MOTTISFONT 29 SEPT – 18 NOV 2012

INFORMATION & APPLICATION FORM

(Due to the level of interest in Open Water we have decided to extend the exhibition period beyond the th original planned period by two weeks, to the 18 of November.)

Mottisfont – ‘Open Water’ - Brief The theme of this year’s open exhibition is ‘Open Water’. From the Font, to the Abbey Stream to the River Test, the exhibition is inspired by and aims to celebrate water in all its forms and as a significant aspect of Mottisfont. (‘Open Water’ is not restricted to work directly connected with water at Mottisfont but to any work on the theme of water.) Works can be in any medium. Please note that in order to maximize installation space there is a size restriction on works and no single work should exceed 1 metre (39 inches) in either height, width or depth. Works for ‘Open Water’ will be selected by a panel of specialists. The selectors will be looking for high quality works that clearly reflect the interests of the artist. The selection panel: Tim Craven - Lead Curatorial Officer, Arts and Heritage, Southampton City Council. Kirsty Nutbeen – Exhibitions Officer, Hampshire County Council. David Dixon – Artist and founder of Chapel Arts Studios, Andover.

Please read the following instructions and conditions carefully: Mottisfont cannot accept original artwork for the selection process for our Open exhibition. However, we will accept work for selection by slide, photograph, other print format, CD or DVD. Unfortunately due to file size restrictions we cannot accept submissions by email. Actual work will then be requested for exhibition if selected by the panel: We do appreciate that for some artists a reproduction is not the best way of showing work. However, we would like to reassure those who are concerned that we have a great deal of experience at looking at work in reproduction and will ensure it does not detract from or influence the process of selection.

How to Enter You may submit up to three pieces of work. There is a £5.00 submission fee for each work (up to a maximum of £15.00) We will accept work for selection by slide, photograph or other print format (max A4), CD or DVD. Please do not submit original works prior to selection and ensure you have back-ups of any CDs, etc. Along with the submission of your work, you can include an artist’s statement of no more than 100 words about your work. If your work is selected for exhibition this artist statement will be available to read by visitors to the exhibition.

Conditions: Work must be available for the whole of the exhibition period, i.e. 29th of September 2012 to 18th of November 2012. Sale of Work: The works you submit can be sold during the exhibition. Mottisfont will add 30% commission to your suggested sale price (see application form). Please indicate on the form if work is not available for sale. Insurance: Individual pieces of work are insured while at Mottisfont up to a value of £250 per item. If you require a higher level of cover it will be your responsibility to arrange this. While every care will be taken with material submitted for selection, and selected works, responsibility for loss or damage cannot be accepted.
