Zeitler Stadium is finished, and many of us attended the Homecoming game, but the process of building the stadium was not as simple as you may think WLHS raised six million dollars for the project thanks to the support of WLHS Conference members However, the building of the stadium affected those who participate in fall sports such as football and soccer, or those who are a part of the marching band, including this reporter “I understand people’s disappointment due to not being able to participate in marching competitions, especially the seniors,” said Nathaniel Crowder (‘24), a member of the marching band.
Not being able to use the field for practice for much of the season compelled the band to alter the theme and direction for the year Despite the struggles and changes that had to be made, The Show Must Go On!
The usual marching choreography was eliminated, which allowed time to put on four unique performances instead of one this season Even though they were standing still, they learned to express enjoyment in performing for an audience that supported them. They made extensive use of the dorm lawns, so they would like to extend their gratitude to Honey Creek Hall and the residential students for graciously putting up with our practice sessions. Continued on Page 2
Marching Band was not the only fall activity that was displaced. Mr. Josh Seeger, one of our Cross Country coaches, looked forward to the field being completed in order to allow his team to have a good place to warm up for practice Prior to completion he said, “We had to use the parking lot to stretch for now ” Our athletes also believe that things are looking up with the addition of the new and improved track Nathaniel Aldinger (‘24) commented, “It’s a soft and flat track that is also very colorful It’ll be a good place to run and do dynamics.” However, cross country was not as affected as much as sports that take place on the field itself like the soccer and football teams, who faced greater challenges.
Head JV Football coach Phil Huebner recounted, “The start of the year was very difficult because we’re taking buses to fields across the city ” Sometimes, the places the teams practiced on didn’t have proper marks on the ground Despite the challenges, he believes that the sacrifices were worth it “The field used to be really muddy whenever it rained, making practice impossible on those days But that won’t happen anymore now that we have a new field ” Coach Huebner also hoped
that the new scoreboard and the lights will make the stadium more welcoming to families and visitors Finally, he expressed his excitement for the future of our athletic program “All of our teams are very excited to be a part of the continuing legacy of sports at Wisco ”
Another major problem that the sports teams have faced in the past is the difficulty of sharing one field with multiple teams Building on the Legacy aims to solve this problem by building a practice field in order to accommodate more of our sports teams. Until that was finished, JV Soccer coach Heath Butler and his team had to wait. “We haven’t been able to get on the practice field; we’ve been splitting time with the football team, and we will hopefully get more time when that field is done.”
explained Cross Country runner Annabelle Nault (‘24), “so we think that the track is worth waiting for ” Football player Luke Dettman (‘25) noted how the project had been directly helping his team “[The field’s] brand new, and we have new equipment as well, so it’s just been getting better We’re really coming together and playing more seriously Everyone thought we’d get destroyed by Whitefish Bay, but we won ” Soccer player Gabriel Tonade (‘23) also reflected on his crew’s new found motivation. “We’re doing very well so far; we have good morale, we play well as a team, and we work hard at practice. We don’t get to use the field as much anymore, but the new field seems really nice, and my favorite thing about it is the new scoreboard.”
He also anticipates having an easier time with practice when both fields finally open, allowing them to return to an equal playing field against other teams that have their own turf fields
“The new field is much easier for running and practicing techniques like passing and shooting, helping the guys get better skills ” It is easy to see the benefits that this project will bring to the school and its programs, and many athletes would agree They understand the importance of the much needed upgrades being made and are willing to set aside their convenience for the moment. “It’s frustrating not being able to go on the track, but the new material is supposed to be really good,"
Building on the Legacy has been a major blessing to our school, and we hope that its products will remain a blessing to us for many years to come Even though difficulties may have arisen with our students and teams during its construction, they were all temporary and faded away as soon as Zeitler Stadium and its facilities in their entirety become open for all to enjoy

Every year, new teachers and faculty join the ranks of WLHS, which means there are new adults to get to know and learn from Mrs Sofia Bitter is a new science teacher, teaching both Freshman and General Chemistry. On top of that, she also lives and works in the dorms as a supervisor, along with her husband Mr Jacob Bitter
Mrs. Bitter decided to come to Wisco because she enjoys working with others and helping them learn. Her interest in the dorms comes from growing up in a foreign country, St. Lucia. Though she did not go to WLHS herself, many of her husband's family, including her mother in law, Mrs Stacy Bitter, the new English teacher, attended here.
