In this issue, we plunge into the life of International Women reflecting on its historical roots and celebrating the progress made toward a more inclusive and equitable world.

The origins of International Women's Day can be traced back to the early 20th century when women began organizing for better working conditions, suffrage, and social justice. This pivotal event laid the groundwork for subsequent movements advocating for women's rights.

Today, International Women's Day serves as a global platform for raising awareness about gender inequality, promoting women's empowerment, and advocating for policy reforms to advance women's rights. Women continue to face barriers to equal opportunities and rights, ranging from wage gaps and workplace discrimination to gender-based violence and limited access to healthcare and education. International Women's Day provides an opportunity to shed light on these issues, amplify the voices of women, and mobilize collective action toward meaningful change.

While challenges remain, International Women's Day is also a time to celebrate the remarkable achievements of women around the world. THE BRIEF

INVEST IN WOMEN: DRIVING PROGRESS BY BUILDING A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR ALL

12 | Womenpreneur Middle East

International Women's Day 2024 arrives with a powerful call to action: #InvestInWomen. This theme resonates deeply in a world where gender disparities persist, and the need for greater investment in women's education, healthcare, and economic opportunities has never been more pressing. As we mark this occasion, it's imperative to explore why investing in women is not just a moral imperative but also a strategic necessity for building a more prosperous and equitable future. The cry for gender equality has echoed through decades, and while significant progress has been made, the fight is far from over. International Women's Day (IWD) 2024 brings the theme #InvestInWomen: Accelerate Progress, a powerful call to action reminding us that investing in women isn't just the right thing to do, it's essential for building a stronger, more prosperous future for all.

Empowering Through Education

Education has long been recognized as a cornerstone of empowerment, yet millions of girls around the world still face barriers to accessing quality education. From cultural norms that prioritize boys' education to systemic inequalities in school infrastructure and resources, girls often find themselves at a disadvantage from the outset. Investing in girls' education is not only a matter of justice but also a smart investment in future generations. Studies have shown that educated women are more likely to marry later, have fewer children, and contribute to higher household incomes. Moreover, educating girls has a multiplier effect, leading to improved health outcomes, reduced poverty, and greater economic growth at the community and national levels. By prioritizing investments in girls' education, we can break the cycle of intergenerational poverty, empower women to reach their full potential and create a more inclusive and prosperous society for all.

Ensuring Access to Healthcare

Access to quality healthcare is another critical area where investment in women is essential. Women and girls often face barriers to accessing essential healthcare services, including reproductive healthcare, maternal care, and treatment for non-communicable diseases. These barriers are compounded by factors such as poverty, discrimination, and lack of awareness about their rights and available services. Investing in women's healthcare not only improves individual health

outcomes but also has broader social and economic benefits. Healthy women are better able to participate in the workforce, contribute to household incomes, and invest in the well-being of their families. Moreover, addressing women's health needs is crucial for achieving broader development goals, including reducing maternal mortality, combating infectious diseases, and promoting gender equality. By investing in women's healthcare, we can ensure that all women and girls have access to the services they need to lead healthy, productive lives and contribute to sustainable development.

Investment Gaps and Challenges

Despite the benefits, significant investment gaps remain. Here are some areas requiring focus:

Education: Globally, 132 million girls remain out of school, with the gap widening at higher education levels. Investment is needed to provide quality education for girls, particularly in STEM fields, and address barriers like early marriage and lack of access to childcare.

add trillions of dollars to global GDP. Moreover, women are more likely than men to invest their incomes in their families' education, health, and well-being, leading to broader social benefits. By investing in women's economic opportunities, we can create more inclusive and resilient economies that benefit everyone. This includes promoting equal pay for equal work, providing access to vocational training and entrepreneurship support, and removing barriers to women's participation in the workforce and business ownership.

The Road Ahead

“ Investing in women isn't just a moral obligation; it's a strategic imperative for building a brighter, more equitable future for all.”

Healthcare: Women often face inadequate access to healthcare, including reproductive health services. Investing in accessible, affordable healthcare for women is crucial to their well-being and economic participation.

Economic Opportunities: Women are underrepresented in leadership positions and face obstacles like financing limitations and discriminatory practices. Investments in skills training, mentorship programs, and access to capital can create a more level playing field.

Creating Economic Opportunities

Economic empowerment is a fundamental aspect of gender equality, yet women around the world continue to face significant barriers to accessing economic opportunities. From discriminatory labour practices to unequal pay and limited access to credit and financial services, women often find themselves marginalized in the workforce and the economy at large. Investing in women's economic empowerment is not just about fairness; it's also about unlocking untapped potential and driving economic growth. Studies have shown that closing the gender gap in labour force participation could

IWD 2024 serves as a powerful reminder that investing in women isn't just charity – it's a strategic investment in a brighter future. By closing the gender gap, we unlock the full potential of women, leading to a more prosperous, equitable, and innovative world for all. Let's embrace the theme #InvestInWomen and turn the call to action into a reality.

Here's how you can get involved: Join the conversation online using the hashtag #InvestInWomen and share your thoughts and actions to promote gender equality. Support organizations working on women's empowerment initiatives. Donate your time, resources, or voice to their causes.

Challenge the status quo in your circle. Speak up against gender bias, mentor young women, and champion inclusive practices. By working together, we can ensure that every woman and girl has the opportunity to reach their full potential and contribute to a brighter future for all. Remember, investing in women isn't just the right thing to do –it's the smart thing to do. Let's make IWD 2024 a turning point, not just a celebration, and accelerate progress toward a more equitable world.

