STUDENTENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATIONAND DEVELOPMENT

TheSEEDprogrammeismeantforthe developmentofemergingstudent entrepreneurswhowilldrivemeasurablesocioeconomicimpact.Throughvariousactivities, SEEDoffersacombinationofpracticalskills, organisedknowledge,andproactivesupportfor studententrepreneurstocommenceand succeedintheirentrepreneurialjourney.

TheuniversitythroughtheDevelopmentand LeadershipUnithaspartneredwiththeYoung AfricanEntrepreneursInstitutefor implementationinlinewiththeWitsInnovation Centrestrategy. 2023WITS ProgrammePeriod

TheEDHELekgotlaispartoftheSEEDprogrammewhich aimstobe relevantandinteractivewhileencouragingadiversityof perspectivesandvoices. Thesessionsaredesignedwithinanaction-focusedframework withadeliberatesequencing,focusandflow,ie showcasing initiatives,learning,practicesandpolicies,engagementwithnew thinkingandideas,andlaunchingnewinitiativesandprogrammes

Specifically,theEDHELekgotlalfeaturesthreeformsof engagement,alignedwitheachofthethreegoalsofEDHE,ie

ashowcase,aimedatintroducingexamplesofleadinggood practicethatwouldinspireandequipparticipants; athinktank,aimedatengagingthoughtleadersinanattempt tograpplewithandproposestrategicsolutionstochallenges facedintheuniversityentrepreneurshipenvironment;and alaunchpadofnewand/orexistinginitiatives,aimedat aligningtheshowcaseandthinktankoutcomeswiththe mobilisationofpotentiallyhighimpactEDHEinitiatives,thus ensuringthatthelekgotla,inthetrueEDHEspirit,culminatesin actionandecosystemicchange

SEED Objectives

· To cultivate entrepreneurial mindset through entrepreneurship education.

· To create a network and support system for collaboration.

· To create a well-coordinated and structured support system for increased exposure and leadership development.

EDHEIntervarsity Trainings

TheEDHEintervarsitycompetitionisanannualevent whichaimsat identifyingthetopstudent entrepreneursattheSouthAfricanpublic universities,recogniseandshowcasetheir businesses,andinviteinvestmentintothiscohortof studentbusinesses.TheSEEDprogrammeoffers supportinformsoftraining,consultationand mentorshipinpreparationfortheEDHEintervarsity competitionforentrepreneurs. Thecompetitionprovidesopportunityforaspiring entrepreneursintheideationphasetopitchtheir innovativebusinessideas.Intheprocess,universitieswill havetheopportunitytoshowcasetheirentrepreneurial talentanddemonstratethewaysinwhichtheysupport andgrowthenextgenerationofbusinessleaders.
