Time to rebound & maintain momentum
Winona State fell to UMD 29-23 last week, but won the second half, scoring 20 points to close the margin to within a touchdown late in the game. Winona State rallied behind Owen Burke and his arm, as the passing game was the path to success on the day. Burke was 19-of-31 for 239 yards and one TD to spark the comeback. Looking to get the running game back on track
Weeks one and two saw the Warriors run over, run through and run by opposing defenses in the two WSU wins. Against UMD, the run game was held to net zero yards, but Winona State expects to see a return to form at UMary. Javian Roebuck has 213 yards on 36 carries to lead WSU so far. Tom Sawyer Spotlight
Now at 192-86, Tom Sawyer is 2nd nationally in total wins among active NCAA Division II coaches. Only West Chester's Bill Zwaan (200) currently has more victories. 2021 NSIC STANDINGS SOUTHERN DIVISION DIVISION

WINONA STATE FOOTBALL NSIC Notables
At 2-1, Winona State is one of six NSIC teams heading into Saturday with the chance to jump out to a 3-1 mark one-third through the season...or fall to .500. The fourth game of the slate is key for those teams looking for post-season possibilities. Attempting improvement
Winona State had the least amount of rushing attempts in the NSIC after week three (85), but Warrior running backs have made the most of their touches. WSU is sixth in the league in terms of average yards per carry at 4.3. Top third for TDs, top half for yards per game
Winona State has 12 touchdowns on the year, good for seventh in the league so far. The team is seventh in yards per game at 122.7 If you should be one thing, be efficient
Winona State has run the least amount of offensive plays in the NSIC to date (174), yet the Warriors have racked up 1,132 yards overall this year. Burke is the boss
Owen Burke is 6th in the NSIC in total passing yards (760) and has only one interception so far this season. His 70-yard strike to Sawyer Maly against Minnesota-Moorhead in week two is tied for longest passing touchdown so far. Top 20 hands
In terms of total receiving yards, Winona State has three receivers in the NSIC top25 after three weeks of play; Ethan Wittenburg, 14th with 189, Jake Balliu is 19th with 165 and Sawyer Maly is 22nd with 150 yards. Standing PAT perfections
Placekicker Jacob Scott has been perfect in NSIC play in PAT’s (11-for-11) and is fifth in points scored by a kicker (23).

WINONA STATE FOOTBALL Return to sender
As a kick returner, Jake Balliu is 4th in the NSIC in punt return yards (32) and 4th in kick return yards (164). To date, there has yet to be a kickoff returned for a touchdown in NSIC play this year. Balliu best best to change that stat
To date, there has yet to be a kickoff or punt returned for a touchdown in NSIC play in 2021. Warrior fans would not be surprised to see Jake Balliu change that stat this week. The Clay wall
Warrior linebacker Clay Schueffner is tied for 2nd in the NSIC in total tackles (26). He is also one of six defenders around the league with one or more sacks.
Lap around the NSIC
Winona State is one of three teams that are 4-of-5 on field goal attempts this year, tied for second-best.
Lap around the NSIC, No. 2
Winona State's 47 points against Concordia St. Paul in week one is the fifth-most scored in a game so far. Sioux Falls scored 50 on CSP in week three for the top mark.
Still on top
WSU's 509 yards in week one against Concordia-St. Paul still leads the NSIC in terms of single-game total offensive output.
A successful run
Winona State's 272 yards on the ground against the Golden Bears in the opener was the third most by a team on the ground in one game. The four rushing TD's is tied for second. Winona State Football - Visit www.WINONASTATEWARRIORS.COM for more information

WINONA STATE FOOTBALL You are all done here
WSU has held their opponents on fourth down the majority of the time; in three games so far, opponents are just 3-for-11 on fourth down conversion attempts. Coming back at you
Winona State's kick return corps of Darryl Williams and Jake Balliu have been a big part of three of the top 15 kick return performances this year. WSU owns the 6th, 7th-best and 13th-best kick return games in the NSIC top 15. Keeping a handle on it
Neither Winona State, nor their opponents, have fumbled the ball away much this season. Only Minnesota State Moorhead can claim a fumble recovery over the Warriors on 9/11/2021. Keep the flag in the pocket
Winona State has only been involved in one game this year that reached double digits in penalty calls; MSU-Moorhead and WSU combined for 11 flags in week two.
Balliu right by you
Jake Balliu is leading Winona State in catches with 11 and is second in total receiving yards at 165. He is one of five Warrior receivers with a TD catch so far this year. Handle with care
Ethan Wittenburg has 189 receiving yards to lead the Warriors, while Sawyer Maly leads the team in avg. yards per catch at 30.0 this season.