International Women's Day 2024 serves as a reminder of the urgent need to #InvestInWomen. By prioritizing investments in women's education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, we can unlock their full potential, drive progress, and create a more just and prosperous world for all. As we celebrate the achievements of women and girls around the world, let us recommit ourselves to building a future where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to society.

Demystifying the Digital Gold Rush: Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency

The digital age has revolutionized nearly every facet of our lives, and money is no exception. Enter Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, the enigmatic concepts that have taken the financial world by storm. While headlines often tout their skyrocketing value or portray them as a haven for illicit activity, understanding these digital assets requires delving deeper. Among these digital currencies, Bitcoin stands as a pioneer, captivating the imagination of both investors and technologists alike. Its meteoric rise and volatility have sparked intense debate, drawing attention to the underlying technology and the broader implications for global finance. As we delve into the intricate world of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, it becomes apparent that we are witnessing a transformative force that has the potential to redefine the way we perceive and interact with money. This article aims to demystify the complex world of cryptocurrency, delve into the workings of Bitcoin, and explore the potential implications of this digital gold rush.

From Scarcity to Security: The Birth of Bitcoin

The story of cryptocurrency begins in 2009 with the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto. This pseudonym believed to represent an individual or group, published a white paper outlining a revolutionary concept: Bitcoin, a digital currency designed to operate independently of central banks and governments. It is a decentralized digital currency, meaning it operates without a central bank or single administrator.

Bitcoin's core innovation lies in its decentralized nature. Unlike traditional currencies controlled by monetary authorities, Bitcoin relies on a distributed ledger technology called blockchain. Imagine a giant, public record book where every transaction involving Bitcoin is meticulously documented. This ledger is replicated across a vast network of computers around the world, making it tamper-proof and transparent.

One of the key features of Bitcoin is its finite supply. Unlike traditional currencies that can be printed at will, there will only ever be 21 million Bitcoins in existence. This scarcity, coupled with its growing adoption, contributes to Bitcoin's value proposition, often referred to as "digital gold."

Critics have often pointed to its perceived volatility as a barrier to mainstream adoption, citing concerns about its reliability as a store of value and medium of exchange. Yet, despite these challenges, Bitcoin has persevered, attracting a dedicated community of supporters who view it as a hedge against inflation and a means of diversifying investment portfolios.

Moreover, beyond its role as a digital currency, Bitcoin has spurred a wave of innovation, giving rise to a plethora of alternative cryptocurrencies, or altcoins, each with its unique features and use cases. From Ethereum and Ripple to Litecoin and beyond, these digital assets have expanded the boundaries of what is possible in the area of finance, enabling everything from decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to smart contracts and tokenized assets.

The Power of Blockchain: The Engine Behind Crypto

Blockchain technology is the backbone of Bitcoin and most other cryptocurrencies. It acts as a secure and transparent platform for recording transactions. Here's a simplified breakdown of how it works:

1. Initiating a Transaction: When you want to send Bitcoin to someone, a broadcast is made to the entire blockchain network.

2. Verification Process: Miners, individuals, or groups with specialized computers, compete to solve complex mathematical puzzles to verify the transaction's legitimacy.

3. Adding a Block: Once a miner solves the puzzle, they add a new block containing the verified transaction to the blockchain. This block is cryptographically linked to the previous block, creating an unbreakable chain of records.

4. Network Consensus: All participants in the network update their copies of the blockchain with the new block, ensuring everyone has the same record of transactions.

THE TRENDS Womenpreneur Middle East | 15

This decentralized system eliminates the need for intermediaries like banks, potentially reducing transaction fees and increasing processing speed.

Indeed, the potential applications of cryptocurrency extend far beyond simple transactions, encompassing a wide range of industries and sectors. In the domain of finance, blockchain technology is revolutionizing everything from cross-border payments and remittances to lending and asset management. Meanwhile, in the field of technology, cryptocurrencies are driving innovation in areas such as cybersecurity, data privacy, and digital identity.

However, Bitcoin's journey has not been without challenges. Its value, for instance, is notoriously volatile. In 2017, Bitcoin's price soared from around $1,000 to nearly $20,000, only to crash to $3,000 the following year. This volatility, while offering opportunities for significant profits, also

poses substantial risks for investors. Moreover, Bitcoin's association with illicit activities, such as money laundering and illegal purchases on the dark web, has raised concerns among regulators worldwide. This has led to varying degrees of restriction and scrutiny, ranging from outright bans in countries like Bolivia and Ecuador to more accommodating stances in places like Japan and the United States.

A Universe Beyond Bitcoin: The Rise of Altcoins

While Bitcoin remains the most prominent cryptocurrency, its success has spurred the emergence of thousands of alternatives, collectively known as altcoins. These altcoins offer a variety of features and functionalities, aiming to address the perceived limitations of Bitcoin.

Some altcoins, like Ethereum, focus on enabling the creation of smart contracts, self-executing agreements that can

automate transactions based on predefined conditions. Others, like Litecoin, aim to provide faster transaction processing times compared to Bitcoin.

The Crypto Coaster: Opportunities and Challenges

The world of cryptocurrency presents exciting opportunities. Here are a few:

Faster and Cheaper Transactions: Cryptocurrencies have the potential to revolutionize cross-border payments by offering faster and potentially cheaper alternatives to traditional banking systems.

Financial Inclusion: Cryptocurrencies can empower individuals in unbanked or underbanked regions by providing access to financial services without relying on traditional financial institutions.

Transparency and Security: Blockchain technology offers a high degree of

THE TRENDS 16 | Womenpreneur Middle East

transparency and security for transactions, potentially reducing the risk of fraud and errors.

