Making It: in communities and schools
Winchester Art Club Annual Exhibition This annual exhibition offers the chance for local artists, both amateur and professional, to exhibit a range of work from paintings to sculpture, drawings to prints. Each Saturday afternoon during the exhibition there will
be short demonstrations by exhibiting artists. Free admission.
An intriguing exhibition of work by makers, schools and community groups, including Deryn Relph, knit designer and Sarah Macrae, designer-jeweller together with work made by pupils during workshops led by Tim Johnson, basket maker and Julian Belmonte, ceramicist. Free admission.

In the year of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, this small display features objects, souvenirs and photographs showing how the people of Winchester commemorated the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897.

A selection of stoneware vessels of all shapes and sizes from the Winchester Museums collections many of which prominently display the names of local traders and their products.

Medieval Archer To mark Heritage Open Weekend the Westgate will be visited by a medieval archer. Come along and find out about military life in the Middle Ages. Free admission.
Stuarts at the Westgate Re-enactors bring Stuart history alive. What was it like to live in England during the time of King Charles I, Oliver Cromwell and the English Civil War? Bring a camera. Free family event.

King Alfred’s Day Winchester Museums staff are going out-and-about with activities, Anglo-Saxon costume, and object handling, to join the community in Hyde in commemorating the life of King Alfred.

Halloween Horrors Spotter Quiz The creepy Westgate will be decorated for Halloween and will be staying open late on Halloween evening. Can you spot all of the scary bats hidden around the Westgate chamber?
Spooky Halloween make-and-take Pop in to the Westgate and make a scary hanging bat to take away on Halloween evening… if you dare! Free event.

Books by Artists
This popular annual exhibition showcases paintings from Winchester Museums’ topographical collection and gives the public an opportunity to see items that are not normally on display.
A display of Artists’ Books from the Winchester School of Art Collection which includes work by former students selected and acquired at final year degree shows since the 1980s. The books cover a wide variety of topics including textiles, photography, holidays and journeys brought to life using a range of colours, textures and materials.

Studying the Romans at school? Come along and meet a Roman soldier and Roman lady from Legio Secunda Augusta. Replica objects to handle.
A Change of Heart Local artist Andrew Carnie returns to City Space with his fascinating and intriguing video and projection based artwork this time inspired by cutting edge medical research into the working of the heart.
