Women’s Philanthropy Board Distinguished Speakers Fund The WPB Distinguished Speakers Fund was established in 2014 and supports the organization’s efforts to feature prominent speakers at its educational programs. These speakers are recognized for their expertise and leadership in the fields of finance, wealth management, estate planning, entrepreneurship, economics, healthcare, mentoring, nonprofit leadership, and philanthropy.

WPB seeks to provide nationally and internationally known speakers at its programs in order to: · Provide high-quality and relevant educational opportunities for its constituents, Auburn University students, faculty and staff, and the community at large. · Bring heightened awareness of the mission of the WPB to both internal and external stakeholders of the University. · Attract larger and more diverse audiences to its programs. · Broaden the base of financial support to WPB and its educational, mentoring, and philanthropic initiatives.

2017 WPB Fall Luncheon Keynote Speaker

Jeanne Robertson ’67 Jeanne Robertson specializes in hilarious anecdotes based on her life experiences. Speaking to thousands of people annually, she utilizes her positively funny style to illustrate that a sense of humor is much more than a laughing matter.

Other speakers might be as witty as Jeanne. Some might even be as tall. (Bare-footed with her hair "mashed" down, she's 6’2" in her size 11 stocking feet.) But nowhere will you find a speaker so adept at turning personal experiences into humorous presentations that do more than elicit laughter. This Miss Congeniality winner in the Miss America Pageant uses her down-home Southern drawl to leave her audiences laughing and thinking about her message.

Jeanne's longevity as a humorous speaker has not gone unnoticed by her peers. She has been awarded every top honor in her profession. They like her back home, too. The North Carolina Press Association named Jeanne its 2001 North Carolinian of the Year.

You may have seen this successful speaker interviewed by CBS correspondent Morley Safer on "60 Minutes"... or seen one of her presentations on public television‌ or read one of her books. But only if you've heard Jeanne in person at one of the thousands of speeches she has presented over the past 40 years can you really appreciate why she stands at the top of her profession.

Jeanne Robertson is funny. She also knows that her job is far more than "being funny." Her message is that a sense of humor is an attitude- an approach toward working with people. She believes that this attitude can be developed and improved, and she outlines how to do so while she captivates her audiences with funny, original stories.

Mamie Mills Sellers ’49 For her generosity and support in establishing the Colonel Ronald and Mamie Mills Sellers Women’s Philanthropy Board Fund for Excellence The Women’s Philanthropy Board (WPB) gratefully acknowledges Mrs. Mamie Mills Sellers for establishing the Colonel Ronald and Mamie Mills Sellers Women’s Philanthropy Board Fund for Excellence. This endowed gift represents the first endowment given in direct support of the Women’s Philanthropy Board and its mission to mentor future generations of philanthropists.

Ronald, at the age of 16, enrolled at Alabama Polytechnic Institute (API - now Auburn University). Financial difficulties required Ronald to come home to Montgomery in 1939. He worked until World War II when he joined the army. Ronald received his commission at Yale University, and became an aircraft maintenance officer. He served in that capacity, including 2 years in Japan immediately after the Japanese surrender. In 1947, he remained in the Air Force Reserves, and attended the University of Alabama. Ronald completed his BS degree in physics in 1951, and MS in 1952. He was unable to accept a fellowship to Johns Hopkins to work on his PhD. in Solid State Physics as he was recalled to active duty during the Korean War.

Mamie enrolled at API in 1946 at age 17, and graduated in 1949 with a BS degree in Foods and Nutrition. She worked as a hospital dietitian until her marriage to Ronald. Military assignments had them living in Ohio, Illinois, Washington DC, Alabama and New York. Ronald was working with scientific projects sponsored by the Air Force. Mamie was a homemaker and mother to three sons, and “volunteerin-chief” at each assignment.

Mamie was a dietitian with one client, her husband. The family grew to include three daughters-in-law, 10 grandchildren - 4 of whom now have spouses - and 3 great grandchildren. Ronald passed away in 2002. Mamie is still volunteering at church and community activities. She enjoys being a member of the Women's Philanthropy Board and the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art. Having grown up during the “Great Depression”, (which Ronald referred to as the “economy of self-denial”), and then in retirement being forced by medical circumstances into a frugal lifestyle, Mamie is enjoying the opportunity to share her resources with future generations of Auburn students.

Funds from the Sellers Women’s Philanthropy Board Endowment will be used to support student scholarships and WPB student mentoring programs.
