Celebrating the Past & Embracing the Future
The Winchendon School 2022-23 Opportunities for Support

Lloyd Harvey Hatch, Sr. founded the school with the belief that “we celebrate each student’s unique strengths and offer a custom education with a scholastic program fitted to the needs and aim of each student so they could be the major participants in their life-long educational paths.” This philosophy has been carried forward by each Head of School and continues to set us apart from other traditional school models today.
Over our history, our students have enjoyed better outcomes and grown more due to our steadfast commitment to personalization and providing a more immersive learning experience. We continue to grow and strengthen our programming to give each student a transformative experience.
This is an exciting time as we embark on securing our next big leap in education. The time is now for our loyal community to consider a gift, large or small, to have a positive impact on the future of The Winchendon School.

At Winchendon, we never settle for the status quo in teaching strategies. We are embracing a vision to elevate our curriculum with a powerful new element to prepare our students for a future-ready world.
We know how our students learn best and embrace a wide variety of learning styles, intelligences, and cognitive profiles.
Research tells us that we learn more when we do it - not just when we watch, hear about, or read it.
Creative solutions require interdisciplinary thinking, and we organize learning to reflect that for our students. There is intentional coordination, so that students are applying communications, scientific, and problem solving skills together.
We appreciate that our world is richer when we embrace a wide variety of learning styles, intelligences, cognitive profiles, cultures, and personal identities - and that many of the people who have had the greatest impact on our society didn’t thrive in traditional classrooms.
We know that our students' learning will be more meaningful to them if their learning is important to them. The most important lessons are those that impact our students and in turn have an impact on others.
Your financial support will help strengthen our academic offerings, provide professional development for our faculty, and support the Hatch Center, ColLABS, and the overall educational experience for our students.
We expect our students to enhance their high school education by participating in a variety of activities and clubs. We encourage students to try new things, like performing in a drama production, participating in Student Council, or joining the debate team, robotics or yearbook staff. We take this a step further by asking students to think about leadership opportunities that not only help them, but also give back to serve others for the greater good.
Community-based learning has been a prominent opportunity for students to serve in organizations that make the world a better place. Students have volunteered with organizations to find cures for cancer, support animal advocacy, help veterans, address disparities in food access, and many other worthy causes.
Your financial support will create broader experiences and opportunities for students to not only have fun, but also to become thought leaders, risk takers, and role models.
Last spring, the Board authorized upgrading two of our principal athletic fields to artificial turf. This includes completely redoing the baseball diamond to incorporate both baseball and softball diamonds. In addition, the Boomhower ‘71 field will be resurfaced to create a fully NCAA-compliant synthetic field for boys and girls soccer and lacrosse. The total cost is expected to be in the $3-3.5 million range.
The Board’s commitment to move forward with the project sends a strong message that our students are our number one priority! Their willingness to make this construction project happen in time for the upcoming 2022-23 season is an inspiration since we’re still in the process of raising the necessary funds. We need your support to raise $1.5 million by next summer!

I had a great year at Winchendon because of the excellent teachers and coaches. I might not have gotten into Hamilton and certainly would not have had the success I've had without Winchendon. However, I did think about attending a different school because it had better baseball facilities. While I'm glad that I didn't make the wrong choice, I know there are other great prospective students who choose schools other than Winch for that reason. I still remember the long drives to other schools and baseball fields because our fields were covered in snow and mud. We had so much fun at Winchendon, however, turf fields would have made the experience so much better. ”