Lastly, the most pressing question on everyone’s mind, the end all question, had to be asked out of sheer curiosity and desperation: "What is your opinion on popcorn?" Luckily, Mrs. Bitter enjoys it “I like it with the different seasonings especially ”
Another new member of the WLHS roster is Mrs. Michelle Crowder. Like Mrs. Bitter, she is also a supervisor at the dorms She herself is not involved in any co curricular activities, although she knows all about them through her son, Nathaniel Crowder (WLHS '24) Mrs Crowder wanted to work in the dorms to see the students grow; “I wanted to get to know students and enjoy seeing them grow in their faith.”
Before Wisco, Mrs Crowder was a teacher at St John’s in Montello and St John’s Wauwatosa
When she was in high school, she participated in three sports, her favorite being track
And now, one final question to rule them all: What is your opinion on popcorn? Mrs Crowder’s response was, “I dislike regular popcorn, but I love caramel and cheddar popcorn from Chicago ”
We welcome both of these teachers as part of the Wisco faculty.
Dr. Kerry Kuehn is one of Wisco's new science teachers. He teaches AP Physics 1. He was raised in Columbus, OH, and attended both grade school and high school there Afterwards, he attended Cornell University and received a Bachelor's in Engineering Physics and then UCSB for a Ph D in Low temperature Fluid Physics, where he played with a very powerful but expensive fridge every day He has been teaching at WLC for the past 22 years In his spare time, he enjoys reading, hiking, biking, and stargazing.
Dr. Kuehn has enjoyed his first month of teaching at WLHS as he was used to teaching older college students, and being able to teach students that are a similar age to his children is a new experience. Despite the increased age gap, he felt little difference in the effort and attention his students paid in class.
In fact, the most significant difference between his AP students and college students is that only high schoolers ask for hall passes
When asked for a one word answer summary for Wisco, he concluded that it is a blessing As an experienced educator, he has some words of advice for those that want to pursue physics for further education He stressed the importance of planning out for the long term instead of for the moment He also advises his AP students that they should not be afraid to ask him for help.
Mr. Micah Walz is Wisco’s new Athletic director and also one of three Walz brothers who are dedicated to shaping the hearts and minds of teenagers here at Wisco When asked how he felt about being one of three, he simply replied, “It's funny walking through the halls, hearing kids say, “there's another one ”
Some fun facts about Mr Walz
His favorite color is blue, and his favorite song is In Christ Alone Also, his favorite movie is Gladiator He is also a proud Wisconsinite who supports all of the local teams. His favorite flavor of custard is vanilla with cookie dough. If he had a billion dollars, he said he would, “build a field house.”
When asked what his favorite sports were to watch and play, he declared that he enjoys both watching and playing basketball.
Before accepting the position of Athletic Director at Wisconsin Lutheran, he taught seventh grade at Garden Homes for nine years. After that, he took a call to teach at St. Jacobi for four years, where he served as the seventh grade teacher and Athletic Director. Then, over the course of five years at Star of Bethlehem, he taught eighth grade, was the athletic director, and served as principal for a year. Mr. Walz said his favorite part was working with kids.
He said that the opportunity to work with coaches and student athletes on the high school level was important to him. He wants to try and help them have the best possible experience with high school sports.
He enjoyed playing here because his coaches and his teammates created a meaningful experience. Finally, he said that he wants to give kids that same opportunity to learn as many things about
friendship through sports as he did. God has called him here for a purpose to change the lives of students, and student athletes alike, and to inspire them to grow in The Word as he has.
Ms. Rosenberg is Wisco’s newest art teacher, and she teaches Exploratory Drawing, Drawing, and AP Drawing and Design. Previously, she worked at St. Lucas, the American School of Bangkok and Kettle Moraine Middle School.
Her church, Living Word, is located in Waukesha. One of her favorite things about art is the way you can freely express yourself. There is no incorrect answer when it comes to being creative Art can be very complex yet so simple For her, art acts as a comfort zone
If she could tell her younger self something she would say, “No
matter how much you plan for your life, God will lead you on his path.” Her proudest moment was the ability to overcome certain fears and social norms. For example, when she moved to Thailand, she went all by herself; she only had God and that was enough. Her most treasured Bible verse is Psalm 23:4, which states, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me.”
Lastly, her greatest takeaway from high school is to cherish the experiences you have because they will have a lasting impact. Enjoy the time in a Christian school where Jesus is a normal conversation topic. Outside of places such as WLHS, that isn't always the case, and it can be a challenge to navigate through the real world. It might seem like it is our faith against the world, so stay close to your faith in God until you meet him in Heaven.

that the high school workload is overwhelming sometimes for freshmen.