However, cryptocurrency also comes with its share of challenges:

Volatility: The value of cryptocurrencies can fluctuate significantly, making them a risky investment proposition.

Regulation: The regulatory landscape surrounding cryptocurrency is still evolving, which can create uncertainty for businesses and individuals.

Security Threats: Cryptocurrency exchanges and wallets can be vulnerable to hacking attacks, potentially leading to loss of funds.

Yet, for all its promise and potential, the world of cryptocurrency remains fraught with challenges and uncertainties. Regulatory scrutiny, security vulnerabilities, and scalability issues continue to pose significant obstacles to widespread adoption. Moreover, the proliferation of scams, hacks, and Ponzi schemes has tarnished the reputation of the industry, underscoring the need for greater transparency and accountability.

Diving In: Exploring the Crypto World

If you're curious about exploring the world of cryptocurrency, here are some initial steps:

Educate Yourself: Familiarize yourself with the core concepts of Bitcoin, blockchain technology, and the risks and opportunities associated with cryptocurrency.

Choose a Reputable Platform: If you decide to invest in cryptocurrency, do your research and choose a reputable exchange platform with strong security measures.

Start Small: Given the inherent volatility, it's advisable to start with a small investment and gradually increase your exposure as you gain more knowledge and experience.

Nevertheless, as we look to the future, the trajectory of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency appears undeniably bullish. With institutional investors and Fortune 500 companies entering the fray, the legitimization of cryptocurrency as an asset class seems all but certain. Moreover, advancements in blockchain technology, such as the development of layer 2 solutions and consensus mechanisms, hold the promise of addressing many of the scalability and efficiency concerns that have plagued the industry.

Bitcoin and cryptocurrency represent a seismic shift in the world of finance. While they face significant hurdles in terms of regulation, volatility, and public understanding, their potential to democratize finance and revolutionize various industries cannot be overlooked. As we move further into the digital age, the role of cryptocurrency is

likely to become increasingly prominent, reshaping our financial landscape in ways we are only beginning to comprehend.

Despite these challenges, the potential of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency is undeniable. They offer a new paradigm for financial transactions, one that is faster, cheaper, and more inclusive. They have sparked a wave of innovation, giving birth to a thriving ecosystem of decentralized applications, smart contracts, and initial coin offerings (ICOs).

Furthermore, the underlying blockchain technology has applications far beyond finance. It is being explored for use in areas such as supply chain management, voting systems, and even social networking, demonstrating its transformative potential.

The Future of Crypto: A Work in Progress

Cryptocurrency is a rapidly evolving field with immense potential to disrupt traditional financial systems. While challenges remain, the underlying technology offers revolutionary possibilities for secure, transparent, and efficient transactions.

While the journey of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency may be fraught with volatility and uncertainty, the underlying potential for disruption and innovation cannot be ignored. As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of finance, one thing is clear: the era of digital currency is here to stay, and its impact will be felt far and wide. Whether Bitcoin ultimately fulfils its destiny as digital gold or gives way to a new generation of cryptocurrencies remains to be seen. However, one thing is certain: the revolution has only just begun.

The future of finance, it seems, is digital, decentralized, and potentially very lucrative for those willing to embrace the change. As with any new technology, there are risks involved, but the rewards could be substantial for those who navigate this exciting new frontier with care and foresight. So, buckle up and get ready for the ride, as Bitcoin and cryptocurrency continue to unleash the future of finance.

Harnessing the Healing Power of Bonsai: Enhancing Horticulture Therapy in Healthcare

Horticulture therapy, a practice that utilizes plants and gardening activities to enhance physical and emotional well-being, has gained recognition for its therapeutic benefits. This article delves into the scientific evidence supporting the use of bonsai in horticulture therapy, specifically within hospital and hospice settings. By exploring the physical and emotional effects of horticulture therapy, we uncover how bonsai cultivation can positively impact patients' overall health and contribute to their healing journey.

Horticulture therapy harnesses the innate connection between humans and nature to promote healing. Engaging with plants has

been scientifically proven to reduce stress, lower blood pressure and heart rate, enhance immune function and improve cognitive function. Additionally, horticulture therapy fosters a sense of accomplishment, purpose, and connection to nature, leading to improved self-esteem and mental well-being.

Bonsai, the art of cultivating miniature trees in containers, provides a unique and captivating avenue for horticulture therapy. As a blend of artistry and horticulture, bonsai cultivation requires patience, attention to detail, and a deep connection with nature. The process of shaping and nurturing bonsai trees provides a hands-on experience that promotes physical and emotional well-being.

Womenpreneur Middle East | 19

Scientific research has demonstrated the physical benefits of engaging with bonsai in horticulture therapy. Firstly, spending time with bonsai trees has been shown to reduce stress levels by lowering cortisol, a hormone associated with stress. This effect can lead to a decrease in blood pressure and heart rate, resulting in a calmer physiological state for patients. Additionally, the act of caring for bonsai involves physical activities such as pruning, watering, and repotting, which can help improve motor skills, flexibility, and coordination.

The emotional benefits of bonsai in horticulture therapy are equally significant. Research has shown that exposure to natural environments, including bonsai trees, can reduce anxiety, improve mood, and increase feelings of relaxation and well-being. The presence of bonsai in hospital and hospice settings creates an environment of tranquility, offering patients a sense of comfort and emotional support during their healing journey. Moreover, the process of cultivating bonsai can foster a sense of purpose, accomplishment, and self-esteem, which can positively impact patients' overall emotional well-being.

