Hello everyone, and happy summer! My name is Jake Miller, and I am happy to be serving as president of the WMDDS. A special thank you to Dr. Sarah Lennan Masterson for all her hard work as president last year. I live in Rockford and practice on the north end of Grand Rapids. I have a wonderful wife, Mandy, and three amazing kids: Hadley (9), Jude (7), and Marlowe (5 months). I’ve truly enjoyed my experience with organized dentistry and would encourage anyone with interest to get involved.

Being involved and having a voice in dentistry’s direction can be very rewarding. It’s also fun to be “in the know” about developing topics. But do you know what I like most about organized dentistry in West Michigan? The people. I have met so many great people over the past few years, and I feel very fortunate to have that network.

Without our community, becoming isolated in practice would be very easy. When I was beginning my career, people reached out to me just to check in and later to help me get involved. It is important to have colleagues to share our successes and failures with. It increases our collective knowledge and lets us cut loose every once in a while with a good laugh. Continue to build those relationships. They are so valuable!

I feel very lucky to be practicing in West Michigan. I’ve had some amazing mentors and made lifelong friends. We have a passionate core group of people who are looking out for our best interests in dentistry. I’m so happy to be sharing dentistry with all of you. Thanks for being such great neighbors.
