WASTE TREATMENT AND RCRA LANDFILL SERVICES

Compliant solutions for hazardous and nonhazardous waste

VEOLIA NORTH AMERICA’S LANDFILL AND WASTE TREATMENT CAPABILITIES

Many types of waste require treatment prior to disposal in landfills in order to meet the Landfill Disposal Restrictions, part of the Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA). Veolia manages a wide variety of waste by treating the hazardous waste before it is disposed of in a Subtitle C hazardous landfill.

WASTE TREATMENT

Treatment involves chemical reactions to reduce leachability and “stabilize” the waste. This process includes immobilizing hazardous material, reducing its solubility, or breaking chemical bonds via oxidation or reduction processes, making it less toxic and ready for landfill disposal.

Our hazardous waste stabilization services include:

• D002 neutralization and non-hazardous waste solidification

• Stabilization of D-coded metal-bearing waste types, typically D004 to D011

• Stabilization of other coded hazardous waste, including listed waste and characteristic waste

• Micro- and macro-encapsulation treatment of hazardous waste debris

• Waste profiling, laboratory analysis, and unique treatment methodologies

• Testing stabilized residuals to ensure proper treatment and that all landfill restrictions are met for final disposal

• Chemical oxidation

• Oxidizer deactivation

SUBTITLE C LANDFILL

Veolia’s Subtitle C landfill employs state-of-theart constructions to isolate contaminants from the environment. They consist of two ultra thick synthetic HDPE liners embedded between dense clay liners. A leachate system is installed to collect any liquid that may form when rainfall contacts the waste. All leachate is managed at the on-site incinerator.

Veolia treats and landfills contaminated soils, sludges, and other liquid and solid RCRA classified hazardous waste from generators around the country.