The integration of bonsai in hospitals and hospices has been gaining momentum as a means to enhance the therapeutic environment. Bonsai gardens and individual trees can be strategically placed in waiting areas, patient rooms, and outdoor spaces to provide a visually appealing and calming atmosphere. The presence of bonsai promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and contributes to a sense of well-being for patients, families, and staff.

The art of bonsai cultivation represents a harmonious blend of artistry and horticulture, an embodiment of nature's therapeutic embrace. As healthcare continues to evolve towards a more holistic approach, the inclusion of bonsai in horticulture therapy stands as a testament to the enduring power of nature in healing the body, mind, and soul.

Bonsai, an ancient Japanese art form that involves growing miniature trees in pots, holds far-reaching therapeutic benefits that extend beyond its aesthetic appeal. The meticulous care and attention required to cultivate bonsai trees provide individuals with an opportunity to connect with nature, cultivate mindfulness, and foster a sense of calm amidst life's challenges.

At its core, horticulture therapy harnesses the innate connection between humans and the natural world to promote healing and well-being. Through activities such as planting, nurturing, and tending to plants, individuals can experience a range of physical and psychological benefits. Bonsai cultivation, with its focus on precision and patience, offers a unique avenue for individuals to engage in therapeutic gardening practices.

One of the key benefits of bonsai cultivation lies in its ability to reduce stress and anxiety. The act of tending to bonsai trees requires individuals to slow down, focus their attention on the present moment, and engage in mindful practices such as pruning, wiring, and shaping the trees. This meditative process promotes relaxation, reduces cortisol levels, and instills a sense of tranquility and inner peace.

20 | Womenpreneur Middle East

Moreover, bonsai cultivation has been shown to improve mental clarity and cognitive function. The intricate nature of caring for bonsai trees stimulates the brain, enhances concentration, and promotes problem-solving skills. As individuals immerse themselves in the art of bonsai, they develop a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of all living things, fostering a sense of harmony and balance within themselves.

In addition to its mental health benefits, bonsai cultivation can also have a positive impact on physical well-being. Engaging in gardening activities, even on a small scale with bonsai trees, promotes physical activity, improves dexterity, and enhances motor skills. Furthermore, spending time outdoors in natural environments has been linked to reduced blood pressure,

improved immune function, and overall better health outcomes.

The therapeutic potential of bonsai cultivation extends beyond individual well-being to encompass broader societal benefits. In healthcare settings, incorporating bonsai cultivation into horticulture therapy programs can enhance patient outcomes, reduce reliance on pharmaceutical interventions, and promote holistic healing. Bonsai gardens in hospitals, nursing homes, and rehabilitation centers offer patients a serene and nurturing environment where they can reconnect with nature and embark on their healing journey.

As we navigate the complexities of modern life, it is increasingly crucial to seek out holistic approaches to wellness that

address the mind, body, and spirit. Bonsai cultivation, with its ancient roots and profound therapeutic benefits, offers a timeless remedy for the stresses and strains of contemporary living. By harnessing the healing power of bonsai, we can cultivate inner harmony, nurture our well-being, and cultivate a deeper connection to the natural world.

Bonsai cultivation represents a powerful tool for enhancing horticulture therapy in healthcare. Through its meditative practices, stress-reducing benefits, and holistic healing potential, bonsai offers individuals a pathway to greater well-being and resilience. By incorporating bonsai cultivation into healthcare settings, we can harness the transformative power of nature to promote healing, restore balance, and cultivate a brighter, healthier future for all.

Collaborating closely with horticulturists and environmental experts helps me maintain optimal conditions for the trees throughout the installation. Another challenge is integrating scientific accuracy into my artistic expression, which requires extensive research and consultation with scientists to convey accurate messages about the natural world. Lastly, communicating the urgency of environmental issues without overwhelming the audience is a challenge I address by creating immersive experiences that engage both intellect and emotion.”

Her installations often feature living plants, including Bonsai trees, which she uses to create visually striking and thought-provoking pieces that highlight the beauty of nature and the importance of preserving it. Kasia is very conscious of climatic changes and global environmental challenges. BREAKING BOUNDARIES

and spreading smiles

WITH

Dr. Rafif Tayara

the pediatric dentist

Dr. Rafif Tayara, a well-known name in the field of paediatric dentistry, is making a significant impact on children's oral health and empowering fellow women to break barriers in their careers. From humble beginnings to becoming a beacon of inspiration for women and mothers across the globe, her journey is one of resilience, passion, and unwavering determination. Dr. Tayara, affectionately known as Dr. Smile, is a Lebanese-Canadian international paediatric dentist with an inspiring story of perseverance and success. It’s an honour to sit down with Dr. Tayara to learn more about her incredible career and to dive into her amazing tale.

Dr. Tayara’s journey from modest roots to becoming a renowned paediatric dentist is truly inspiring. Tayara shared her inspiration for paediatric dentistry with us, “Life has a funny way of guiding you, sometimes into your passion. My epiphany came in a Montreal children’s hospital, watching paediatric dentists work miracles with kids. At that moment, I knew it was my path. It’s

more than a job; it’s a passion that fills each day with joy. To get here, I navigated through 5-7 years of dental school, followed by 3-5 years of specialized training focused on the unique needs of young patients from their psychology to their medical and dental care. Finding My Calling in Paediatric Dentistry, whether it’s a child with special needs, behavioural issues, or a healthy kiddo, we’re trained to ensure they leave with a smile. Paediatric dentistry isn’t just about teeth; it’s about the heart. Since then, it’s what I do best!”

