Family and friends are invited to the 14th annual Windward Ho‘olaule‘a on Saturday, October 4, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. under giant banyan trees on the Windward Community College campus in Kāne‘ohe. Windward Ho‘olaule‘a is one of the largest annual events on the Windward side of O‘ahu drawing up to 15,000 people islandwide. “Through education and celebration of Hawaiian music, hula, cultural demonstrations and activities, we honor the rich tradition of Hawaiian culture on the Windward side,” said WCC Chancellor Doug Dykstra. Windward Ho‘olaule‘a is coordinated by the Kaneohe Business Group and Windward Community College. Flagship sponsors are Hawaiian Electric, Hawai‘i Tourism Authority and Ameron Hawaii. Proceeds will fund scholarships for WCC students. Last year, 22 deserving Windward Community College students—many who are Native Hawaiian— were awarded $22,000 in scholarships. “It’s a great day for the whole family.
