BURGUNDY OFFERING

THE VINTAGES 2019 A standout vintage for both red and white Burgundy where warm and dry growing conditions produced wines with a rare combination of ripeness, concentration, and balancing acidity. High skin to juice ratios, high ripeness levels, coupled with higher than average tartaric acid gave outstanding quality to all regions. Best of all, while low yields will limit availability on top crus, some of the best values may be in the regional and village-level appellations. With the long-aging potential of the premier and grand crus, 2019 is a vintage for investment.

2018 2018 is known for its heat, early harvest, and large volumes of concentrated wines that offer immediate drinking pleasure. Both red and white Burgundy shows ripe and juicy qualities with plenty of fruit intensity and fleshy midpalates. What’s surprising is that most of the wines are unexpectedly crisp for such a warm vintage, perhaps the result of early picking for many growers. While the warm vintage was to the benefit of regional and village-level appellations, top producers still managed to capture their individual vineyards’ essence and identity with exacting precision.

2017 Generous volumes of very good quality in both colors provided some relief to growers following the challenges of 2016. A relatively early harvest resulted in lighter, fresher, fruitier red wines with approachable tannins and acidity. White Burgundy was especially successful in most regions. While Chablis suffered from frost in 2017, the resulting wines, like those of the Côte d’Or, are of excellent quality, with concentrated flavors and higher-than-usual acidities.
