Can you feel it? As the leaves rustle with the brisk fall breeze, a wind of excitement is also shifting the atmosphere towards missional disciple-making.
In response to your expressed needs, our team has experienced an increase in travel around the state of Texas and beyond, and we know God is working. Not only are you seeking more opportunities to be equipped in missional disciple-making, but you are also eager to download and share the new resources available through WMU of Texas. With the five new biblical mentoring resources, we hope you engage in more intentional discipleship in your churches, communities, and even in your homes.
From the retreats in West Texas to the community home build in the Valley, you are allowing God to use your hands and feet to share love and show Christ. There have been Christian Job Corps celebrations of God’s faithfulness over the years and opportunities to honor the lives of leaders sent by God to continue the work of the ministry. We are in a season of fruitfulness and impact, and for that, we are grateful.
As we pray earnestly for the harvest, we also pray that you will find the stories and information included in the following pages useful for your God-given assignment. There are opportunities for all age levels to engage in missions. May the Lord bless you as you continue to serve!

¿Puedes sentirla?

FROM THE DESK OF THE
My first mission trip was while I was in high school. Our youth minister took us across town to conduct VBS. This was in the early 70’s and our two community schools had been recently consolidated into one. Our Caucasian youth group went to serve WITH our African American school friends. This was a turning point for both groups of high school students.
As we served TOGETHER, we saw our similarities rather than our differences. We all loved Jesus and wanted to show that love to the children that came to VBS that week. Whose lives were changed the most? I dare say, the high schoolers. What an impact this had on my life.
As adults, what are some ways that we can “go and be” on mission for Jesus? What can that look like for an adult?
We can identify ways to meet needs, opening the door for eternal conversations about entering into a relationship with Jesus. This going might be across the street, across town, or across an ocean. Our going has no geographical boundaries.
We can initiate and organize a mission trip. On the WMU of Texas website, there is a tab titled “Get Involved.” Under that tab is a list of ministries. I suggest that you click on the Border Ministries link. This will give you a list of ways that you can get involved with Vanessa Lerma, our WMU of Texas Border Missionary. There are a range of missions opportunities that represent the needs of people living along the Border. You and a team from your church interacting with individuals while showing them who is Jesus will change lives. It might well be your own life that is changed.
In August of 2025, I had the opportunity to join Vanessa, along with a team from WMU of Texas, to participate in two days of meeting needs and ministering to individuals. The project Serve Brownsville centered around two block parties hosted by two different churches in the community. There were a variety of activities for children to participate in, along with making bracelets that told the salvation story. Backpacks with school supplies were distributed, shoes were selected to start the new school year, and Gospel-centered conversations were had during the block party.
While the phrase “its not about me” is true. We were there to be the hands, feet, and voice of the Gospel message. However, let us not forget that serving does change us. It changes our perspective, our giving, our praying, our obedience.
Where will you choose to serve today?
JACKIE FAUGHN
PRESIDENT, WMU OF TEXAS
Cambia nuestra perspectiva, nuestra generosidad, nuestras oraciones, nuestra obediencia.
¿Dónde elegirás servir hoy?

While each Bible study is designed to be self-contained, completing all five will equip you and those you disciple to live on mission by:
• Growing as missional disciples through Bible study.
• Learning to intentionally pray for personal growth and for others God places in your path.
• Sharing your faith with others.
• Multiplying disciple-makers.

