School of Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB) A student registered in the School of Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB) will be majoring (or intending to) in at least one of the following courses offered at third year level: Applied Bioinformatics III, Biochemistry and Cell Biology III; Genetics and Developmental Biology III; and Microbiology and Biotechnology III. Students may major in two of the four courses offered in the school of Molecular Cell Biology (see above). This requires that the appropriate courses be completed at both second and third year levels. Alternatively, students can major in one course from within the School and one major from outside as specified below. Second year Students need to achieve a total of 144 credits at the second year level. Students wishing to enter the third year of study with two majors in MCB must register for the following: • MCB IIA: Molecular Processes MCBG 2038A, (48 credits - B slot) - (Old Course Code: MCB IIA: Scientific Practice MCBG2036A) • MCB IIB: Cells and Organisms MCBG 2039A, (48 credits - C slot) - (Old Course Code: MCB IIB: Concepts MCBG2032A) • MCB IIC: Applications MCBG 2037A (48 credits - E slot) – is highly recommended and is a prerequisite for an MCB Double Major. Students wishing to enter the third year of study with a single major in MCB and a major in another School (e.g. Chemistry, Physiology) must consult the Heads of Schools to check on timetable requirements and ensure there are no timetable clashes. In this instance students must register for the following: • • •
MCB IIA: Molecular Processes MCBG 2038A, (48 credits - B slot) – (Old Course Code: MCB IIA: Scientific Practice MCBG2036A) MCB IIB: Cells and Organisms MCBG 2039A, (48 credits - C slot) – (Old Course Code: MCB IIB: Concepts MCBG2032A) MAJOR in another School (48 credits) Note: MCBG 2038A (Molecular Processes) takes place in both B and C slots in Semester 1, and MCBG2039A (Cells and Organisms) takes place in both B and C slots in Semester 2. As such the B and C slots are full for the entire year, and you should not register for any other courses that take place in the B and C slots.
