I’ve been learning a lot about how to Increase Your Social Intelligence and how important it is that we are able to adapt and use different parts of our culture to help us achieve our goals and happiness in life. Today I want to share with you a few resources I hope you will find helpful and interesting that will help you navigate different relationships to make them more empowering, healthy and enriching.

Hi Everyone!

My name is Kathryn and I’m from Women Seeking Wisdom! Today I just thought I just share with you some things that I’ve been reading from the book “Mastery” by Robert Greene particularly.

I have come up with the same subject in a lot of different areas too. It’s like you know one of those things where you will read one subject and then all of a sudden all these other subjects, other things related to that content, seem to keep coming up.

So in “Mastery” I’m up to the section where he is talking about “Social Intelligence”.

So the idea is that this is the world, this is the world we live in. We can’t change other people. We can change ourselves, and by looking at things that way it empowers you because if you just sort of go, “I can’t do anything about these people”, “I’m a victim”. You can’t do anything about it. So being able to change yourself, your mindset and finding peace in yourself, despite other people: that you can do. That you have power over. So yeah I just thought it was very interesting what he was saying about; Robert Greene was saying about a lot of you know people stopping you from achieving mastery. People who may sabotage

And I think a lot of what he was talking about was particularly, I think if you’re a scientist and you’re dealing with a lot of politics and there can be different versions I think of politics in our lives no matter where you work you know.

There’s always happy people around and just trying to find peace with all of that and just acceptance. And he was talking about using that. He wasn’t talking about it in a manipulative kind of way. He was talking about it more like a survival kind of way. I’m really hoping I can bring you more information about this because it’s something I’m really realizing is quite an important subject I think to learn more about.

So yeah social intelligence.

And I mean there’s so much around on the internet about more like relationships and narcissists and you know “Is a narcissist praying on you?”

Well it’s like how we stop that you know. I want to look at it all from a more empowering perspective. I haven’t found that yet but I’m searching but it’s worth it.

Anyway i thought I’d share with you a couple of books that you might find really interesting I’ve read over the years that I found really quite helpful and yeah see if they can help you.

So the first one is it’s quite famous if you haven’t heard of it it’s a good read.

You don’t have to take on everything from it, it’s called “How to win friends and influence people” by Dale Carnegie and time again sorry Carnegie. Kanye West. No not quite like that. So I don’t agree with everything that he says in here, it’s quite an old book. There’s a lot of good in it obviously, otherwise I wouldn’t be suggesting it. But that’s something to know, you just read these things take what you want from it and apply it to your life. So that’s a good one, a very good one to start with.

Another one, this one I actually read, actually when I got divorced funnily enough, “Boundaries” so this is by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend.

And this is just their general boundaries book but they also have a virgin that… oh God I’m really saying some naughty things today! A VERSION for marriage, and for children, and for teenagers as well. So it’s about creating healthy relationships, being able to say a healthy NO in a way that is going to make you feel a lot better, a lot more empowered.

It’s going to give you more respect and I know a lot of women struggle with boundaries and it’s not about, again, none of these are about manipulating people. It’s about bringing the power back to you and having healthy relationships or boundaries. I just can’t recommend that book enough. I think it’s been around for awhile you might actually even find a free version out there somewhere but yeah go to their website. As I said, if you’re having trouble with your teenagers or anything like that, then that can actually be really really great resource.

Last one I thought I throw in just for a bit of fun. I actually got this several years ago I saw on “Sunrise” here in Australia. The authors were on TV, it’s called “The Man Whisperer” and obviously it’s about relationships.

So this one is by Donna Sozio oh sorry if I said that wrong. and Samantha Brett. And it’s not about again sometimes for a marketing ploy they make it almost sound like they’re trying to manipulate people that going to teach you how to get a man to give you whatever it is that you desire. But really it’s about being constructive in your relationship. About again being able to say healthy nos, get respect. About you know, there is this sort of like an old formula.

If you want someone to do something, you go like “compliment + compliment + suggestion + compliment”. So and then also the idea I think this might be an how to win friends and influence people as well, as this book, as the man whisperer how to get someone to do something, is to make them believe that it was their idea. So obviously if you want to have credit for the idea, do don’t do that. But anyway all these things are very interesting.

More than anything they are about creating positive relationships.

They are about having healthy nos. They are about enriching your life and empowering your life. The fact of the matter is, is we live in the world that we live in. There are always going to be people who are going to pull you down and laugh. Really that sounds really sad but that’s not going to change I don’t think. And you need to take care of you and your family.
