In the 1990s, that trend shifted to the solid surface category, which reigned in popularity for the next decade. Today, he says that trend is back in a big way: “We are once again seeing a majority of our clients choose solid surface for their kitchen and bathroom projects.”

Welling believes the increasing popularity comes down to options. “In the '90s, if you had a solid surface countertop, you were limited to standard patterns,” he says. “Today, there are a lot more options, including natural colors that look really sharp.”

Wilsonart recently introduced new Solid Surface designs that look like marble and other natural stones that, according to Welling, are unlike anything he has ever seen. “I have already had a client order one of the designs that were just released,” he says, adding that he’s confident that Solid Surface will continue to be a client favorite.

Brian Smith, owner and director of sales at L.E. Smith Company, says those options are continually increasing. “There is a strong range of colors and patterns to choose from,” he says.
