A MESSAGE FROM WINTHROP UNIVERSITY

ATHLETICS DIRECTOR CHUCK REY

EAGLE NATION is BACK! This past year was the return of the Eagles…the return of YOU! We achieved attendance not seen in over a decade. Baseball had our first sellout crowd before the day of the game (there were scalpers outside the Ballpark)! Over 500 in attendance at softball and soccer games! Volleyball had the highest season ticket sales ever, and the Coliseum was rocking again at basketball games!

On behalf of our student-athletes, coaches and staff, thank you, thank you, thank you for your continued support of Winthrop Athletics and the Eagle Club Each year, the Eagle Club provides financial resources, primarily scholarship dollars, to support our incredible student-athletes, who continue to represent Winthrop in the classroom, in competition and in the community. There is not a better gift than that of an education.

It was great to be a part of Coach Kevin Pendley’s historic season with the men’s golf team’s first Big South Conference Championship! Men’s and Women’s Track and Field also had individual Big South Conference Champions along with seven school records broken. Our men’s 4x400 come-from-behind Big South Conference Championship sprint was incredible. Volleyball made the post-season for the first time since 2019 and softball was back in the Big South Conference Championship tournament.

It was a fun year, yet still much work to be done As we look ahead to the future, it is your continued support that will carry our teams to greater success. We are making positive strides to uplift our programs.

President Serna signed a five-year contract extension and it is this stability and consistency in leadership from the top all the way through our amazing Athletics staff that reignites Winthrop Athletics. A heartfelt appreciation to our long-time supporters, and it is exciting to have so many new Eagle Club members! We encourage your continued support of the Eagle Club and/or your program(s) of choice and set up a recurring gift to help us plan even better for the future! We have included a recurring gift option on the enrollment form at the back of this guide. Thank you again for your continued support and helping us make a difference in the lives of our student-athletes and the community.

WHO WE SERVE

SAM BELL

MEN’S SOCCER EUGENE, OR

“Winthrop has equipped me with the tools to thrive beyond my college years. The support I received throughout my time here has helped me grow into a confident young adult ready for the real world. While initially drawn to Winthrop for the chance to play collegiate soccer, I grew to love the school itself. The design department, in particular, has been incredibly supportive, offering not just education but also resources to propel me towards success in the professional arena post-graduation.”

KADEDRA TEMPLE

SOFTBALL HANOVER, VA

“Winthrop feels like home. I love the location near Charlotte! People are inviting in the area and that makes this university everything I dreamed about attending.”

OLIVIA KEMP

CROSS COUNTRY

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL

“My coaches made me feel at home. It’s like a family here. On my visit, even the team was tight knit. Everyone knows everyone, and the school’s size makes Winthrop a really strong draw.”

IAN GRESHAM

TRACK & FIELD BRISTOW, VA

“The support system here is incredibly strong. Our coaching staff in particular does a nice job of spending one-on-one time with us. There is a lot of personalization in our academic experiences too with our student to professor ratio being

very comparable. Rock Hill reminds a lot of people here of home and that makes this place special.”

EMMA ANN LAY

VOLLEYBALL

TABOR CITY, NC

“Aside from my recruitment as a student-athlete, the sense of community here is amazing. Rock Hill is a suburb of Charlotte so you have the city vibe while keeping that sense of belonging. The metropolitan city

aspect is a game changer for job opportunities too. There is strength in the ability to network around Winthrop allowing us to take a sneak peek into our potential future beyond athletics.”

TAYLOR HUBBARD

MEN’S GOLF AYLETT, VA

“We can win championships here. We take time to build our program and being part of this championship tradition is special. Being the first team to win a championship in Winthrop Men’s

Golf history is incredible when you consider the great golfers who have graduated here.”
