WINONA STATE FOOTBALL NSIC Notables
At 2-0, Winona State is one of just four unbeaten teams in the NSIC football ranks, joined by Augustana, Bemidji State & Minnesota Duluth. UMD is ranked #13 in the latest AFCA poll. Four score and a bunch of yards
Javian Roebuck leads the NSIC in rushing touchdowns (4), is 3rd in rushing yards (189) and is 4th in average yards per game (94.5). League leader
Roebuck has also rumbled to a league-leading 24 points after two weeks of play. His 64 yard run against CSP is the longest run so far in NSIC play. Fit to be Ty-ed
Running back Ty Gavin is 10th in the NSIC in rushing avg. yards per game (56.0)
Burke is the boss
Owen Burke is 5th in the NSIC in total passing yards (521) and currently tied with two other QB’s for the longest passing TD, with a 70-yard strike to Sawyer Maly against Minnesota-Moorhead in week two. Looking for a three-peat
In terms of total receiving yards, Winona State has three receivers in the top-25; Jake Balliu (133), Ethan Wittenburg (100) and Sawyer Maly (99) are all off to strong starts in 2021.
Standing PAT perfections
Placekicker Jacob Scott leads the NSIC in PAT’s (9-for-9) and is second in points scored by a kicker (18). At 3-of-4 on the season so far, Scott is tied for 2nd in made field goals. Winona State Football - Visit www.WINONASTATEWARRIORS.COM for more information

WINONA STATE FOOTBALL Return to sender
As a kick returner, Jake Balliu is 4th in the NSIC in punt return yards (28) and 8th in kick return yards (84). Molded Clay
Linebacker Clay Schueffner is 3rd in the league in total tackles (19) and tied for second in TFL yards (14).
Ball carrier, meet Mitch
Warrior linebacker Mitch Snitker is 6th in the NSIC in solo tackles (11). Lap around the NSIC
Conceding just 9.5 points per contest, Winona State leads the Conference in average points against, and is the only NSIC team averaging under double-digits. Lap around the NSIC, No. 2
Winona State is one of just two NSIC teams to notch a safety so far this year; the Warrior’s two-point tackle in the endzone sparked the WSU rally in game one against Concordia St. Paul.
There's more where that came from
The Warriors 47 points against CSP is the second-highest single game point total so far this season.
It's gooooooood....
In scoring nine points via the kicking game in both week one and week two, Winona State has had 6th best point production by kicking specialists in the first two weeks of the season.

WINONA STATE FOOTBALL Leading the league in legwork
WSU’s 509 total offensive yards vs. CSP is the fifth-best output so far in a NSIC contest, while the six TD’s on the day are the second most. In terms of rushing yards, Winona State’s 272 yards on the ground is best in the Conference to date this season. Not his first rodeo
Javian Roebuck’s 138 rushing yards against CSP marked the third time he has surpassed 120 yards in a game as a Warrior, having had 142 vs. Sioux Falls (2017) and 173, also against Concordia St. Paul (2017). The long and short of it
Sawyer Maly’s 70-yard reception against Minnesota State Moorhead was seven yards short of making the Warrior top-20 in terms of a longest TD catch. The current #20 hails from 1958, when Bob Welch connected with Wayne Asing vs. UWStout in a 78 yard score. The longest ever came in the Tom Sawyer era; Adam Lilla from Bruce Carpenter, 93 yards, in a 2001 game vs. South Dakota. Share the wealth
Owen Burke completed passes to nine different receivers against CSP, and connected no more than twice with any one target. Jake Balliu, Ethan Wittenberg, Dakota Matthees, Darryl Williams and J. Michael Young all had two grabs in the game. He Balliu right by the tacklers
Current kick returner Jake Balliu is found in the top-10 in career punt return yardage (1,205 and counting), season punt return yards 192 in 2019, and career punt returns, 71 so far. He is No. 1 punts returned in a season, with 34 in 2017.
Goose eggs not welcome here
In 267 games since 1996, Winona State has been shutout only twice; a 17-0 loss to Augustana in 2010, and a 42-0 setback at North Dakota in 2006.
