SGA focuses on mental health awareness

The Student Government Association will host a Mental Health Awareness Week as part of a new bill passed on Tuesday.
SGA will host a different event for each day during the week of Nov. 3-7, including a day for students to write positive affirmations in chalk on the sidewalks, and a day where students can write positive messages on sticky notes to give to other students around campus.

“What happens when there’s no chance for redemption, when the species’ survival is no longer possible,” Sarah McFarland asked.
Sarah McFarland, a professor at Northwestern State University, spoke in Grise Hall, Tuesday, on eco-collapsing fiction, discussing how speculative literature can help us address the potential of human extinction due to climate change. McFarland is the author of “Eco Collapse Fiction and Cultures of Human Extinction” and has published numerous articles and books on ecocriticism.

WKU Men’s Basketball is wrapping up its exhibition games on Wednesday night with a road matchup against UAB. This is the second straight season they will meet for an exhibition.
“This will be a real, fake test against UAB. We will stay more focused on ourselves, but obviously, we will do everything we can. Like a test run for a road game here this week,” Head Coach Hank Plona said.
The new-look Hilltoppers come off an exhibition game against Kentucky Wesleyan on Wednesday. After a shaky first half, the Hilltoppers picked up the victory 82-43.

WKU Women’s Basketball prepares for exhibition with Lindsey Wilson

WKU Women’s Basketball begins its 2025-26 season with an exhibition game against the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders Wednesday at Diddle Arena.
A semifinal loss to Middle Tennessee State in the Conference USA tournament concluded the Lady Toppers’ 2024-25 season. WKU lost six players to either graduation or the transfer portal following the loss, including leading scorers Alexis Mead and Josie Gilvin.
With many shoes to fill, senior forward Zsofia Telegdy and sophomore guard Trinity Rowe inherit “a big role” on the team this season, according to Head Coach Greg Collins.
