The pieces in this collection were patterned according to the Golden Proportion. Pieces also demonstrate the proportion when layered and worn together.
Is the proportion an aspect of divinity or simply mathematics? Can the proportion be found in seemingly unknown places by simply searching for it?
The human brain strives to make sense of chaos/randomness, to control and find order/patterns.
When the proportion is found is its use always intentional or can it be simply coincidental?

Inspiration/Reference: Fibonacci Sequence. Golden Proportion. (Sunflower/ Pinecone).
The Fibonacci Sequence and Golden Proportion occur in nature, architecture, art and arguably in anatomy and genetics.
If it is coincidental, does that speak to the nature of its mysticism in that it occurs in a work without clear intent?
Is it coincidental that the proportion occurs in places that are seemingly visually pleasing?
Is the pattern’s existence simply humans attempting to make order out of randomness?

Artists Statement/Analysis of F/W 20-21 Collection ‘Trapped In A Room With A Coyote & A Loaded Gun’
The overarching elements of this collection are expressed in the form of the Diamond and the Triangle. The Diamond is our viewpoint into the performance. We are stuck on the outside watching the performance through the gate—a look into the struggle between Beuys and the Coyote. Symbolically, Beuys and the Coyote are representative of any two entities that are at opposition. Metaphorically, it is the viewpoint into the struggle we face, or have the opportunity to face daily. The Triangle throughout the performance acts as a signifier for the Coyote. Beuys wears the triangle around his neck and hits it when he feeds the Coyote. Metaphorically in this interpretation the Triangle acts as the signifier for people as well. The signifier is a statement, a word, an idea, a person. The signified is our association that we have to the signifier. Everyone’s associations are different, but they are present, even if subliminal. The message of Beuys’s performance is that in order to Co-Exist (oppositions) (Beuys & Coyote) there must be time spent together (Beuys and the Coyote). Further, attention must be drawn to the associations that we form all the time, along with a surrendering of ego and these pre-conceived ideations in order to follow the process, also best depicted in a Triangle of Surrender, Learn, & Understand.
Overarching themes: Signifier/Signified. Message of Co-Existing. Surrender, Learn, Understand. Dichotomy of people.
Elements of this principle are represented in the pockets of various garments. Pockets that appear to have one point of entry but turn out to be faux. The stacks of pants and sleeves that hide part of the garment itself. Bags that are convertible and possess the ability to transform from large to small. Extended necks that hide and protect the wearer. You must detach from preconceived notions and re-evaluate what it is you think you know.
This collection references Joseph Beuys's 1974 performance piece, “I Like America & America Likes Me”. The following analysis is interpreted from Beuys’s initial explanation of his performance piece, and is re-interpreted to suggest an alternate explanation, as well as a more extensive analysis of the central theme Beuys was expressing.
Surrender is a large concept of the interpretation of this collection. Surrendering of ego & associations in order to learn and understand. Not simply referring to the Dominant vs Submissive or Majority vs Minority, but any clashing of opposition that occurs. In any instance when two parties disagree there must be a process of surrendering, learning, and understanding. Reference above.
F/W 20-21 Entitled ‘Trapped In A Room With A Coyote & A Loaded Gun’, encompasses these ideologies and interprets them into various physical and meta-physical elements.
The final interpretation of this piece is examining the dichotomy of people. People exist in a complex realm and therefore are naturally complex. They are never just one thing. People have the ability to be multiple things simultaneously and change unbeknownst to others.
