Following the 4 successful World Congresses on Vascular Access, WoCoVA is proud to announce the 5th World Congress to be held in Copenhagen, June 20 - 22, 2018, highlighting global vascular access issues, technology advances, evidence-based practices and a great opportunity to network with professionals from around the world.

This unique multidisciplinary and multi-professional event with attendees from more than 50 countries, will cover all aspects of vascular access: indications for the choice of the device, insertion techniques, tip location methods and prevention and management of all vascular access device (VAD) related complications, e.g. infection, thrombosis, occlusion, etc.

Topics on safety, cost effectiveness, care excellence and efficiency in vascular access, as well as the demand for globally shared guidelines for the clinical practice will be part of the WoCoVA scientific program.

Scientific and educational sessions hosted by the most important international experts will offer an exceptional occasion for updating knowledge in this specialty, sharing experiences and learning about future trends and innovations in the area of vascular access devices.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT WoCoVA2018 WoCoVA MISSION WoCoVA is a multi-disciplinary and multi-professional foundation promoting the science and practice of vascular access while developing consensus models for global standards of practice to improve patient care and outcomes.

WoCoVA strives to work inclusively with all professional organizations worldwide who are involved with vascular access to further enhance communication, education and clinical practice ideas.

The WoCoVA foundation is an incorporated organization which exists for educational promotion and for which its founders or trustees do not benefit financially. Any money earned is retained by the organization for future operations and programs. CONGRESSES WoCoVA organizes a biennial world congress and the goals and objectives are:

Advance and disseminate knowledge and technology to improve the quality of life and economic competitiveness worldwide

Encourage and support research to improve human health

Bring new technologies to a global audience.

CONGRESS TOPICS A preview of the scientific program of WoCoVA 2018 The theme of the conference will be “Patients first”, quite an appropriate topic if we consider that the commitment of the WoCoVA Foundation is to improve the quality of care of the patients requiring a vascular access all over the world.

All the most important aspects of vascular access will be discussed, from the socioeconomics problems to the organizational challenges, from basic research to everyday clinical practice.

We plan to structure the topics into five main headings: prevention, education, innovations, worldwide network, guidelines and consensus.

Prevention As it gets everyday clearer and clearer that our clinical goal must be the disappearance or at least the minimization of all possible risks related to venous access devices (so called ‘targeting zero’), different strategies will be discussed – in different sessions – for the effective improvement of the patient’s safety:

- an algorithm for choosing the most appropriate venous access device in terms of safety and clinical performance, in different clinical settings and in different categories of patients;

- evaluation of the most cost-effective strategies for avoiding insertion related complications, by the abolition of puncture-related injuries and of malposition;

- definition of a ‘bundle’ for reducing the risk of catheter-related thrombosis;

- discussion of the evidence based strategies for preventing catheter-related infections;

- presentation of the current recommendations for zeroing the incidence of lumen occlusion;

- how to avoid the risk of catheter dislodgment.

Targeting zero is not out of reach any more!

Education Education and training play a pivotal role in ensuring the appropriate quality of care: the risks of catheter-related complications can be avoided only if each health operator who chooses inserts and/or maintain a device is appropriately trained in these tasks.

All the major issues that still represent an obstacle in the education of physicians and nurses in the culture of venous access devices will be discussed. Different educational strategies will be presented, addressing all the most relevant and controversial aspects regarding the content and the structure of the training courses, the evaluation of the proficiency, and the tactics for training the trainers. As regards the latter, a specific course for trainers will be organized by the PICC Academy Network (the fifth edition since the beginning of this project) will be hosted by the conference.

CONGRESS TOPICS Innovations The world of venous access is continuously enriched by new technologies aiming to improve the quality of care: devices that are designed for a completely safe insertion (optimizing vein selection, venipuncture, tip navigation and tip location) as well as devices meant to reduce the incidence of infection, thrombosis, lumen occlusion and catheter dislodgement. All these new technologies – as well as new methods and new protocols – will be presented by the most important key opinion leaders in the scientific sessions of the conference and in specific satellite symposia and satellite workshops organized by our sponsors.

All novelties will be presented and discussed critically, in the effort of giving to the attendees a sneak preview of the future of venous access!

