Precedent Study - Unite d’Habitation Professor: J.P Allen - Jen Lee Michaliszyn Fall 2016
The Unite d’Habitation is a residential building designed by world renowed architect Le Corbusier following World War II. The residential building was constructed from rough cast concrete as the hope for steel frame construction became too expensive as a result of post war shortages. The buildings architecture distinguishes a clear representation of Corbusiers five main ponts. Pilotis - series of reinforced concrete columns bearing sturctural loads, free design of ground plan - building becomes urested in internal use, free design facade - seperating the exterior of the building from its structural system, the horizontal window, and the roof garden - providing space for communal use.