As a single mother of twins, she juggled her demanding profession with raising her children, eventually settling in Dubai to build and grow her practice. Handling children during dental check-ups is not an easy job. Tayara told us about the unique challenges she encountered while treating children in a foreign environment, “Paediatric dentistry is a very challenging practice. It’s really about understanding child psychology at its core and combining your technical skills to treat your child patient in the fastest and most efficient way. Children have a short attention

span, so you need to be the best and the fastest at the same time. Being in Dubai, it’s an extra challenge as I’m meeting children from all over the world, speaking different languages and coming from various cultures, so you need to add on your existing challenges and communication barriers too.” She spoke.

What sets Dr. Tayara apart is not just her technical skills and knowledge, but her ability to connect with her patients and their families. Coming from a multicultural background, she speaks French, English, Arabic, Spanish, and Dutch, which allows her to communicate effectively with the diverse population of the UAE.

Tayara believes that this enhances her ability to connect with patients and their families. “They say when you learn and speak a Language, you get to learn a whole new culture and way of thinking! Well, I was lucky to learn many languages in my life. Language is a great tool I use in getting closer to my little patients at my practice. Especially when little children can only speak their native language.

37 | Womenpreneur Middle East

It helps gain their trust and make familiar jokes. Children thrive on familiarity and giving them a sense of their mother language adds to their comfort on my chair.” She said with pride.

Dr. Tayara's practice focuses on seeing children as early as one for their first dental visit, early prevention of oral childhood caries, and early correction of facial growth and malocclusions in children. We asked her about some of the most common oral health issues observed in children and the preventive measures she recommends to parents, “The UAE and the GCC region are witnessing still one of the red zones on the global map for Early Childhood Caries. At least 7 out of 10 kids who come to my practice have early childhood cavities. It’s a bacterial oral disease that children suffer from, it can affect their growing curve, their eating habits, their stress level, their well-being, mood, and self-esteem. But guess what? It’s preventable! Just by starting early by taking your child to a paediatric dentist by the age of one. Get it done by Age One!” She passionately talked about changing lives and ensuring that her patients have healthy, happy smiles for life. Dr. Tayara specialised in early

orthodontics and is one of the first providers of Invisalign First in the Middle East. “This tool has revolutionised my practice. Technology and Artificial intelligence go hand in hand with Clear Aligner treatment for children. We use 3D scanners and AI tools to take digital prints of teeth and jaws. We can expand the jaws, allowing children to breathe better, alleviate teeth crowding, for better hygiene and function, and especially give the child confidence in smiling; as bullying at schools is a big issue these days.” She added the benefit of this technology.

Tayara’s advocacy for oral health awareness spans across various platforms. She talked about the most effective strategies in reaching and educating communities about the importance of paediatric dental care, “I have been involved in public health for over 15 years, especially in the Middle East and GCC. Being in the media, speaking on TV shows, radio, and podcasts helped a lot in raising paediatric health awareness.

Being close to communities helped too. I often hold

awareness events for parents, and mothers, in schools, nurseries, and hospitals and this makes me learn about how I need to change things in my practice to serve my patients in a better way.

Lately, I have published two children’s books, aiming at raising awareness, and beating dental phobia in children. It’s a

great way to introduce your child to his dental home journey. It helps build a positive attitude towards the dentist. Can’t wait to share it all with you!” She concluded with utmost pleasure.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

emerging design talent SPARKLING SISTERS CHAMPIONING

IN the UAE and beyond

In the bustling metropolis of Dubai, where innovation intersects with tradition, two sisters are carving a niche for emerging designers in the global fashion landscape. Amani and Manal Waqi, the dynamic duo behind The Amanqi Consultancy, are at the forefront of promoting creativity and diversity in the fashion and jewellery industries. With a keen eye for talent and a passion for storytelling, they have created a platform that celebrates the vibrant design community of the United Arab Emirates and beyond. Manal, along with her sister Amani, embarked on a journey fuelled by their passion for fashion and lifestyle. Their journey began in 2016 with The Amanqi Edit, which eventually evolved into a full-fledged consultancy. The duo has been instrumental in nurturing emerging design talent, particularly from the Middle East. The Waqi sisters, who grew up in Geneva, Switzerland attended secondary school there, and pursued further studies in London, have always been passionate about fashion and lifestyle. Amani, with a degree in business management, and Manal, with a background in fashion marketing, bring a unique blend of

skills to their business. Their shared interest in discovering and promoting new, unique brands led them to create The Amanqi Consultancy, a platform dedicated to supporting and growing emerging brands in fashion and jewellery.

We started our conversation by asking about their journey that led to the launch of The Amanqi Consultancy and their inspiration to enter the fashion industry. Manal started with a smile, “We have always shared a deep love for fashion and a keen interest in discovering emerging talent. This passion inspired us to create The Amanqi Edit, a platform dedicated to showcasing these cool, up-and-coming brands. As our platform gained traction, we came up with the idea of organising pop-up events, where we brought together a curated selection of contemporary brands under one roof. It was through these pop-ups that we recognised a growing need for dedicated representation of emerging brands, particularly in the realm of fine jewellery. This realisation led us to establish The

Amanqi Consultancy, a venture committed to providing strategic guidance and support to emerging brands as they navigate the competitive landscape.”

The UAE's vibrant design community is a melting pot of creativity, with designers drawing inspiration from the region's rich cultural heritage and rapid growth. Amani Waqi believes that the unique narratives and exceptional skills displayed by local designers set them apart. "The brands work hard not only to showcase their skills but also to exhibit the region's stories and artisans' talents in a unique way that has never been done before," she says.

