership, and philanthropy.

Luncheon Keynote Speaker

David Housel David Housel spent virtually his entire working life at Auburn University. He came to Auburn as a student in 1965. After a brief stint as news editor of The Huntsville News, he was hired by the University in 1970. In his 36 years of serving Auburn, he worked as Athletic Ticket Manager (1970-71), Journalism instructor (1972-80), sports information director ( 1981-93) and, from 1994 until 2005, Director of Athletics.

In his time as Athletics Director, Auburn won eight national championships, more than 30 SEC titles, had its highest graduation rates ever and finished every year financially in the black, one of a very few athletic departments in the country to do so at that time.

He is the author of six books, including the Auburn University Football Vault, Saturdays to Remember and From the Desk of David Housel, a Collection of Auburn Stories. A seventh book is forthcoming.

He is a member of three halls of fame, including the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame and the national Sports Information Directors Hall of Fame. The press box at Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium is named in his honor. He received Distinguished Service awards from, among others, the Walter Camp Football Foundation in New Haven. Ct, the Birmingham Touchdown Club and the Alabama Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame. He was chosen Distinguished Citizen of Lee County in 2011 and is considered the resident historian for Auburn athletics.

In 2015 Housel was chosen to receive the Auburn Alumni Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest recognition the Association gives.

Active in church and community affairs he has served on the Boards of the Presbyterian Community Ministry, the American Red Cross, Auburn Preservation League and chaired a development campaign for the Child Advocacy Center of Lee County and East Alabama. He is currently on the Board of AuburnBank and is working with the College of Education in its upcoming capital campaign.

“The David Housel Auburn Spirit Award” is presented annually by The Athletic Director’s Club to individuals who have shown uncommon love and commitment to Auburn and its people in rare degree.

He had three goals in life: To be thin, rich and happy. Having failed miserably on the first two, he is now concentrating on the third, being happy, by reading as many books and playing as much golf as he can.

A member of two men’s book clubs, Housel also hosts and moderates a student book club for the Honors College of Alabama here at Auburn.

He continues love of writing by sharing columns, essays and opinions on his Facebook page, The Backbooth at Chappy’s, and through an extensive email list.

Randy Campbell graduated from Auburn in 1984 with a degree in industrial operations management. He is owner and managing partner of Campbell Wealth Management, a comprehensive wealth management firm that specializes in both feebased investment advisory services and wealth transfer strategies utilizing life insurance. He is also a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) as designated by The American College of Financial Services. His civic involvement in Birmingham includes serving as a board member for the Crippled Children’s Foundation and the American Sports Medicine Institute founded by Dr. James Andrews. Randy currently serves as a director on Auburn University’s Foundation board and is a member of the 1856 Society, Petrie Society, Samford Society and Tigers Unlimited Foundation’s AllAmerican Society. A football letterman at Auburn, Randy played quarterback from 1981-1983 and in his final year served as the team’s co-captain. In 1983, he received Auburn’s Cliff Hare Award, the highest honor bestowed by Auburn on a studentathlete. In 2012, he received the Greater Birmingham Auburn Club’s Distinguished Award for a Former Athlete in its inaugural year. Randy is married to the former Nancy Whittingslow of Marietta, Georgia.

Stan White graduated from Auburn in 1994 with a degree in mass communications.

Stan played quarterback for the Auburn Tigers from 1990-1993, where he led his team to a perfect 11-0 season his final year. He then moved on to the National Football League and was signed by the NY Giants as quarterback from 1994-1997.

Shortly after returning to Birmingham in 1998, Stan took on the role of radio color commentator for Auburn Football. Outside of public speaking and hosting several sports talk radio shows, he is also the owner of a State Farm Insurance and Financial Service Agency in Bessemer, Alabama. Stan has been married to his wife, Tina, for 14 years and they have two sons, Braden and Harrison, and one daughter, Lucy.

Ben Leard graduated from Auburn University in 2002 with a degree in liberal arts with a concentration in business administration. He serves as senior vice president of J. Smith Lanier & Co., which in 2017 became part of the Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC. Ben has more than 18 years of sales and marketing experience, including five years in pharmaceutical sales as a field sales representative and regional field sales trainer. For the last 13 years, he has worked in the insurance industry. His focus is on mid-size property and casualty clientele as well as large casualty accounts that are accompanied by complex property. Ben also facilitates large deductible programs, collateral analysis, and stock throughput programs for his qualifying clients. He also has experience in the captive insurance arena consisting of single parent captives, group captives, and 831(b) captives. His career path includes his dedication to his professional as well as personal growth and development. He participates in many charity events and speaking engagements, ranging from FCA events to those benefiting the Big Oak Ranch and The Jimmy Rane Foundation. Ben has been married for seventeen years to his wife Melanie. They have three daughters Marley (14), Aubrey (11), and Peyton (11).

WPB sponsors outreach programs that educate, enable, and inspire audiences with expert speakers in financial management, philanthropy, and nonprofit studies. Each Fall, the WPB Luncheon features speakers, usually with an Auburn connection, whose presentation will inspire and encourage thought.

The Cary Center is an academic center in the College of Human Sciences at Auburn University. The center’s programs involve multigenerational participants and focus on financial wellness, philanthropic engagement, and nonprofit studies. Cary Center staff work with the Department of Consumer and Design Sciences to provide instruction in the Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies Minor.

Adult Programs Established in 2002, the Women’s Philanthropy Board (WPB) is the flagship division of the Cary Center and serves as the basis for the Center’s adult programming. The WPB mission is to inspire, educate, and enable individuals to develop their full leadership potential, achieve independence as financial decision makers and donors, serve as mentors for future generations of philanthropists, and broaden the base of financial support for the College of Human Sciences.

College Programs

Cary Center collegiate programs respond to the growing need to educate, enable, and equip the next generation to be financially responsible and philanthropically engaged. Through programs such as the Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies Minor, Student Philanthropy Board, and Volunteers in Philanthropy, students are challenged to reach their full potential.

Youth Programs Cary Center youth programs foster imaginations and encourage compassion for others, while providing opportunities to gain leadership experience, learn money smart skills, serve as positive role models, and take part in service activities. Camp iCare and REAL Cents REAL Change educate and empower youth ages 6 to 18 to make a difference in the world.

WPB Mentee Program provides opportunities for Auburn University students to attend WPB educational programs. For the 2017-2018 year, 100 students were sponsored to attend WPB events and the inaugural Cary Center-East Alabama Nonprofit Summit.

Student Philanthropy Board is a pre-professional student organization supporting students in the Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies Minor. During the 2017-2018 academic year, SPB members hosted a National Philanthropy Day Awareness event; sponsored a toiletry drive for hurricane victims, a shoe drive for Esperanza House, and a food drive for East Alabama Food Bank; participated in the annual SPB grant writing and awarding project; and sponsored and chose the first East Alabama Nonprofit Employee of the year award.

WPB is proud to recognize the outstanding achievements of College of Human Sciences’ students, faculty, and programs through the awarding of WPB Scholarships and Philanthropic Impact Grants. In 2018, WPB awarded $64,000 in scholarships and grants to five deserving students and seven outstanding programmatic projects. Since its inception in 2002, WPB has give more than $701, 525 to the College of Human Sciences.