However, everything requires a period of time for adaptation. In order to adapt to the new learning environment and get a good rest, people can try to change some habits For example, try to adjust the routine of sleeping High school students need to get at least eight hours of sleep every day Good sleep quality is also an important factor to keep healthy
Saying that freshman year is hard is like saying that 2 and 2 make 4 Of course it’s hard! You’re suddenly thrust into a new school, have to follow a new schedule, and are surrounded by swathes of new people Handling only one of those may already feel out of reach, so having to deal with all three of them at the same time (alongside other school stressors like homework and tests) seems outright impossible.
Luckily, that feeling of impossibility does eventually give way. Being a freshman stops feeling unattainable, and the sudden differences that entering high school brings start becoming normal, accepted, everyday parts of life Likewise, the surprise of the new schedule wears off, and it becomes so familiar that you could rattle off the order of your classes without hesitation
Perhaps most importantly, new people become familiar faces and you’ll find yourself with at least a few good friends who will improve your high school experience so much
that you actually look forward to coming to school These reassurances have been heard by almost all freshmen entering any high school, Wisco included. Their popularity is greatly boosted by the fact that they’re almost always applicable. What they aren’t, though, are solutions. Things being better or easier in the future does not stop things from being bad or difficult in the present.
The issues that freshmen are facing remain in the present, so the question remains: What are those issues, and how can they be solved? For example, because it’s their first year at the school, they don't know much about the school's activities Thus, if you have freshman friends, suggest to them the activity you love best!
Because freshmen are not familiar with the school’s layout and are afraid of being late for class, they don't usually use their lockers and always have a heavy backpack. On top of that is all the homework they have, which might occasionally be a burden for them. It is understandable
Additionally, psychological studies have shown that staying away from excessive phone usage can really help your sleep It's best not to play with your phone or do anything that excites your brain for half an hour before bed. Blue light from your phone can suppress melatonin production, making it difficult for you to fall asleep. The lack of sleep can lead to depression, anxiety, inattention, and illness.
Among the time freshman spend on studying everyday, large portions are spent studying for tests and quizzes
Keep in mind that while studying for tests and quizzes, one is reviewing the knowledge you already have The test and quizzes are just tools for knowing what you do not completely understand in the previous studying and the score is not all The learning process is more important than the result Also, having a good score is not the only way to succeed. Having a hobby and sticking to it, making achievements; being willing to help others,
After their successful first meet of the season, the boys’ Cross Country team was ranked 10th in the state in Division I, (the largest WIAA sports division). They raced at the Leighton Bitz Invitational and placed third out of twenty teams in both the Varsity and JV races Jacob Alejandro said this about the season and the hard work they put in over the summer: “The season is going very well After an excellent summer of consistent team running, we confidently transitioned into a focused workout routine, and we have not slowed down The first few weeks of racing have filled us with both excitement and frustration to fuel our drive for success, and we are looking ahead to some big goals for the end of the season We thank God for the opportunity to glorify him every day with our running and grow closer as teammates and Christian brothers ” Later on in their season, the boys’ Cross Country team won three consecutive meets; their home meet, which had over twenty teams competing, the Woodland Conference meet, and the South Milwaukee JV invite The boys placed second at Sectionals, resulting in them qualifying for the State meet at Wisconsin Rapids

Per usual, we still have an amazing team dynamic and friendship, and that always impacts us to run for each other. I’m thrilled to see what this year’s team can bring and how we can grow as a team and program ” After the Druckery Invitational, the girls’ Cross Country team placed second at three of their next four meets They placed second at the Angel Invitational, the Wisconsin Lutheran Invite, and the Woodland Conference Championship They ultimately ended their seasons at Sectionals
The football teams fought hard in every game. The Varsity team bounced back from several tough games, and they beat Greenfield High School When asked about their season Blake Wetzel said: “Although our record doesn’t show it, this team is very talented and we have grown closer together over the last few weeks The only thing stopping us is the simple mistakes that we make every game and we are working to fix that in order to get more wins One major game was our game against Cudahy on October 7 which was the Homecoming game It was the first home game on our brand new field so it was very exciting to play there and have a lot of guests come ”
We put our full support behind our athletic teams and pray for their continued successes and that they will perform to the glory of God alone Go Vikings!
Zachary Tipton also said: “We got off to a rough start but then started to pick things up now as it went on One notable game was against Greendale since it was a big conference game for us Also we played Shorewood/Messmer for Senior night, and the following week, we went against Cudahy at Zeitler Stadium for our Hoco game.” They had a very good streak of games, winning six in a row. Their season ended at Regionals where they fell to Grafton High School. The Varsity Reserve team won their first game against Whitefish Bay High School. After a few tough games, they beat Whitnall by 26 points. They won two of the four games in the final part of their season, having a relatively successful season. Finally, the JV2 team has also played very hard in each game and is looking forward to improving over the season and growing as a team. They improved over the season, winning four of their games after struggling for the first part of their season.