"The Emirati design scene is vibrant and growing," Amani remarks, reflecting on the exponential growth witnessed in recent years. "We've been fortunate to be a part of this industry, witnessing the incredible creators who breathe life into their cultural heritage," Amani says about the Emirati design.

their ability to weave narratives into their creations, transcending mere aesthetics to convey stories deeply rooted in the region's rich heritage. "The brands work tirelessly to showcase not just their skills, but also the stories and talents of our artisans," Amani explains, highlighting the profound connection between creativity and cultural expression.

The duo wants to establish their uniqueness and what sets them apart compared to other consultancies in the UAE’s vibrant design community, “What sets The Amanqi Consultancy apart is our deep understanding of the needs and constraints faced by small, emerging brands. We are proud of ourselves, for establishing personal relationships with each client, serving as an extension of their team rather than just a service provider. Our dedicated approach ensures that we are there to guide and support them through every step of their journey, offering tailored solutions to support them in achieving their goals and thriving.”

The Amanqi Consultancy plays a crucial role in this ecosystem by organising events for their clients. In the Middle East region, they regularly organise pop-ups in UAE (such as

Ataya), Qatar, and Saudi Arabia curating a selection of seven to eight international and local jewellery brands and their collections around a specific theme.

Identifying and selecting the jewellery and accessory brands that The Amanqi Consultancy represents, is one of the most important things to be considered. They say, “We prioritise brands that showcase a strong brand identity, exceptional storytelling, and unique designs. Beyond these essential factors, we look at each brand's vision and potential for growth within the market. Our goal is to provide our clients with personalised strategies and support to help them thrive in the competitive fashion industry. By working with brands that possess both artistic merit and commercial viability, we aim to provide our clients with unparalleled opportunities for success and recognition in the industry.”

The duo set up a showroom in Paris Fashion Week and are very excited to share their experience, “Our showrooms in Paris featured a curated selection of fine jewellery, accessories, and ready-to-wear brands from the Middle East. It's an opportunity for designers to connect with buyers, editors, and influencers from around the world, and to showcase their

collections in one of the most prestigious fashion capitals.” The fashion industry is tremendously evolving with new trends and brands. You need to be extra vigilant about these. Staying up to date with industry changes and building a fashion consultancy is challenging. The duo shared their experience, “Building and growing The Amanqi Consultancy has been challenging as we navigated uncharted territory with very little guidance. From setting up the company and structuring operations to managing payments and client expectations, we've faced a learning curve at every step. Yet, through experience, as well as each other’s support, we have overcome these obstacles and we are still learning every day.”

They shared some success stories and memorable moments from their experience, working with emerging design talents, “Through The Amanqi Edit platform, we've had the privilege of connecting with so many remarkable brands. The Edit platform facilitated connections with extraordinary brands and collaborators, many of whom we've continued to work with over the years. And of course, setting up the consultancy side of the company has been the most significant by-product of The Amanqi Edit.”

Paying homage to the local culture and the incredible growth of the region is often the inspiration behind many of the brands' narratives. Each jewellery brand celebrates the progress, tolerance, and excellence of the region in its unique way. For example, one of our clients, TOKTAM, designed the Mosque collection, drawing inspiration from the grandeur of the Sheikh Zayed mosque in Abu Dhabi. You have to support the brands and the designers by giving guidance and mentoring. “We aim to empower our designers by sharing our knowledge and expertise with them. Open communication and trust are paramount in our relationships with clients, ensuring that their needs and

goals are always prioritised. We tend to go above and beyond to support them, offering personalized advice, connecting them with relevant industry contacts, and providing ongoing assistance to help them achieve success in any way we can.” They talked about how they are helping the brands to navigate the competitive market.

When asked about the emerging trends in the fashion and fine jewellery industry in the UAE and how they are adapting to these changes Manal added, “At The Amanqi Consultancy, we closely monitor the emerging trends and consumer preferences, ensuring that each brand we represent remains relevant. Our

focus lies in devising strategies that enhance brand credibility and visibility, helping our clients stand out in a market that is becoming increasingly competitive. Our focus on international events such as The Suite events in Switzerland or our showroom during the Cannes Film Festival enables us to showcase our brands globally.”

The Amanqi Consultancy also hosts a styling showroom during the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, providing international exposure for their high jewellery clients. Last year, they hosted a preview of designs from international jewellers at the Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers during Paris Fashion Week. The event showcased the latest

collections from many Middle East-based designers and designers from Europe and the United States. “Growth can never occur without stepping out of the confines of your comfort zone. Much of our success has come from being brave enough to take risks and try something new. Of course, success is never guaranteed, but we firmly believe in always putting our maximum effort into everything we do.” The agency prioritises ethical practices, offering flexible work schedules and a supportive environment for its employees. Their success is further evidenced by the fact that most clients come to them through word-of-mouth recommendations.

Manal and Amani both are extremely passionate about their company and working hard for their clients. They believe in transparency in all aspects. They wish to give some advice to aspiring entrepreneurs who are looking to enter the industry in the UAE. “Our advice would be to embrace networking and relationship-building wholeheartedly. Be proactive in reaching out to individuals in the industry; building connections can open doors to invaluable opportunities that may not have otherwise been accessible. Remain open-minded and be willing to explore new avenues, as the path you end up on could lead to something even better than what you previously envisioned”.