A Summer MI SS ION S OF
Growing Young Hearts for God’s Mission.
2025 CHILDREN’S MISSION DAY
BY MARISOL SANDOVAL, FORMER AGE-LEVEL STRATEGIST, WMU OF TEXAS
On September 20, 2025, the WMU of Texas office welcomed a very special group of visitors: children from churches across the Dallas area for Children’s Missions Day. The theme verse for the day was Acts 22:15 (NIrV): “Now you will tell everyone about what you have seen and heard.”
To help bring this verse to life, we invited missionaries to share their stories and show the children how they, too, can be part of God’s mission. (Due to the dangerous locations where the missionaries serve, we cannot share their names or pictures for their safety.)
Our afternoon began with a missionary family serving in Africa, who are currently staying at Mary’s House, a WMU of Texas stateside home for missionaries. They did an outstanding job describing the daily life of a missionary family. They shared how every family member, from the youngest to the oldest, contributes to their mission. They sang songs in their own language, making learning a new language seem accessible and enjoyable. Additionally, they wore authentic clothing that showcased their culture.
Afterwards, we took some time to get to know one another better. It was heartwarming to see the little kids come out of their shells and mingle with one another. We engaged in activities that encouraged them to share their thoughts on specific topics, and two responses stood out to me:
**Who is someone you need to pray for?**
“My dad’s sister and brother.”
This response was impactful because it showed that this little girl understood the importance of praying for her family members who need Jesus.
**What is a mission project you would like to do?**
“Women’s Build.”
This answer melted my heart. Even at such a young age, it was clear that the children were listening. They absorb the stories shared around the church, the videos shared during the Mary Hill Davis Week of Prayer, and they genuinely want to be part of these mission opportunities.
Our second missionary, who serves in South Asia, had also just moved into Mary’s House. We appreciated her willingness to share her experiences with our children. Dressed in her cultural clothing, she introduced the children to the culture, provided witnessing testimonies, and explained how they can share Jesus with others right where they are.
Now you will tell everyone about what you have seen and heard.
After spending more time in fellowship, the children had the opportunity to write encouraging Gospel cards to share with someone in their lives during the upcoming week. They enjoyed composing messages, drawing pictures, and decorating their cards with stickers.
We concluded the afternoon by praying for our missionaries, laying hands on them as we lifted them up to the Lord. It was a beautiful sight to see the children praying for the missionaries.
I am grateful for the leaders who work diligently to provide children with opportunities to learn about missions; they are truly great disciple-makers! We may not fully understand the impact of a day like Children’s Missions Day on the Kingdom of God until we reach heaven, but I am confident that we are witnessing the emergence of many future missionaries!
Children’s Mission Day takes place every September. Discover discipleship curriculum, activities, events, and resources for children and their leaders at wmutx.org/children

Tri-Rivers Baptist Area Hosts Groundbreaking Summer Retreats for Ministers’ Children
BY RICHARD RAY, DIRECTOR OF MISSIONS, TRI-RIVERS AREA BAPTIST ASSOCIATION
In a heartfelt initiative to honor and uplift the families of those in ministry, Tri-Rivers Baptist Area launched its firstever Minister’s Kids Vacation Packages—a pair of three-day retreats designed exclusively for boys and girls whose parents serve in ministerial roles.
The vision was cast by Director of Missions Rev. Richard Ray, himself a minister’s kid and father to minister’s kids, who recognized a gap in ministry care. “Many organizations offer retreats for ministers and their spouses,” Ray noted, “but few—if any—create space for their children to simply be kids.” Tri-Rivers Baptist Area stepped in to meet this need with joy, generosity, and spiritual purpose.
Hosted at the Tri-Rivers Retreat Center in Hico, Texas, the boys’ and girls’ retreats provided a full vacation experience: catered meals, games, bowling, arcade outings, pedicures for the girls, and a special trip to the set of The Chosen. A highlight for many was attending a Texas Rangers baseball game, where each child received two $50 gift cards—one for use at the stadium and one for the arcade.
Beyond the fun, each evening included heartfelt discussions about the unique challenges of growing up in ministry. “These kids often attend and serve at camps, VBS, and in the church” Ray shared. “This was their time to rest, connect, and be surrounded by others who understand their world.”
Rev. Ray emphasized that the success of these retreats was made possible through the dedicated volunteer efforts of Tri-Rivers staff: Talon Keeney (Associate Director), Kevin Miles (Strategic Ministry Director), Donna Trusty (Women’s Ministry Director), and Chrissy Cerda (Retreat Center Staff). “Their servant hearts and joyful leadership brought this vision to life,” Ray said. The impact was immediate and lasting. Participants formed deep bonds, many of which have continued beyond the retreat. Parents expressed profound gratitude, sharing how the experience strengthened their families and encouraged their ministries.
Tri-Rivers Baptist Area remains committed to caring for the whole ministry family—body, mind, and spirit—and plans to continue this transformative outreach in the years ahead.
HOW TO BLESS MINISTRY FAMILIES IN YOUR COMMUNITY
Investing in the children of ministry families can be instrumental in their faith journey. Creating an experience for ministers’ kids is an excellent way to bless the ministry families in your community.
• Consider partnering with your association or other local churches to provide a special time for the children of ministers. Visit wmutx.org/associations to find your local Baptist association.
• Reach out to local churches that may be able to provide funding for the event.
• Plan this as you would plan your family vacation. Consider things that kids enjoy.
• Consider hosting two separate events, one for boys and one for girls. This gives each group a chance to be themselves and enjoy genderspecific activities.
• Providing guided time in the evening is a great opportunity to help ministers’ kids develop strategies for navigating their unique challenges and opportunities.
• Give kids space to just enjoy themselves and have fun!

