The Celebrating Families! TM curriculum is an evidence based cognitive behavioral, support group model written for families in which one or both parents have a serious problem with alcohol or other drugs and in which there is a high risk for domestic violence, child abuse, or neglect. Celebrating Families! TM works with every member of the family, from ages 3 through adult, to strengthen recovery from alcohol and/or other drugs, break the cycle of addiction and increase successful family reunification. Celebrating Families! TM fosters the development of safe, healthy, fulfilled, and addiction-free individuals and families by increasing resiliency factors and decreasing risk factors while incorporating addiction recovery concepts with healthy family living skills. Each session begins with a family meal. Afterwards family members break into age groups for developmentally appropriate activities led by the group facilitators. At the end of each session, all family members reconnect in activities to learn how to apply these new skills and interact in healthy ways. The model is developed for children of alcoholics/addicts COAs and their parents, many of whom have learning differences or cognitive deficits. Celebrating Families! TM is based on recent research about brain chemistry, including skills, education, risk and resiliency factors, and asses development. Emphasis is also placed on the importance of community service and individual spirituality. Celebrating Families! TM :     

an insanely organized person and love pulling eveything together to assist with this program. As if that isn't enough I also write in my spare time. I currently have four published books and have three others in various stages of development. In 2011 my debut novel Yesterday’s Lies won AAMBC’s Book of The Year Award. I was also a bestselling author for 2011 for my debut book. Terri Coleman Washington

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, I have three grown children and one four year old grandson In addition to writing one of my passion is singing. I frequently sing in church and last year had a lead role in the Beluah baptist Church's Christmas production Going Home for Christmas.

I am Director of Applications Development for Coventry HealthCare where I have been employed for over 23 years. During my time at Coventry I have held various roles on both the busiMy titles can be found on Amazon.com, ness and the Information Technology Bn.com and www.AuthorTerriD.com. side. Most of my time has been spent in IT working on various data conversion and integration projects. Coventry was recently acquired by Aetna and I am currently working on the migration from Coventry systems to Aetna systems. It's karma actually, for the past decade I have worked on bringing business into Coventry systems that we acquired and now the tables are turned and things are moving the other way. It's challenging but I love it.

When I am not working on system and data migrations I am spending time working with my mom, Patricia Gadsden with her Celebrating Families program. I handle all of the behind the scenes organization items for the program. I am

litical fray of a city reeling from two decades of one-man rule, and that I would become embroiled in the efforts to overthrow yet another dictatorial regime and reestablish democracy. I moved to Harrisburg in 2008, flying directly from Prague, Czech Republic, to take a job as Senior Vice President of Content for WITF. Prague was just emerging from decades of Communist rule and struggling to catch up with the modern world. When I arrived in Harrisburg, it was a city still in the grips of the Reed Administration and apparently content to remain so. I vividly remember my real estate agent telling me about Harrisburg’s “mayor for life,” and chuckling that he’d probably die in office.

Joyce M. Davis World Affairs Council of Harrisburg When I moved to Harrisburg a little more than six years ago, I thought the most adventurous part of my life was over. I had traveled the world, lived overseas three times, interviewed the famous and infamous as a foreign correspondent and even became embroiled in freedom movements and overthrowing a dictator in far-away Central Asia. And before my plane touched down in Harrisburg, I had spent three decades covering the world, working for national and international media organizations in both print and broadcasting. I had even authored two books on one of the weightiest topics in the modern world – Islam and terrorism. No adventure could ever compare to walking through Lebanese refugees camps with gun-totting jihadees or dining in Khartoum with a sheikh once considered one of the most dangerous men the world. Or so I thought. Little did I know what would await me in Harrisburg. I settled in Harrisburg not for excitement and adventure but for a quiet life in what I thought was a somewhat sedate Eastern capital on the banks of a beautiful, lazy river. Boy was I wrong. If I thought covering the eternal conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians was the greatest challenge I would face in my lifetime, I had no idea about the roller coaster I would face in Harrisburg politics. In fact, I had no idea I would enter into the po-

I would have been content to simply cover Harrisburg politics from the remote WITF palace on the Swatara Township hill. But the Great Recession ended that fairy tale and forced me into the quagmire of City Hall. I accepted a job in the administration of Mayor Linda Thompson, but not just any job. I was her first spokesperson. Two months later, I was not her spokesperson any longer. And the rest is Harrisburg history. We lived it. Through my years trotting around the globe, learning about different languages, cultures and customs, I have learned that life is unpredictable. I never would have thought that I’d be living in the capital of Pennsylvania and so immersed in the community life of a small American city. But I now am a part of two worlds. Through the World Affairs Council of Harrisburg that I founded with a group of community leaders four years ago, I have been able to maintain my connection to the greater world while sinking my roots deeply into the rich soil of the Susquehanna. I can still travel to beloved places like Istanbul, Tashkent and Paris, but I can also take pride in being a part of a real community and helping it to grow and prosper. I have lived in New Orleans, Washington, Paris, Athens and Prague – some of the world’s greatest cities. Whatever anyone tells you, they all have their eyesores as well as their beauty. It’s the same for Harrisburg. There are serious problems, but there is unparalleled beauty here, as well. One of my friends from Afghanistan came to visit me recently, and I will never forget her reaction as we drove into Harrisburg from the West Shore. It was no different from my reaction when I saw the Prague’s Charles Bridge for the first time. She was almost breathless with awe when she saw the arches of the bridges spanning the glistening waters of the Susquehanna. “How beautiful,” she sighed. “Yes,” I said with unabashed pride. “Harrisburg is quite a city! It’s now my home.”