Despite the challenges of any new market, the Waqis believe that the opportunities in the region outweigh the challenges. The duo shared their goals and aspirations for the consultancy in the coming years, “Our primary goal for The Amanqi Consultancy's future is to continue nurturing and elevating the brands we represent, ultimately establishing them as globally recognised names in the industry. We aspire to solidify our position as the go-to agency for emerging brands, offering unparalleled support and guidance to help them achieve international success”. They wish to create an impact on the design community in the UAE.

The Amanqi Consultancy is evidence of the thriving design scene in the UAE. By supporting and promoting emerging talent, the Waqi sisters are helping to shape the future of the region's design industry. The vibrant design community in the UAE, coupled with a strong event culture and a collaborative spirit, makes it a perfect incubator for new talent. As The Amanqi Consultancy continues to nurture and showcase the work of emerging designers, the UAE's design scene is set to shine even brighter on the global stage.

The Financial Savvy of Women: Women and Money Management in 2024

In the domain of personal finance, stereotypes often dictate that men are more adept at managing money than women. However, recent research and real-world evidence challenge this notion, suggesting that women possess unique strengths and attributes that make them exceptional financial stewards. From budgeting and saving to investing and

long-term planning, women demonstrate a nuanced approach to managing finances that sets them apart. While biological differences may not dictate financial aptitude, research, and real-world trends are revealing a shift in the financial landscape. Women are emerging as powerful and strategic players, approaching money management with a unique and

often successful perspective. In fact, according to a study by Warwick Business School, women tend to outperform men when it comes to investing. In this article, we'll dive into the reasons why women excel in financial management compared to men and provide tips for women to maximize their financial potential in 2024 and beyond.

64 | Womenpreneur Middle East FINANCIAL TIPS

Empathy and Emotional Intelligence

One key reason why women excel in financial management is their innate capacity for empathy and emotional intelligence. Studies have shown that women tend to be more attuned to the emotional aspects of financial decision-making, considering not just the numbers but also the broader implications for themselves and their families. This empathy allows women to make more thoughtful and holistic financial choices, balancing short-term needs with long-term goals and priorities.

The Rise of the "Sheconomy"

The term "Sheconomy" highlights the growing economic power of women. According to a report by the Boston Consulting Group, women control $34 trillion in global investable assets, and this number is expected to rise significantly in the coming years. This surge in financial influence is fuelled by several factors:

• Increased Earning Power: The gender pay gap is narrowing, and women are entering higher-paying professions at a steady pace. This financial independence empowers them to make informed decisions about their money.

• Longer Lifespans: Women on average live longer than men. This means they need to plan for a longer retirement, which necessitates a more proactive approach to saving and investing.

• Risk Aversion (with a Nuance): While often portrayed as inherently risk-averse, women tend to be more cautious investors. They conduct thorough research, prioritize long-term goals, and avoid impulsive decisions. This measured approach can lead to steadier financial growth.

• Women are more likely to seek advice: Women are more likely to seek financial advice than men. According to a study by Fidelity, 54% of women seek advice from a financial professional, compared to 47% of men. This means that women are more likely to have a solid financial plan in place.

• Women are more focused on long-term goals: Women tend to have a longer-term perspective when it comes to investing. They are more likely to focus on their financial goals, such as retirement or buying a home, and make investment decisions that align with those goals.

Risk Awareness and Caution

Another area where women shine in finance is their prudent approach to risk management. Research suggests that women are generally more risk-averse than men, preferring to prioritize capital preservation and stability over high-risk, high-reward investments. While this cautious approach may result in lower returns in the short term, it often pays off in the long run, as women are less likely to suffer significant losses during market downturns or economic crises.

Strengths of Women in Financial Management

Several key strengths contribute to women's success in managing money:

Planning and Goal Setting: Women excel at setting realistic financial goals and creating a roadmap to achieve them. They break down long-term objectives into manageable steps, ensuring they stay on track.

Discipline and Budgeting: Studies suggest women are more likely to stick to budgets and avoid unnecessary spending. Their focus on long-term goals helps them prioritize saving over impulsive purchases.

Research and Due Diligence: Women are known for their meticulous research habits. Before making any financial decisions, they gather information, compare options, and understand the risks involved. This thoroughness minimizes financial pitfalls.

Collaboration and Communication: Women are often adept at communication and collaboration. They readily seek advice from financial advisors or trusted family members, leveraging expertise to make informed choices.

65 | Womenpreneur Middle East FINANCIAL TIPS

Long-Term Perspective and Goal Setting

Women are also known for their long-term perspective and goal-setting prowess when it comes to finances. Whether planning for retirement, saving for education, or investing in a home, women are adept at setting clear financial goals and diligently working towards them over time. This ability to focus on the big picture and stay committed to long-term objectives is a key factor in women's financial success and stability.

Collaborative Decision-Making

Women are more likely than men to seek input from others and engage in collaborative decision-making processes when it comes to finances. Whether consulting with a financial advisor, discussing investment strategies with a partner, or seeking advice from friends and family, women value diverse perspectives and input when making financial decisions. This collaborative approach not only leads to better-informed choices but also fosters a sense of accountability and support in managing finances effectively.

Beyond Stereotypes: It's Not Gender, It's Approach

It's important to remember that financial success isn't solely based on gender. Men can also excel at the strategies mentioned above. Ultimately, a responsible and successful approach to money management hinges on personal attributes like discipline, planning, and a commitment to long-term goals.

Challenges and Considerations

While women are making significant strides in finance, they still face challenges:

The Gender Pay Gap:

Although narrowing, the pay gap still exists. This means women often have less money to save and invest compared to men.

Parental Leave and Career Breaks:

Women are more likely to take time off work for childcare, which can impact their earning potential and retirement savings.

