From Erin Freeman, Artistic Director If you’re new to the Wintergreen Music Festival, welcome! You’ll find much to delight your senses. Take a look at our various series, our special offerings, and our opportunities for musical enrichment. Or, pick a weekend experience that suits your schedule and musical tastes. With more than 150 events, we have something for everyone! This year has been an exciting one for Wintergreen Music. We have a new look and a new name; we have developed a strategic plan to carry our work into the future; and we have seen a record number of applications to our Academy, so much so that we had to create an additional program to meet demand. We have also revamped our Festival schedule slightly, making Wednesdays about exploration and discovery (Fresh Perspectives), turning Fridays into our wild card night of pops programming (Fiery Fridays), and converting Coffee & Kids into Social Sundays – family-friendly concerts at the Dunlop Pavilion and Valley partners, combining great food with great performances. And, we’re updating our Music in Unusual Places to a community-based program, teaching our students the power of performance (Community Connections).
With all of this change, however, at our core we are the same. We inspire, educate, and welcome audiences, students, and professional musicians alike through the power of music. We feature our flagship MountainTop Masterworks series, bringing the brilliance of a live orchestra to the majesty of the mountains. We present Mix, Mingle & Music events, short but content-rich concerts with a preceding cocktail (half) hour. Our Morning Seminars and Music 101 series give patrons and students opportunities to discover new musical pathways. And, of course, our Cooking Classes are back with four fabulous chefs, all hand-selected by Wintergreen favorite, Tucker Yoder. To celebrate all of these exciting changes, this summer we’re exploring the idea of transformation. From the evolution of the music of Beethoven to the musical interpretation of art, poetry, and theater; from the voice of a bird to the voice of a wolf; from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde – if it has transformed, it is part of the Wintergreen Music Festival! And with artists such as Orion Weiss, Joseph Conyers, and John Morris Russell, you, our audience, will be transformed, too!
