FIBEROPTICS

BIOGRAPHY

Abigail loves studying humannature, traveling to big cities, and returning to her garden studio in Oconomowoc,Wisconsin. She paints, draws, and felts as an expression of empathy and celebration of life on Earth. She engages people with her live portraits and personalized commissions.A lover of puns, pareidolia, points of view, and repurposing, she believes fibers lend symbolic depth and warmth beyond paint. Her felts have been featured in FAN magazine, and juried shows in Milwaukee and Chicago.

ARTISTSTATEMENT

I literally and figuratively try to make connectionswith my pictures. I want to share visions, feelings, life stories. ThoughI love water and translucent painting,I find fibers, needle felted together, add dimension and warmth. My materials-upcycled wool, alpaca, blankets, cashmere sweaters, fur hats, silk clothes-holdbackstories. Is my art commemorative? Decorative? Entertaining? Educational?I hope my end-product reveals the sensuality of the process as well as the story of the subject.

Welcome to my world, where clay and words mingle. As a lifelong Wisconsinite, the natural beauty and rich history of our state inform my work. An intuitive artist, I follow my own agenda to create hand-built ceramic sculptures, finished with a variety of lusters and glazes. Gwen Granzow

ACURIOUSCROWD

BIOGRAPHY

Gwen has spent decades refining her sense of color, texture, and composition, and has explored printmaking, collage, fused glass, textiles, metal sculpture and furniture making.

She is driven to attempt nearly anything creative, and loves to combine materials. She unites the influences from many experiments and 30 years as a graphic design professional to create unique and varied works, currently in acrylics, mixed media, and metals.

ARTISTSTATEMENT

After spendingyears lost in the world of pure abstract painting,I find myself drawn backto the humanform. This collection is all about exploring the figure in different abstract ways to kindof seeing how far I canpush it while still hinting at reality.

For ages, I've also been a collector of masks. So, I started playing aroundwith bringing those traditional vibes together with my own sense of fun. Each piece has become this little quirky thing, a curiosity of sorts.

I paint from a deep need to witness, preserve, and make visible the emotional truths of childhoodcancer my own and others - To remember kidslike Jake. I return to moments that are often fragmented, tender, and hard to hold.My paintings hold the tension between beauty and brutality, memory and forgetting, life and loss. I paint not to explain what happened, but to insist that it matters. My work asks viewers notjust to look, but to see with their hearts.

She received her BFA with Art Education Certification from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.Jodi has a Master of Arts in Visual Studies from Cardinal Stritch University. She has been teaching and makingart for the past twenty-five years. Her work primarily focuses on nature and the graphic designs of mandalas, mixing media suchas watercolor, pen, and colored pencil.

ARTISTSTATEMENT

A meditative flow, a rhythmic peace. I find these qualities in nature and as I create my mandalas. For this show, I focused on elements of the four seasons and combinedthe symbolism of nature in each season with my mandalaforms. The juxtaposition of the graphic pen work in the mandalas and the colorful iconographyin each season creates a visual ebb and flow. Can the mandalabe one with nature? Can nature creep into the line work and balance the flow?

Julie San Felipe

SELFPORTRAITSAND SELFIMAGININGS

BIOGRAPHY

Julie San Felipe is a Wisconsinartist with an Irish heritage. Using her own original style of watercolor on cut paper, her figures and calligraphydrift over and under, flirting between two and three dimensions. Paint flows through her pen using a technique she developed. As a member of several groups, San Felipe's art is currently in several galleries and museums statewide and is a two-time award winner at Watercolor Wisconsin.

ARTISTSTATEMENT

Everything an artist creates is a self-portrait. Yes. Everything.

If I paint a tree, it is how I see that tree. I choose the colors, the light, proportions, and the drama. I paint my style and ideal beauty. My environment, my life experiences, realistic or wishful, are there. I take a risk, I tell my story.

You, the viewer, own the image of me that I have revealed to you. You see me.

Karen Lindholm-Rynkiewicz CLEARMORNINGLIGHT

BIOGRAPHY

Karen’s path as an artist has been a circuitous one of experimentation with many art forms while also teaching high school. Her curiosity and desire to observe and interact with the world has led to a life of continuallearning. Painting is a way to share her curiosity about light and the symbolic meanings that objects carry. Karen earned a MA from the University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin,and a BFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

ARTISTSTATEMENT

I am interested in the transmission of light in relation to objects (opaque, transparent, reflected, refracted) which allow the mind's eye to describe space and time. Researching the interaction of light in a Still Life is a way for me to slow down and capture the moments of time, giving me the chance to lookmore closely at the world. Objects carry meaning through their use in life or as symbols. Painting is a way to open the world up and share life’s stories.

Nick Schroeder ANEXPLORATIONofJAPANESE AESTHETICS

"MA":ANINTERVALINSPACE ANDTIME

BIOGRAPHY

NickSchroeder was a graphic designer for more than 30 years. He retired in 2016 and in 2017 he began to pursue a long-standinginterest in ceramics as an art form. Since 2017 he has worked at Cream City Clay, a ceramics studio in West Allis, Wisconsin. He took a number of classes there before beginningto explore various themes and subjects in clay. Much of his work is conceptualand recently he has been producing tiles that are designed to be hung on the wall. His works are mainly abstract.

ARTISTSTATEMENT

I am a ceramic artist doinghand-built, mostly slab work. I have been exploring a concept in Japanese aesthetics: “Ma.” The term translates as “an interval in space and time.” It refers to the presence of empty spaces, abstraction, and asymmetrical balance frequently found in Japanese design. Since ceramics are an important part of Japanese culture my ceramic, wall-hung tiles are an appropriate medium for my exploration of this concept.
