The Power of Mindset Do you ever watch some of those fitness stars on television who just make losing weight and being healthy look so easy? Or those millionaires who write books on making money, they just make it sound easy too. Obviously if it were easy then we would all be a healthy weight range with lots of money. Our minds are such powerful things and what we think about, how we perceive life and how we solve problems can really determine our success or failure. So why do some people find making money and losing weight easy and the rest of us don’t?

Your Environment A couple of months ago I wrote a post called “A Quiet Success” (click here to read) about how I lost nearly 20 kilos a few years ago by focusing on being healthy and changing my environment. I’m not telling you that to toot my horn, quite the opposite, I actually didn’t tell people about my weight loss for a while because it was just that easy and I didn’t actually try to do it – it was just a natural response to me changing into a more healthy eating environment, so I didn’t feel like I had anything to be proud of and I don’t really do still, it just happened. At that time, I had left my marriage and moved in with my parents with my daughter who was a baby back then. I went from my own home where I use to stack the bottom of the fridge with soft drink and eat 3 packets of Tim Tams (and the rest) a week, to my mother’s house where she was focused on healthy, vitamin rich foods and stir fries etc. The key was that I was focused at that time on becoming healthy and the good. I didn’t care about my weight back then so I guess I was just grateful at that time to be in a more healthy environment. I focused on putting good food in my mouth and every time I put something good in, I wasn’t putting something bad in. I started at a new gym and just exercised moderately there which really accelerated things from that point. Weight loss was just the natural response of those good habits. Imagine if you got a job at a gym. You would be surrounded every day with people who love to exercise and are looking for new healthy recipes. You would have the opportunity to use the equipment and be able to talk to the trainers to find information to help you achieve your goals. Being immersed in a new environment that fosters that kind of change really makes it much easier to create new habits.
