This year’s exhibition is a reference to the original vision to make meetings at Pryzmat Gallery a generation confrontation of creative attitudes of the community of educators students, PhD students and graduates making up the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. The intention of the exhibition is to present the Academy as artistic space forming generations of artists. The introduction to the catalogue of the first exhibition in 2015 referred to the fundamental role of pedagogy of education in the context of the mission and strategy of our academy. The vision of exhibitions being of demonstration of „Krakow’s art breeding ground” is the answer to the „public order” present in the space of social cultural-formative relations, which, in practice, is to be an annual „night out on the town” and the answer to the question what actually goes on at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków? In the social context, it is a form promotion of the Faculty, of the effects of education and a creative dialoguem which is initiated in the individual studios of the Faculty of Painting. „With Thought. Speech. Image.” touches a widely understood essence of creativity. Experiences of a human being-person-creator in their work. The path that leads through the moment of individual awareness of the creator reflected in the awareness of the viewer is a particular moment of emergence and understanding of culture. The moment of getting to know the author of a work. Creativity is an action, in which a human being, acting consciously, is aware that they act - and is aware of acting consciously. The reflexive function of awareness forming the experiencing enables experiencing one’s own subjectivity and empowerment in the creative process. Not only are we aware of what we are doing, what is happening in the creative process, but we experience it. We are aware of the subjectivity of our deeds. It is an extremely significant moment of the creative process showing it as if, from the beginning, a thought process, thus denying the persisting consent that has been repeated for years in Polish culture, of which Czapski wrote, with the pain in his heart, that a painter may be stupid. Such understanding of „stupidity” boils awareness down to sensing the phenomena without the participation of reason. Czapski particularly strongly emphasised the important role of creative work. Of mental following the colour harmony, notional building of beauty of a painting. Painting with the head and in the head contradicts the statement that the painter’s word is only senses. A thought converted into speech, image is a conscious casual act forming a human being. So a human being is a work for themselves. As a consequence of an act, they become someone or some type of someone. Therefore the shape of our art has considerable meaning for what we are. This creative moment of updating a human being is associated with uniqueness method of interiorising the reality. Understanding the perception and the method of forming all notions. The question about the essence of the artistic truth points to a discrepancy between the aspect truth of the image and its actual image without a context. What is the artistic truth of the image expressed in relation to the truth of the reality surrounding us?

The title phrase of the project „With Thought. Speech. Image.” which, in intention of its author, Artur Kapturski, is to be a generation confrontation of creative attitudes of the community of educators, students, PhD students and graduates making up the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, set in motion a series of thoughts, doubts, uncertainties and premonitions in my mind. These three nouns used in the instrumental case separated with full stops seem to suggest that the though and its verbal artistic articulations are treated by the originator of the exhibition as tools. Namely, in agreement with the presented artistic intention, I reach out for adequate tools and with them I treat the matter. I sound relatively sensible, but the selection of title notions seems to be too arbitrary. Because why not „With Though. Gesture. Shape”? Since these articulation paths may be artistically prolific and in fact we often see that art walks hand in hand with the word and gesticulation. Generally, I have an impression that tracks set long ago in agreement with the classical fields for the walks of the Queen of Beauty ceased to be sufficient for her in peregrinating human minds and hearts. She loves walking between, jump from path to path, merge them into one, lay false trails, raking through thick bushes of yet unrecognised languages, media and tools, frolic with the outrage of cultivators and flirt with young men unworthy of the name of true artists, but above all, annex new territories to her kingdom, paying no heed to an ominous hiss of the enraged priests of media purity. This is what Art is and such is her obedient servant the Academy. For ages and invariably we have cultivated fertile fields of painting, happening, design, graphics, architecture, scenography, digital media, sculpture, film, we preserve and nurture them with care, trying at the same time to blow up each of these flower beds. In this wicked pyromaniac procedure, students and PhD students, guided by allergy to being ossified, take the lead. It is they, not understanding much yet, who can make attempts to grow carrots on marble. The older ones, apparently level-headed, are sometimes a match for them in those attempts. Everyone is planting, cultivating, nurturing, learning, uprooting, experimenting, testing and arguing with one another about who does it most beautifully. Indeed, it is a beautiful quarrel, how invigorating disagreement and how ethereal artistic consensuses in their ephemerality. The vitality of our Alma Mater lies in disagreements. A real coincidentia oppositorum. What do we have in common? Reflections on art, talks held about it and, above all, the works of the young people, inexperienced, fiercely focused on building the foundations of their artistic attitude, and of the older, mature, experienced ones, fervent in sharing what they themselves have acquired over the years. Look how incredible strength exists in this Faustian twist of youth’s cockiness and wisdom, and experience of an old person in one academic organism, and see how we draw on from one another, how artistic reflections of students and professors intermingle, how their works talk with one another, the friction existing between them and what kind of spiritual energies these neighbourhoods give birth to.