World Wide Network While WoCoVA can rely on representatives from more than 40 countries and all of them are enthusiastic and motivated to improve the quality of care in their own nation, still there are huge and deep differences among the policies of indication, insertion and maintenance of venous access devices all over the world. One of the institutional goals of WoCoVA is to facilitate the communication and the worldwide exchange of experiences, so to improve and spread the culture of venous access devices in every part of the world, with special attention to some aspects such as sharing common guidelines and policies, defining the need for certification of competence in the field of vascular access, facilitating international multicenter studies and discussing the different legal or ethical implications of venous access devices in different part of the world. No occasion is more adequate than the biennial conference for meeting these goals…

Guidelines and consensus

Last but not least, as the patient’s safety is related to the standardization of care and to the adherence to evidence based practical recommendations, we will have a special section dedicated to the many interesting evidence-based documents (guidelines, consensus, position papers) that have been released in the last two years. Many of these documents will be discussed with the vascular access societies and with committees who have develop them. In this regard, special sessions will be reserved to the most relevant national societies, which will present their projects, their activities and their achievements.

VENUE WoCoVA 2018 will be held at Tivoli Hotel & Congress Center in Copenhagen, Denmark. The venue is designed by Kim Utzon Architects. Tivoli Congress Hall offers capacity for up to 2,500 participants. Tivoli Hotel & Congress Center hold the Green Key environmental certificate and opened in 2010. It is located across the street from the harbour and around the corner from the Central Station, Tivoli Gardens and the city's main shopping areas, sights and attractions.

The exhibition will be a focal points of the congress. The programme is structured to optimize the opportunity for the participants to visit the exhibition and interact with the exhibitors. The exhibition stands are conveniently located next to the session halls and in the foyer. Buffets with food and coffee are placed in the exhibition area.

In the large foyer area in front of the Congress Hall, participants can network, enjoy lunch and refreshments and exhibitors will have an integrated and central location.

Tivoli Congress Center is located under the same roof as Tivoli Hotel**** and offers 679 hotel rooms and suites, three restaurants, fitness center, and a large swimming pool. Accordingly upon such cancellation, neither of the parties will make any claims, demands or take legal action towards the other.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS APPLICATION TO PARTICIPATE

EXHIBITION REGULATIONS

Application to participate will be considered only if, the appropriate forms are used for submission, duly. filled in and signed and accompanied by the necessary payment. Registration will be confirmed as far as space is available. Applicants will be informed in writing of the acceptance or refusal of their application. In the event of refusal all payments will be fully refunded.

The Exhibition Manager, acting under direction of the Organizing Committee, has the final decision as to the acceptability of displays.Exhibitors are not to share with others any space allotted to them without prior written consent by the Exhibition Manager. The organizer reserves the right to alter the general layout or limit the space allotted to each exhibitor, postpone the exhibition or transfer it to another site if unforeseen circumstances warrant such action . Should any contingency prevent the holding of the exhibition, the organizers will not be held liable for expenses other than the cost of exhibit space rental fees. All exhibits are to be displayed such as to avoid blocking aisles, obstructing adjoining booths, damaging the premises or the leased equipment. Exhibitors are kindly requested to allow sufficient see through areas that will ensure clear views of surrounding exhibits. In standard booths, height is restricted to 246cm. Exhibitors are responsible for the cost and execution of the design, installation and delivery of their display to (and its removal from) the exhibition site. Flammable materials are not to be used. Equipment displayed or demonstrated must be installed by strict adherence to safety measures. Exhibitors may not photograph or examine any exhibitors equipment without permission. Exhibitors undertake to observe the timetable designated for completion of their display before the exhibition opening and its dismantling at the close of the exhibition. No display may be dismantled or packing started before the designated hour. It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to pack and remove or consign for shipment all items of value prior to leaving their exhibit unattended otherwise the organizer will arrange for their removal at the exhibitor's risk and expenses. Exhibitors are obliged to ensure that their stands are permanently manned during the exhibition opening hours. Payment is to be made in accordance with the conditions of payment on the exhibition application form. Should the exhibitor fail to make a payment on time, the exhibition manager is entitled to terminate the contract, withdraw confirmation of acceptance make other arrangements for the stand or seek compensation for non-fulfillment of contract. Participation by exhibitors is dependent upon compliance with all rules, regulations and conditions stated herein. Access to the exhibition is authorized on presentation of a badge issued by the organizer. Exhibitors badges will not be mailed in advance and may be collected from the registration desk. The organizer ensures daily cleaning of the aisles. Exhibitors are responsible for the cleaning of their stands. The provision of refreshments to the participants by exhibitors is only permitted if the catering regulations of the exhibition building concerned are observed. Exhibition areas and fittings made available to exhibitors must be handed back in their original condition. in case of damage or loss of equipment provided, or damage to areas occupied, repair and replacement will be charged to the exhibitor Any special decoration or fittings must be submitted to the organizer for prior authorization. Advertising panels and display are not permitted outside the exhibition areas allotted to exhibitors nor is conversing or distributing any materials or product samples outside of the exhibitor’s own space. The

