In First Nation Mi’kmaq spirituality, ‘buoin’ is used to refer both to the universal essence underlying all things, as well as those who channeled and navigated its power. THE PROJECT IS SITED ON THE SPECTRES OF SURFRIDGE ESTATES and Palisades Del Rey, two wealthy beach developments that flourished from the 1930’s until the 1950’s, when the jet engine became widely introduced for commercial flight. Occupying a sliver of the former subdivision, allowing the remaining brownfield land to become an expansive preserve for local plants and animal life endangered by urbanization, including the El Segundo Blue Butterfly.
