More About Sport Sport Teams We’re extremely proud of our competitive sports offer. Our staff include fully qualified coaches across a range of sports who want to give you the best possible sporting experience. We aim to develop your skills both on the pitch/court tactically and off it as a whole person. We pride ourselves on how we encourage you to play the game with the right attitude and in the correct spirit of the game. Over the last few years we have had numerous sports teams represent the college successfully at regional level which has led to them qualifying for the AoC National Championships. At the last championships, we had 30 students from 7 different sports qualify for the event: the highest representing college in the North West for that year.

Team Trials Selection for our representative teams is determined by sports team training sessions which take place each week. You are encouraged to keep coming to training even if you are not selected for the match day squads as we want every student to have the opportunity to participate in sport.

Recent Sporting Success 2019/2020 Our results in the leagues are based on our standing when the season was terminated due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

Men’s Football (first team) First in the North West Colleges League (unbeaten all season, winning all 11 games played and scoring over 100 goals in the process) Semi-finalists in the AoC National Cup (semi final wasn’t played due to COVID-19) Semi-finalists in the AoC Regional 7-a-side tournament Quarter Finalists in the County Cup (quarter final wasn’t played due to COVID-19).

You may participate in more than one sport if the sport training schedule allows. However, if selected for more than one team, you will have to decide which you wish to represent, as fixtures typically take place at the same time (Wednesday afternoon).

Selection Criteria

Netball (first team)

The selection criteria for our more popular sports teams is very high, with the majority of our team members playing at club and possibly county levels. If in a ‘ranked’ sport, the team coach may well include this as part of the selection process. However, our ‘quieter’ teams are keen to introduce more players to their sport regardless of playing experience or ability. We have a lot of students who want to try out new sports and this is something we encourage greatly. If you have any queries, please email the Sports Enrichment Officer, Ben Rutherford.
