… to our Autumn Winter 2016 brochure. The Season ahead is packed full of exciting concerts, one-off artistic collaborations and special projects, featuring a star-studded line up of international artists, leading UK bands and wonderful music.

The programme includes debuts

by Classic BRIT award-winner Alison Balsom and American pianist Jeremy Denk, as well as performances by two exceptional young ensembles, The Busch Trio and Van Kuijk Quartet.

Tasmin Little opens the classical season accompanied by pianist Martin Roscoe, and we welcome members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra for an exciting family show for little ones.

Other Season highlights include folk singer Nancy Kerr, the exhilarating French-Canadian group De Temps Antan, and Portuguese Fado singer Dona Rosa.

The jazz programme is as rich as ever with Clare Martin and Ray Gelato, Jean Toussant’s Art Blakey tribute, and an exotic blend of musical soundscapes with Swedish vocalist Emilia Mårtensson and Brazilian percussionist Adriano Adewale. Dennis Rollins concludes his tenure as Jazz Artist in Residence with a special trombone workshop in October, accompanied by leading young classical trombonist Peter Moore.

Figaro, the renowned Barber of Seville, uses every trick he can muster to outwit Dr Bartolo and ensure his master wins his chosen bride. He meets his match in the would-be-bride Rosina who has schemes of her own.

DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG (AS LIVE) Wagner’s life-enhancing celebration of wisdom, art and song Hans Sachs is the most celebrated of the Master Singers, a group of poets and musicians who devise a song competition with a complex series of rules.

Their world is turned upside down by free-thinking Walther who enters their singing competition to win his beloved Eva. But can this inspired rule-breaker win the hand of the woman he loves?

Every year we invite a young artist to take part in a number of performance and creative learning projects as part of a year-long Residency. This year we are delighted to be working with tenor Peter Kirk, who since growing up in Wiltshire has performed with the English National Opera, London Philharmonic Orchestra and The Royal Opera. You may already know Peter from his memorable performances at the Centre over the past few years, and he also ran as part of the WMC team at the 2016 Vitality Bath Half Marathon. Peter is very keen to share his love of lieder and will turn his considerable technique and musical charisma to helping local young musicians and school children to understand more about this repertoire.

Wiltshire Music Centre’s Young Curators Programme is a monthly meet-up for young people aged 15 – 19 who are interested in running their own gigs. From concert management and sound engineering through to marketing and artist liaison, our Young Curators gain a wealth of experience in what it takes to programme and run events at a professional concert venue.

Recent activity includes working with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and BBC Introducing in the West to deliver workshops and a concert broadcast live on radio.

British chamber group the Berkeley Ensemble are joined by internationally acclaimed pianist Tom Poster for a concert presenting two masterworks from revolutionary Vienna. Written just twenty years apart, Schubert’s Trout Quintet and Beethoven’s Septet are united by their pioneering instrumental groupings, and evoke a golden age of chamber music-making. Knussen’s reimagining of Purcell recalls a more distant world in its dreamlike rendering of the elder composer’s most celebrated work for viols.

Both are free-spirited, poetic and deeply Romantic in their own, distinct ways. Carer’s Ticket: one complimentary carer’s ticket is available to those registered disabled and requiring assistance to attend.

Bring Your Kid For A Quid (Kid-AQuid): offered on specified concerts to broaden your childrens’ musical experiences.

Up to two Under-18s pay just £1 each when their tickets are bought with one full-price ticket to the same concert.

Under-18s: are eligible for half price tickets on specified concerts.

Free Under-25s Tickets: we are delighted to offer free tickets to Under-25 year olds (inclusive) on selected classical concerts, thanks to our collaboration with the acclaimed CAVATINA Chamber Music Trust (cavatina.net). Please quote CAVATINA when booking a ticket (01225 860 100).

Family Tickets: Families of the West of England Youth Orchestra and Wiltshire Youth Jazz Orchestra members can get a £2 discount on up to two tickets for each Youth Orchestra or Wiltshire Youth Jazz Orchestra concerts.

AUDITORIUM SEATING PLAN All 300 seats in our purpose-built concert hall have unrestricted views of the stage.

The auditorium was designed for excellent sound quality.

TICKET RETURNS

We offer a resale service for sold-out events only at an administration fee of £1 per ticket. Return your tickets no later than five hours before the performance. If resold, we can offer you a credit against a future concert.

GIFT VOUCHERS

Give your loved ones the gift of music.

An ideal present for music lovers, Gift Vouchers can be used to buy tickets for any concert at the Centre, to buy a Friends’ Membership or to make a donation. Available in any denomination and with a one year expiry date, they can be redeemed in person at the Box Office or over the phone.
