DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS The Moeller Band program offers students the opportunity to participate in Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band and Pit Orchestra. The Band takes a trip to a major city every two years, to perform, attend workshops, and enjoy cultural highlights. The most recent trip was to Chicago in the spring of 2015. Past trips include several visits to New York City, Boston, and Washington, D.C.

The Moeller Band has produced numerous college music majors and professional musicians over the years, who are now performing in symphony orchestras, Broadway shows, and teaching in elementary and secondary schools, and even college.

The Fine Arts Survey is for students who elect not to participate in a performing group. This course offers the students an overview of the various fine & performing arts. Most students are enrolled in some type of arts class their freshman year.

The Moeller Men’s Chorus is an ethusiastic group of multi-talented students, seniors through freshmen. The Vocal Ensemble is a select group of juniors and seniors who are active in many school and community performances.

Juniors and seniors with significant musical experience may elect to take Music Theory (Honors).

The Chorus has hosted several concerts and workshops with the Kent State and Ohio Nothern University choruses at Moeller, and has traveled to Los Angeles and St. Louis to give perfomances and participate in cultural avctivities, service projects, and sightseeing.

DEPARTMENTAL OUTCOMES The purposes of the Music programs at Moeller High Schools: 1. To develop the musical abilities and provide musical knowledge that will enable each individual to enjoy a lifetime of musical participation. 2. To instill in each student an awareness of the importance of music in the development of the human spirit. 3. To develop in each individual the habits of responsibility and preparation, in an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork. 4. To develop the leadership potential of each student.

PROJECTS The Moeller Men’s Chorus performs at all the school liturgies during the school year, and present a full concert at the end of each quarter. Many chorus members are also involved in the spring musical theater production. Moeller Band members take private lessons from the best are musicians, and all participate in the OMEA Solo and Ensemble Contest. In recent years approximately 70% have achieved the “Superior” rating, with almost all the rest earning the second rating. One of the highlights of the school year is the Annual Band and Chorus Concert, to be held this year on Sunday, December 13. All are welcome!