Financial Literacy:

While improving, the gender gap in financial literacy persists. Investing in financial education for women is crucial to closing this gap and empowering them to make informed financial decisions.

Building Financial Confidence

Tips for Women to Make Smarter Investments in 2024

1. Educate yourself:

The first step to making smarter investments is to educate yourself about finance. There are many resources available online, including articles, videos, and courses, that can help you learn about investing and personal finance.

2. Set financial goals:

Before you start investing, it's important to set clear financial goals. Whether you're saving for retirement, buying a home, or starting a business, having specific goals in mind will help you make better investment decisions.

3. Diversify your portfolio:

Diversification is key to managing risk in your investment portfolio. This means spreading your investments across different asset classes, such as stocks, bonds, and real estate, to reduce the impact of any potential losses.

4. Start investing early:

The earlier you start investing, the more time your money has to grow. Even small investments can add up over time, thanks to the power of compound interest.

5. Seek advice from a financial professional: As mentioned earlier, women are more likely to seek financial advice than men. Working with a financial professional can help you create a personalized investment plan that aligns with your financial goals.

6. Stay disciplined:

It's important to stay disciplined with your investment strategy, even during times of market volatility. Avoid making impulsive decisions based on short-term market fluctuations, and stick to your long-term investment plan.

66 | Womenpreneur Middle East FINANCIAL TIPS

Conclusion :

In the domain of personal finance, stereotypes often dictate that men are more adept at managing money than women. However, recent research and real-world evidence challenge this notion, suggesting that women possess unique strengths and attributes that make them exceptional financial stewards. From budgeting and saving to investing and long-term planning, women demonstrate a nuanced approach to managing finances that sets them apart. HEALTH TIPS

Taking care of your health is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. With the fast-paced and often stressful nature of modern life, it can be easy to neglect your health and well-being. However, making small changes to your daily routine can have a significant impact on your overall health and happiness. From nutrition and exercise to stress management and sleep hygiene, numerous factors contribute to our health and vitality. In this article, we'll share some essential health tips that will help you feel your best and live a happier and healthier life.

Prioritize Nutrition

Eating a balanced diet is crucial for maintaining good health. Try to incorporate a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and antioxidants your body needs to function at its best. Remember to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day and limit your intake of processed foods, sugary drinks, and excessive salt.

Moving Your Body Matters

Regular exercise is essential for maintaining a healthy weight, building strong muscles and bones, and reducing your risk of chronic diseases. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week, such as brisk walking, cycling, or swimming.

• The Magic of Micro Workouts: Forget the hour-long gym sessions. Break down your exercise routine into smaller, more manageable chunks. Do a 10-minute HIIT workout in the morning, take the stairs instead of the elevator, or go for a brisk walk during your lunch break. Every bit counts!

• Desk Exercises Don't Suck: Combat the perils of sitting all day with simple desk exercises. Do some calf raises, shoulder rolls, or arm circles to boost

• circulation and prevent stiffness. There are even apps dedicated to desk exercises, providing guided routines you can do right at your workstation.

• Turn Errands into Adventures: Park further away from your destination and walk, or cycle to run errands. Take the stairs whenever possible, and incorporate movement into your daily routine.

• Find Activities You Enjoy: Exercise shouldn't feel like a chore! Explore activities you genuinely enjoy, whether it's dancing, swimming, or hiking with friends. This makes maintaining an exercise routine more sustainable in the long run.

Sleep: The Unsung Hero of Health

Getting enough sleep is crucial for your overall health and well-being. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night, and establish a regular sleep schedule to help regulate your body's internal clock.

• Power Down for Better Sleep: The blue light emitted from electronic devices disrupts sleep patterns. Establish a habit of powering down electronics at least an hour before bedtime.

• Create a Sleep Sanctuary: Make sure your bedroom is a haven for sleep. Invest in blackout curtains, keep the temperature cool, and ensure your mattress and pillows are comfortable and supportive.

• Develop a Relaxing Bedtime Routine: Wind down before bed with calming activities like reading a book, taking a warm bath, or practicing mindfulness exercises. This signals to your body that it's time to prepare for sleep.

• Don't Hit Snooze: The snooze button disrupts your sleep cycle and leaves you feeling groggy. Set your alarm for a time that allows you to get out of bed feeling refreshed.

Stay Connected

Maintaining strong social connections is essential

for mental and emotional well-being. Make time for meaningful interactions with friends, family, and loved ones, whether it's through in-person visits, phone calls, or video chats. Surround yourself with supportive people who uplift and encourage you, and don't hesitate to reach out for support when you need it.

Practice Good Hygiene

Practicing good hygiene is essential for preventing the spread of illness and infection. Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, and avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Take Care of Your Mental Health

Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. Seek professional help if you're struggling with issues such as depression, anxiety, or stress. Excessive alcohol consumption and tobacco use can have serious negative effects on your health. Limit your alcohol intake to moderate levels, and avoid tobacco products altogether.

Schedule Regular Check-ups

Regular health screenings and check-ups are essential for detecting and preventing potential health issues before they become serious. Schedule regular appointments with your healthcare provider for routine exams, vaccinations, and screenings based on your age, gender, and medical history. Be proactive about your health and advocate for yourself by asking questions and seeking second opinions when necessary.

In conclusion, prioritizing your health is essential for living a vibrant and fulfilling life. By adopting healthy habits such as nutritious eating, regular exercise, stress management, and adequate sleep, you can enhance your overall well-being and vitality. Remember that small changes can add up to big results, so start incorporating these health tips into your daily routine today for a happier, healthier tomorrow.