OBLIGATION AND RIGHTS OF EXHIBITOR

Registration implies full acceptance by the exhibitors of the exhibition regulations. Any infringement of these regulations may lead to immediate withdrawal of the right to participate in the exhibition without compensation or refund of sums already paid and without prejudice to the exhibitor. By submitting an application to participate, the exhibitor makes a final and irrevocable commitment to occupy the space allocated and to maintain his/her installation until the date and time fixed for closure of the exhibition. The exhibitor may only present on his/her stand or space the materials, products or services described in the application to participate. No advertising on behalf of firms not exhibiting is permitted in any form whatsoever. Transfer or sub-letting of all or part of the allocated spaces is prohibited.

OBLIGATION AND RIGHTS OF ORGANIZER

The organizer undertakes to allocate exhibition space as far as possible on the basis of the preference expressed by applicants. Application will be considered in order of reception of application forms accompanied by payment. The organizer reserves the right, in case of absolute necessity, to modify the positioning of stands, with no obligation to provide compensation to exhibitors. The organizer reserves the right to offer to a different firm any stand or space that has not been occupied by the morning of the opening of the exhibition, with no obligation to provide compensation to the defaulting exhibitor.

LIABILITY INSURANCE

The organizer provides general guard service and third party insurance at the exhibition site. Equipment and all related display materials installed by exhibitors are not insured by the organizer, and the organizers will under no circumstances be liable for any loss, damage or destruction caused to equipment, goods or property belonging to exhibitors. The exhibitor agrees to be responsible for his property and persons and for the property and persons of his employees and agents through full and comprehensive insurance, and the organizers will not be responsible for any damage claims arising from theft and those penalties usually covered by a fire and extended coverage policy.

organizers will not approve stands, which do not comply with the accepted standers, until the necessary changes have been made.

CANCELLATION OR CHANGE OF EVENT

WoCoVA may, at any time in its sole discretion, change the Event date or the Event site or cancel the E v e n t . I n s u c h a n e v e n t , Wo C o VA ´ s s o l e responsibility and liability to participating company shall be to (a) notify participating company as far in advance as feasible of such changes or cancellation, and (b) in the event that the Event is canceled, or the participating company cannot attend the Event during the rescheduled time period of or at the rescheduled site, to refund all deposits monies previously paid by participating company with respect to such Event. Should WoCoVA terminate the Event pursuant to the provisions of this section, participation company hereby waives any claim for damage arising there from. “Neither party shall perform any actions that are prohibited by local and other anti-corruption laws (including the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, collectively “Anti-Corruption Laws”) that may be applicable to one or both parties to the Agreement. Without limiting the foregoing, neither party shall make any payments, or offer or transfer anything of value, to any government official or government employee, to any political party official or candidate for political office or to any other third party related to the transaction in a manner that would violate Anti-Corruption Laws.”

INDUSTRY CODES OF PRACTICE

All Exhibitors and Supporting Companies must comply with applicable national and international rules, regulations and industry standards regarding exhibition areas. Failure to comply with these regulations may not be used as a ground to declare the contract void. Failure to comply with the Rules and Regulations will not expose the Organizer to any suits, demands by the Supporters/Exhibitor/any third party. Codes which should be at least, but not limited to, complied with are: EFPIA Code (website) and EthicalMedTech (website).

CME

Absolutely no promotional activities will be permitted in the same room immediately prior to, during, or after a CME activity. Exhibit materials must be in a room or area separate from the education and the exhibits must not interfere, or in any way, compete with the learning experience. All promotional activities including interviews, demonstrations, and the distribution of literature or samples must be made within the exhibitor’s space only; canvassing or distributing promotional materials outside the exhibitor’s rented exhibit space is not permitted, if not approved by the Exhibition Manager upfront