The volleyball teams thrived this season The Varsity team has won several league games including those against West Allis Central, Pius XI, and Greendale High School They also placed highly in several tournaments, one of which was in Illinois When asked about the season, Kylie Bilitz said: “Our biggest game so far was Pewaukee We went to 5 sets with them and were very close every set...but lost.” The Varsity had a lot of successes, winning their Regional and Sectional games resulting in them qualifying for State in Green Bay. They ultimately fell to Sauk Prairie High. The Junior Varsity team has also played well. They have won four of their league games and done well in numerous tournaments. They continued having a pretty successful season, only losing a few games. Finally, the JV2 volleyball team has been undefeated in League play and succeeded in all of their tournaments. The JV2 continued having a good season, only losing a few games in a few of their tournaments.
The Soccer teams have been victorious so far. The Va the season off strong with three wins After a hard fough prior, they won a league game against West Allis Centra biggest win of the season when they beat Greenfield by se asked about the season, Eli Lepke said, “We had the first the new field We have had some tough losses, but all in al great season ” The soccer team continued with their su winning several games on their path to Regionals They pla the Regionals semifinals and finals, beating Waterford and School They ultimately fell to Wauwatosa East High Sch
The Junior Varsity team has won almost every game T season by winning six games, two of which were league least two points The team had a tough game against Lutheran High School, where they tied They bounced back though, when they won against Greendale a few days later season was a little tougher for them, winning two of the nex
g p need to focus on grades, not grades themselves, but the reflection behind them
The hardest, but most important thing that allows freshmen to adapt and contribute to school is time management It is an important life skill, so trying to practice good time management can be helpful If you are worried about managing time, just relax and try your best. Anxiety can only make things worse. What I hope this research has provided, above all, is optimism. Not the unspecific optimism for an unspecified future. Rather, I hope it’s shown a more practical kind of positive outlook. You don’t need to suffer through immediate challenges while only thinking about the possibility of good things to come You can find solutions to your issues in the present You can make your life better You just need to know what to do
Stay true to your values and beliefs
Remember people's names! Take concise, clear notes Be organized and stay organized Avoiding comparing yourself to others.
Actively participate in class. Sleep early, get up early; make sure that you have enough time in the morning to get ready for the day.
wo projects that OHFHS (Our rvice) mission lage Expansion Central Africa AMM) ion is the Thai s support and erished families
along with educational services and employment all while teaching them about Jesus The money raised will specifically help to expand the village by creating a facility that could be used as a church, a school, a community center, and a training center
Along with the Thai Village Project, the Central Africa Medicine Mission will raise funds to support a 24 hour medical clinic in Zambia. The money will be used to repair their main nurse’s home and remodel the current women’s shelter. Fortunately, they have already received an amount of funds from other programs which means that they only need about $10,000 more to reach their goals. This enables WLHS to carry out a dual mission this year, providing service for two causes.
Why participate in this year long fundraiser? By participating in the various student led activities, students have a chance to supply those seeking assistance in Thailand and Zambia with proper support. Not only will they create a better environment for those who are wishing to help the misfortunate in their communities, but these projects allow room for both physical and spiritual aid. This is only possible if organizations such as WLHS are willing to contribute to these projects. So, students, don’t be hesitant in engaging in activities such as A la Carte. Though individual donations may seem too small to achieve anything, they will go much further since contributions will impact the hearts and souls of people by bringing them closer to Jesus.
Fall is here! To get in the fall spirit, Wisco students voted on their favorite fall drink 335 responses came in! In fourth place, with 8 1% of the votes, was Chai Tea This is the kind of drink that some people love, and some people have never tried. It is flavorful and a great source of antioxidants.
cider is the best fall drink!
Freshman Annalise Kuehn agrees. “Hot apple cider is the best fall drink for when it’s chilly out, especially sitting by a fire ” Apple cider is definitely a fall favorite!
Fun fact: This day actually celebrates Avogadro's number (6.02 x 10^23), which is used to measure the amount of substance in a system.
The Pilot is Wisco’s student run newspaper, updating you with all the current information regarding things such as school events, sports, and other outside areas of interest as well. In addition to its writers, Pilot has many talented artists and photographers who provide the illustrations and event photos you see in every issue.