Serve Brownsville
A SUMMER MISSIONS EXPERIENCE
BY TERI USSERY, ADULT STRATEGIST, WMU OF TEXAS
As Christ-followers, we are called to minister to the people, wherever God calls. People who need to experience hope. People who need to know that someone loves them. People who need to meet a Savior who can provide for all their needs and give direction for their journey.
Mission trips often provide an opportunity for Christ-followers to step into and out of the lives of those they serve. There for a few days, then back to everyday life. However, the Great Commission doesn’t call us to pop in and pop out of people’s lives. Jesus’ command is to make disciples as we are going.
Making disciples requires commitment. It requires an investment in the lives of others. When this short-term mission team came to a town, in this case, Brownsville, we sought to be an encouragement and catalyst for ministry that invested in the churches hosting our team.
Church members were quick to join us as we hosted Serve Brownsville, a back-to-school event complete with games and activities for children and families, food, fun, backpacks, and shoes, and an overt sharing of the Gospel.
As Christ-followers, we are called to minister to people who need to experience hope. Enjoy these reflections from our team members.
A CHURCH’S LOVE FOR THEIR COMMUNITY
My heart was touched by the commitment and passion of the pastor and his wife at Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana and the pastor of Iglesia Bautista Horeb. While our team came in with a desire to share the Gospel and minister, these new friends are truly the dayto-day hands and feet of Jesus. I was struck by how deeply they love their community and how they long to share Jesus.
- Teri Ussery, Serve Browsville Co-Leader
GOD PROVIDED FOR A FAMILY IN NEED
A mom came in with her kids and her sister’s kids, totaling 10 kids. She explained that my sister is working and couldn’t bring them, but I made a point to get all of them. So they could have the essential school supplies for school. They had a need, God provided through so many, and the family was impacted and blessed.
- Vanessa Lerma, Serve Browsville Co-Leader
BACKPACKS AND JESUS
There were so many amazing opportunities to share Jesus in Brownsville. One of these opportunities was having Gospel conversations with students when they picked out a backpack. I could share how much Jesus loves them. “When you unzip your backpack and it’s a bad day, remember how much Jesus loves you. When you are having a good day, remember how much He loves you. “
- Jackie Faughn, WMU of Texas President
Sharing hope brought smiles and sweet thank yous. One of the stations was “Share Hope” (packing paper colored by children for families to be used after a disaster), but really, each station SHARED HOPE by the activities that were offered (salvation bracelets and Gospel coloring books). The volunteers shared hope with their smiles and distribution of backpacks and shoes.
While our team made an impact in the lives of those within the community and provided encouragement to the Family of God who ministers there every day, we can continue to have an effect through our prayers. We may have physically left Brownsville, but perhaps each of us left a piece of our heart behind for the people we served in South Texas.
What can you do to be a part of the ministry there? First, pray…
• Pray for the impact of Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana and Iglesia Bautista Horeb. These two churches are deep in the heart of the communities they serve.
• Pray for salvation for the people in the community.
• Pray that God would bring hope to those who live without hope and encouragement.
• Pray for the practical needs of the community to be met.
• Pray for Vanessa Lerma, WMU of Texas Border Missionary, as she and her husband, Osvaldo (Send Relief, North American Mission Board), share Jesus along the southern border.
Second, be on mission where you live.
There is an old Steve Green worship song that goes like this:
People need the Lord. People need the Lord.
At the end of broken dreams, He’s the open door.
People need the Lord. People need the Lord. When will we realize that people need the Lord?
This season, see the broken dreams that surround your community. And ask yourself, when will I realize that people need the Lord? Will I be the one to share the hope of Christ in my own community?

