While this hill neighborhood is quite steep– seven of the twenty steepest streets in Seattle are located in Queen Anne, along with 120 pedestrian staircases—it’s not the highest point in the city. However, the steep incline of the area is something to keep in mind when considering Queen Anne real estate.

Queen Anne Avenue North connects Lower Queen Anne to Upper Queen Anne. Upper Queen Anne’s main commercial district features several note-worthy Seattle restaurants. Locals often refer to Queen Anne Avenue North as the Counterbalance, because of the counterweights built under the street for moving street cars up the steep incline in the neighborhood’s earlier years.

The “Crown of Queen Anne,” a 3.7 mile loop includes circling Queen Anne hill, includes portions of 5th, 7th, 8th and 10th Avenues West; Bigelow Avenue North; West Blaine, McGraw, Wheeler, Fulton and Raye Streets; Smith, McGraw, and Wheeler Streets; and West McGraw and McGraw Places.

The views from Queen Anne Boulevard are unparalleled and the loop retains the historic, park like setting both locals and visitors adore. Because the homes and shops residing in Upper Queen Anne also reflect the area’s historic charm and offer sweeping views, they mesh together really well with Queen Anne Boulevard. The whole vibe created contributes to Queen Anne’s “best neighborhood” status.

The Magnolia neighborhood feels like a secluded island. Three bridges provide access to Magnolia, just west of Queen Anne, north of Downtown, and south the Ballard Locks. The lack of major city thoroughfares through the neighborhood helps Magnolia retain in friendly quaint, atmosphere.

Being situated near the water means that there is abundant natural beauty in this area. Magnolia homes are famous for their often incredible views.

The largest park in the city can be found in Magnolia—the 534-acre Discovery Park. Situated on the Magnolia Bluff overlooking Puget Sound, Discovery Park offers spectacular views of both the Cascade and the Olympic Mountain ranges. Here, you can wander the almost 12 miles of walking trails through waterfront hills, and rugged beaches with breathtaking views.

A landmark of this neighborhood is the Palisades restaurant. The Sunday brunch here is the most popular Magnolia restaurant in the area.

QUEEN ANNE activities

Kerry Park on the south slope of Queen Anne is most known for steep steps, Kerry monument, and breathtaking views. Tourists, local creatives and daters alike find comfort in this public space. The view encompasses downtown Seattle, Elliot Bay, West Seattle, Bainbridge Island and beautiful Mount Rainier.

David Rodgers Park is a wooded play park on the north slope of Queen Anne. The park includes outdoor tennis courts and backboard, paths, children’s play area and a track with a central play field in the middle.

In the heart of Queen Anne, is East Queen Anne Playground. This neighborhood park offers a playground with slides, swings for all ages, a wading pool and climbing fun! There is also a half basketball court and soccer and baseball/softball fields.

The nearby West Queen Anne Playfield also has many amenities, including an indoor pool, community center, a play area, as well as soccer, baseball and softball fields!

QUEEN ANNE & MAGNOLIA map & location Queen Anne is comprised of four sub-neighborhoods—North Queen Anne, East Queen Anne, West Queen Anne and Lower Queen Anne. It is bordered by Belltown to the south, Lake Union to the east, the Fremont Cut to the north and Magnolia neighborhood to the west.

Three bridges provide access to Magnolia, just west of Queen Anne, and across the Interbay train tracks and commercial district.

Seattle’s rapid growth is fostering walkability within the city. Many neighborhoods have their own minidowntown regions only a few short blocks from home.

The King County Metro, Sound Transit busses, and Sound Transit’s light rail system run through the center, as well as neighborhood-specific systems, such as the South Lake Union rail, the famous monorail connecting downtown and Seattle center, water taxi services, and an integrated ferry system.

Interstate-5 runs North-South through Seattle, while Interstate-90 and State Route 520 intersect in Central District and Eastlake neighborhoods, respectfully.