With volumes dating as far back as the 1960s, Pilot has a vast history of student journalism and creativity. Even in the oldest issues, that same spark of creativity was clearly shown back then Some of these earlier copies included interesting topics like the 1968 election and bits of fiction, all put together by the students at that time
If you want to be part of this history in the making, contact pilot@wlhs org
The next drink, in third place with 18.5% of the votes, was a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Pumpkin spice gets people in the mood to carve pumpkins and cozy up in your warm house.
Apple cider, a fall classic, took second place with 27 2% of the votes That’s 87 people who think apple
Now, the clear first place winner, with 39 7% of the votes was hot chocolate! For chocolate lovers, hot chocolate might be an obvious choice
Freshman Samantha Lee said, “It’s kind of chilly in the fall and it’s nice to drink something hot ” Little sounds better on a chilly day than a nice warm cup of hot chocolate Thanks to everyone who participated in the poll!

The much awaited sequel to Black Panther was released on November 11 Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever follows the events of Avengers: Endgame and the aftermath of King T’Challa’s death The trailer depicts a generous amount of action as well as emotion that will be seen in this next film. It also provides another look at the majestic world of Wakanda with its highly advanced technology and architecture.
We will also get to see plenty of beloved characters from the first film, like T’Challa’s sister, Shuri, Nakia, M’Baku, and Queen Ramonda as they must continue on after their king’s passing Of course, this film probably wouldn’t have been in the works had it not been for Chadwick Boseman’s excellent portrayal of T’Challa in the first Black Panther Out of respect for Chadwick Boseman, T'Challa was not recast in Wakanda Forever It is interesting how Marvel was able to continue with a new vision for this particular series More fascinating characters will be introduced, like Riri Williams, a brilliant inventor, and the villainous Namor, who rules an ancient civilization of underwater dwelling people.
Runtime: 2 hours and 41 minutes. Rating: PG 13
Budget: $250 Million
Main Cast: Letitia Wright, Angela Basset, Dominique Thorne, Tenoch Huerta, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, and Martin Freeman Rotten Tomatoes: 84% (Critic Score) Phase: This is the final installment of the MCU's (Marvel Cinematic Universe) Phase 4
Everyone knows that school dances are something to look forward to; there’s music to dance to and fun to have with friends Whether by a giant sign, a little text, or a dance, one of the most exciting parts is getting asked to Homecoming Pilot took a poll and asked the Wisco students a very interesting question: “If you were to be asked to a dance, how would you want to be asked?”
According to this pie chart, about 48% of the students who responded would rather be asked by poster or art About 20% would rather be asked verbally, and about 13% would rather be asked in a customized and unique way; these were the top three choices. No one can really go wrong with a poster or a work of art. Most of the time, a simple poster with big animated words would melt anybody’s heart. Posters are simple and are easy to customize. Posters can be made to represent something cheesy or something really clever
In addition, they can be presented in private or in a small group It proves to be very convenient; just ask the 48% of people who chose that option
Some might say the best moments in life are the quiet, simple ones, which are those five second moments that stick out in one’s mind throughout their life. The 20% of people who chose the option of “verbally” and the 3.9% who chose “note” most likely support that statement.
The most creative option is probably “other.” Many students have a dream or a wish of someone saying or doing something in a specific way in order to ask them to dances The statistics say only 13% chose that option, but realistically everyone could have chosen it Customizing something to one’s benefit can serve as a great surprise Even though not every person will be asked exactly how they would want to be asked, it is still fun to think about
Thank you to the 183 students who participated in this poll!
Have you ever launched a rocket ship from Wisco’s football field? Seems pretty fun right? Well, Mrs Stacy Bitter’s daughter, who is an alumnus, did in fact launch a "rocket ship" off Wisco’s football field. Sarah Bitter, the alum, graduated in 2021. You may even remember her and this particular rocket ship project. When she described this activity, she used two key words: fun and enjoyable. Many projects might not seem fun and enjoyable, but rather described as hard and challenging Many times, projects require weeks of research and hours of work for it to be turned into your teacher for an average grade But as you can see, not all projects end like this
Have you ever dreamt of being an astronaut or a doctor? Or maybe you dreamed of being a basketball or football star You may not see it, but some of these dreadful projects that you complain and worry about are bound to contribute to your future career If you do a project on how wind and air pressure work, maybe you’ll have more understanding on how a basketball gets into a hoop. If you do a project on the five nutrients, you may find out that being a doctor is an interest of yours. This should provide the basic understanding that projects can be fun and beneficial. You don’t see it now, but if you put in the work and try your best, you might end up launching a rocket ship off the football field Then you wouldn’t describe it as hard or challenging, but fun and enjoyable You might even want to do it again Ask your teacher if they plan on assigning a project like this one Be optimistic; it might be something to look forward to