POR IRMA YNOSTROSA, HISPANIC MINISTRIES CONSULTANT, WMU OF TEXAS

Masterpiece” is an outreach event designed for college girls from international and diverse faith backgrounds, creating a welcoming space to hear the Gospel, have fun, grow spiritually, and build community. This gathering launches a oneday girls’ ministry event on college campuses where friendships flourish, faith grows, and every girl discovers she is loved and valued because she is God’s masterpiece.
Our first Masterpiece event was a remarkable success, drawing over 50 attendees who eagerly participated in the activities. The event kicked off in partnership with Baptist Student Ministry (BSM) at Dallas College Richland Campus. From interactive and meaningful conversations to inspiring speakers and faith-centered discussions on emotional intelligence, leadership growth, wellness, self-care, and spiritual development, the event provided a safe and vibrant environment for students to connect with one another. Leaders and volunteers shared encouragement, biblical truths, and practical insights to help students navigate life on campus while growing in their faith.
The energy and joy were palpable as students laughed, shared experiences, and formed new friendships that will continue beyond the event. Masterpiece not only provided a fun and welcoming atmosphere but also planted seeds of the Gospel, spiritual growth, and discipleship for the college girls.
This event marks just the beginning of an ongoing ministry that seeks to reach international college girls, empowering them to thrive in faith in Jesus, community, identity, and purpose.
Join as a volunteer and bring Masterpiece to your campus or church! Help international college girls experience the Gospel, make friends, have fun, and discover their identity as God’s beloved!

THE IMPACT OF CHRISTIAN JOB CORPS
“When I became pastor of a church in Burnet, Texas, I quickly connected with the Christian Women’s Job Corps (CWJC). What began as casual visits with the ladies in the program soon evolved into a deeper involvement. I witnessed lives transformed under the loving guidance of Director Margaret Sullivan and a team of faithful volunteers. Women came in unsure and left confident, sharing their testimonies at graduation with boldness. Over the course of 12 sessions, I came to believe wholeheartedly in the power of CWJC.
CWJC reflects the Great Commission in action (Matthew 28:1920). It equips women not just with job skills, but with spiritual growth, community, and the confidence to thrive. It’s a ministry of transformation—for individuals, churches, and communities. Now in Grand Prairie, I pray for that same impact through CWJC-GP housed at Inglewood Baptist Church.”
Ricky Guenther , Pastor, Inglewood Baptist Church, Grand Prairie
“Several years ago, four ladies came to my office with a vision to encourage, empower, and equip women for life. Our church became the first site for CWJC-Grand Prairie and is a monthly financial supporter. Women gain more than computer skills—they grow through mentorship, prayer, and Bible study. Many leave feeling spiritually empowered and self-assured to enter the workforce. We have seen how investing in the lives of women extends beyond the classroom setting. We believe that by providing space and financially supporting them, we can join CWJC-GP to ‘go and make disciples’.
Both churches have seen how CWJC changes lives. Don’t miss the blessing. Get involved, support, or start one. CWJC is a powerful, effective way to make disciples and share the love of Jesus.”
Dr. Charles Smith , Minister of Education, First Baptist ChurchGrand Prairie, and CWJC-GP Board President
THE MEN’S FIELDHOUSE (CMJC), LUFKIN
Esther was a student who had so much joy, it was contagious! She was studious and took to heart what our classes taught her. Towards the end of our semester, she realized her dream of becoming a CNA was possible. God gave her the strength to research her options, and she was able to find a way to get her classes paid for in return for a commitment to working here for some time after she completed them. She did not waste any time! In fact, she started her CNA classes the day our classes at CWJC ended. Sometime later that summer, she stopped in my office to say hello and to pick up her graduation gifts. It was then that I learned that she had completed her training and was going to become a nurse! I was elated! It is always amazing to see how God strengthens us and makes our paths straight in the direction he leads. Congratulations, Esther! Keep your heart open to all that God has in store for you!
Sharon Maurer , Executive Director, CWJC Abilene

Pass the Salt Please
Matthew 5:13-16
Have you ever gone out to dinner, taken a bite, and then looked at someone at your table and said, “Pass the salt, please”? You might have thought that adding salt would make the food taste better.
In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells us, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.”
As Christians, we are the salt Jesus needs as His disciples to lead others to Him. Our salt helps preserve mankind and keeps him from going astray. It adds value to others’ lives as we treat them with kindness and show them the love of God. Our salt shows others that we are set apart from the world, to be used by God.
Our salt witnesses to others and encourages them to do the same— disciples making disciples.
Your salt will never lose its flavor because you pray daily, read and meditate on God’s Word, attend worship services, and participate in mission activities. We are the salt Jesus needs—followers who will follow Him, lead others to Him, and help make our world a better place.
Look at your neighbor and say, “Pass the salt, please!”
Pray for the student missionaries as they share the gospel throughout the world. Open hearts to receive your Word and prepare those to go where you send them. Provide every resource needed so that no soul goes unreached.
