How to get back into flow when your brain is seizing up Sometimes, just sometimes, we come across an amazing life changing opportunity. Something that can make our dreams come true, we just have to reach out, grab it, do the work and we just know inside it’s going to change our lives for the better. For me, this has come in the form of a business opportunity, but for you it might be a possible new relationship, a career move or promotion, any big change in your life. The problem I’ve found with amazing things is that sometimes our crappy programs in our subconscious can’t deal and freak out, even though you logically know this is a great thing. Kicking your own butt and getting your brain back into flow can be one of the most challenging thing, so here are some tips if you are going through this to help you stop seizing up and reaching that dream goal you desire.

Why is this happening? Our subconscious has lots of “programs” that run in the background. We learn a lot of them when we are young. According to Bruce Lipton, the problem is that 70% of the programs we learn before age 7 are self-sabotaging. Our brain’s job is to keep us alive and it doesn’t distinguish between success and failure, it just knows it wants to keep us safe. Trying to find exactly which thought pattern is seizing us up and sabotaging our conscious mind’s efforts can be tricky. This requires a fair bit of self-awareness. Reading books on these topics can help, but also seeing a Professionally qualified Hypnotherapist can help too. I’m not talking about someone who performs on stage, I mean someone who can sit you down and go through an interview process with you and then create a therapeutic program for you to rewrite that subconscious program. Check out this association for a list of qualified therapist in Australia.

Repetition and Affirmations It might seem stupid, I know Hollywood comedies have poked fun of people standing and talking to themselves in the mirror, but it works. Louise Hay type affirmations, repeated over and over throughout your day can rewire your subconscious over time. It’s tedious but if you really want to conquer this and change your life then you’re going to have to put in the work. There are heaps of websites like this one with affirmations on them. I have a printout laminated next to my bathroom mirror which I need to use more than I do.

Create new experiences This one can be hard when it comes to success. Exposure techniques can be good if you have a fear or phobia but if it’s pretty extreme then talking to a Psychologist about how to do this effectively can help retrain your subconscious to realise that what it perceives is a threat isn’t actually as bad as it thinks. The trick is to expose yourself to a stimulus and then wait until you start calming down naturally before you exit. Whenever you have a good experience or a win, even if it’s small, try to reinforce it into your mind and focus on it, even writing about it in a diary. By letting your brain know you are a winner, it’s more likely to keep focusing on
